Another attack tomorrow with all units present. Another two divisions will arrive tomorrow but too late to participate. Today's air strikes by the Empire affected our troops a bit, but our air strikes really drove home the hurt on the Imperial minions. 116 vehicles were reported destroyed, including 50 in one single attack. Of course those were in addition to other types destroyed and all types disabled. Adding that 116 to the above 116 gives a total of 232 vehicles destroyed on the day. I don't know which unit was destroyed but I figure it just might have been a tank unit.

Kumamoto has accepted landing of a base force and a construction regiment. Airfield service damage is down to 30%. Three more base forces, an air HQ, and elements of two infantry divisions are in harbor and will commence amphibious unloading tonight. A 24 strong group of night Hellcats were on the job from Kumamoto's runways overnight and helped break up inbound strikes.

Yesterday Kagoshima reconed with 17 units, 72,180 troops, 346 guns, and 31 AFV. Today Kagoshima shows 17 units, 76,380 troops, 385 guns, and 36 AFV. Our USA 194th Tank Bn rolled into town, blocking rail egress. The 5th USMC division is about two days behind, so the tankers are hunkering down to defend.

Congratulations on destroying that many vehicles and more importantly destroying a unit. Do you think that it would be worth it for Japan to buy any destroyed units back at this stage?

His units are also in a supply deficit. Do you think that Japan is running out of supply or that he shut off the flow of supply so he would not lose any?

Also, not to sound picky:

quote:

Adding that 116 to the above 116 gives a total of 132 () vehicles destroyed on the day.

Also, are you planning on bombarding Kagoshima?

1) Fixed the typo (really 232 vehicles destroyed there on the day).
2) Buy units - I doubt it. He got/is getting the home reinforcements but the problem is filling them out and feeding them , as you point out. Maybe some armoured unit or other he might judge worthwhile.
3) I think Japan is just running out of supply. Everywhere we turn there is a supply deficit. Maybe he has worked the base settings to preserve some for air missions, but it must be a full-on dire situation.

17 BBs!!! Five more than the entire IJN had through the war! If that doesn't make their heads spin, nothing will!

Perhaps those two divisions arriving late to Kurume could be in Reserve (Pursuit) mode? Following his cripples to the next hex would be a coup!

Well, the attack is ordered so will take place next turn, but those two divisions are still in Kumamoto moving to Kurume. They have enough miles accumulated so far that I know they will arrive, but of course I won't be able to give them orders until I get the turn back, after the attack has taken place.

With fortifications still at 3 I don't know if the attack will take the place. So maybe the next attack? But also there are Imperials moving toward Kurume from Nagasaki/Sasebo and I don't know when they will arrive. Maybe those were in strat mode and got cut off, now changing back to move mode? That would be a best case.

Some of the assaults at Kumamoto had more BBs in support but I didn't think to count them up and post it!

These results are much better than last time, with much lower casualties for us and a pretty good batch of disabled squads for the enemy. I'm making the Allied battleships available for at least one omre round of bombardments but I am not certain when the ground troops will have recovered adequate disruption for the next assault. No battleships are close enough to bombard tonight.

We are up to 2,327 AV for the next assault, compared to 2,307 AV yesterday. The heavy casuakties from today's bombardment are encouraging! Tomorrow we'll figure out which unit was destroyed today.

We missed 5 to 1 and siezing the base by only 3 adjusted AV! Tomorrow all units present will attack, minus one armored unit and the division which attacked today as both will recover disruption. Of course there still might be Imperials arriving from Nagasaki/Sasebo that change the equation for tomorrow's attack - we shall see.

Kumamoto has fully repaired, landed more support units and large elements of two divisions. Those parital divisions will provide garrison and defense until other units arrive, and the USA 6th ID now moves on Kurume to join the others. The 5th USMC Div should complete the move to Kagoshima tomorrow. The airfield built to 30% toward size 3. The goal is to get local CAP up quickly so the carriers can leave to replenish for the Tsu invasion.

Yesterday Kagoshima recon showed 17 units, 76,380 troops, 385 guns, and 36 AFV. Today shows 17 units, 74,820 troops, 434 guns, and 39 AFV.

Home Islands east. One more day for the Tsu invaders to transition to combat mode and many attack transports are already on site.

Air losses. We had many dive bombers going after targets that had already left Kurume. Doh!

This is a test of alignment with the Kurume information presented above. The forum makes aligning text in columns a major pain.

You lowered the forts a level at Shanghai, Tientsin and Kurume. Lookin' good for the next round of attacks.

Well that's at the very end, but there's all the AAR to learn

You're very funny, pleasure to read;
Also your deployment and conductin at the begginijng of the campaign is terribly interesting.

BTW, all the consideration for Opponent for holding the struggle.

does he have an AAR too?

How are you pulling this out of Intel Monkey? The last version I looked at didn't give anything like this without having to do a whole load of cut and paste....is there a new version?

Roger

Roger

It's not from Intel Monkey, it's custom but I will be able to paste that code into Intel Monkey for that and similar uses.

One problem is presentation in an AAR, because 1) the forum strips out leading white space, 2) compresses white space within lines, and 3) does not have any proportional spaced fonts. The "code" markup is no good because it only works for small snippets. The .jpg you are looking at is the output text file shown in Notepad, where I took a screen pic. When I tried to post the text itself it was not lining up correctly. The version changed to _ instead of . seems to work, because _ is the same width as X and as numerals.

If you want to try it out let's take this to email.

At the moment (until it's a part of Intel Monkey) you have to take a few steps (but they are easy), including copying the section from the combat report into a file. Look at the attached screen pic. When I did that running list for Kumamoto, each day I would create an input file from that day and update the list of files to include that new file, run the program to create the new output.

EDIT to add: Although I am at the moment just copying the needed section direct from the combat reports, (because I open all the reports in an editor to look at them and write the AAR posts every turn anyway) you can also copy the sections out of Intel Monkey which does allow copying in the display windows.

Yes! Tientsin was hardly even any bother for the attacking troops so they will likely plow through one attack after another nad take the place in a couple of days. At Kurume the only uncertainty is what arrives when from Nagasaki/Sasebo as they try to escape becoming trapped. Shanghai will take more because of needed recovery pauses.

Welcome and thanks! Walter did have an AAR but he didn't have time to keep it up. IIRC it was called "A Southwestern Rumble" and you might find it via search, it started around the same time as mine. BTW from going back and doing spot checks recently I've cleared it for Walter to read up to page 100 of this AAR and this morning he told me he is up to page 65.A lot of Allied pain and frustration in those early pages!

Him reading about your pain, suffering and anguish is probably comforting to him now and maybe keeping his interest in the game.
