Home Islands west. 37 units, 120,220 troops, 892 guns, and 1,384 AFV. The infantry divisions still have most disruption values in the teens and most fatigue values in the 40s. Kochi airfield complex is at 8+97% and will make size 9 tomorrow. Should we attack right away then? I think so. But there was Heavy Rain over Kumamoto today, so the only casualties inflicted were the 318 inflicted by BB Texas
and BB Tennessee. Rain is forecast tomorrow again.

I am convinced that Hatsuharu is actually 10 separate ships, all named the same.

You could also have called this night "The Return of the MTB!". Commencement Bay is retiring to join a very long yard list of carriers needing serious attention. Another amphibious HQ in an AGC is being sent up from Guam in case they need to coordinate unloading of partially prepared divisions at Kumamoto.

Home Islands west. Yesterday 37 units, 120,220 troops, 892 guns, and 1,384 AFV at Kumamoto. 5,844 casualties there from air strikes today, and 152 from the naval bombardment, plus vehicle casualties not tallied. The sum total of this caused the Empire to announce the sinking of Kumamoto base. Today recon shows 37 units, 134,040 troops, 988 guns, and 1,308 AFV. Our infantry is better, with some disruption in the low teens the rest in single digits, and the highest fatigue in the 30s. Kochi is a size 9 base and so there will be significantly more aircraft in the air over Kumamoto tomorrow, weather allowing, which is forecast Rain again. The assault is ordered; all bombardments task forces that were standing by are ordered in; all attack bombers that were waiting are ordered in, all fighter squadrons that were waiting are ordered in, and the torpedo bombers on the CVE are ordered in. We have 2,097 AV. The armor is in good shape to modestly good shape, with some units weak but only one hard up against it.

At sea it was another wild night, but less eventful.

Other night attacks - including air strikes - failed to cause us much harm. Duluth is OK but withdrawing along with other ships that will benefit from attention. The IJN submarine service pressed hard but was rebuffed, with one launching 8 torpedoes at BB Missouri, all missed. During the day our carrier pilots finally were able to bring home a solid raid on would be interlopers.

The action covered Kochi, where the IJN sent several MTB groups to hunt our small tankers bringing in much needed navy black for the ships and av gas for the PT boats. A DE ASW TF and a DD SC TF kept them at bay, although the tankers understandably fled and are being ordered back tonight.

Home Islands west. In the sync bug version of the assault at Kumamoto, a number of additional air strikes flew, mostly B-29 and B-24 groups. They greatly increased the already good performance of the other air strikes and the naval bombardments, resulting in 36 to 1 final AV!!!

In the real turn results those air strikes did not happen and obviously a number of key units of the defense were still viable, resulting in final odds of 2 to 1.
