Wow, we certainly have had to very different experiences! Erik will probably correct me if I�m wrong but I think he has still to hit something with them.

Most of those other attacks failed (I think one hit something minor), but the Devious One keeps me on my toes!

No ground combat in China, but Imperial forces have attained some new positions. Two units have finished moving cross country to the left south/western end of the defensive line west of Kweiyang. Other units have repositioned within the Chungking plain, and one has moved onto the road WNW of Sian against a large number of Chinese units that are repositioning westward. Three units have made it to the road midway between Chungking and Kweiyang. Basically the Chinese units in each hex of the line have their backs against the wall. A failure in any hex is very bad now.

Our attack in Burma went well, inflicting many more casualties than the final odds alone would indicate.

Most of our units have disruption in the low teens, but the attack will continue tomorrow. two brigades will make it to the plain tomorrow, 1 hex and 2 hexes west of Shwebo. The 2nd British Division is being bombed heavily, both disrupting it and slowing its movement. As more units get onto the plain that will be less effective.

All of the 1st Fiji Commando Bn is on Kusaie Island, except the combat engineers, which will not air drop. An APD TF is leaving Nauru with supply tonight and another will leave tomorrow with the engineers. While before there were many ships in port at Kwajalein, the raid caused the egress of those that survived. 2 x SSX are seen by recon, so the B-24 will visit tomorrow.

The Horn Island invasion is loaded up although they have been spotted. They and their escorts will set off. The Dutch will patrol to the west of the objective while the Commonwealth cruisers and USN destroyers provide close cover. CAP will be courtesy of LBA. We'll see if DAW HQ is planning to strike.

Continuous recon is showing 2 units and more troops at Lunga, 1,240 troops, 8 guns and 0 AFV. There is a chance that one regiment will not be enough, so the prepped tank Bns will load up on LST and head that way in case. Russell Islands airfield is now size 1, and sports Corsairs and P-40K.

Are you going to abandon the Central planes and withdraw towards the mountains? Looking at GJ/Q-balls game even without supply GJ doesn�t seem to be able to clear out the mountains. Might be a better option to withdraw there then die in the open?

If I have to I will. But I'm not going willingly! I figure - hope - that I already have enough in the mountains and such that I won't need more there. So if I hold those three or four cities on the plain as tenaciously as I can that adds to Walter's burden. If he can clear out the plain then things get easier for him.

With my offensive underway in Burma I really do not want to voluntarily free up any of his troops in China. It's likely that he will hold on to the Burma road with the last breath of many Imperial units in Burma. So, I will take advantage by moving to the south and not waste effort there. I'll grab as much of Burma and Thailand as I can before running out of steam. The order of the day is to move before defenses are in place, cutting off and destroying units as possible.

Imperial units that are bottled up in northern Burma and east of the plain (~Lashio) are out of place and can rot until a convenient time to deal with them. So far that looks like at least 5 regiments, plus the units across the border into China. Let them stay out of play while my units concentrate and smash the units in front of them.

That's the current plan.

We'll continue attacking. It looks like most units that made it to Magwe have now fled south via the rail line. There are now 2 units there with 4,100 troops and 15 guns.

The Horn Island assault force is on site and will begin unloading. The 31st Infantry Rgt is embarked on landing craft and should unload all at once. LRCAP protecting the landing intercepted Imperial transports in the air.

The Lunga assault force is four hexes out but they have been spotted and so will go straight in.

Our raiders shot the gap and are now in view of the Eye of Mordor with DL 10/10. They found nothing but at least they have done some advertising.

In Burma the continued ground assault went well from the standpoint of damage to the Imperial formations, but our troops now need to rest and recover disruption. Perhaps the Empire's minions will get away, perhaps we will get yet another chance at them.

Our cruiser TF withdrew from hostile waters without harm and is heading for Madras to refuel. They are all old cruisers with low fuel capacities and so have no additional high-speed runs in their bunkers. Hopefully Imperial carriers will not come calling before they make Madras.

Lunga now shows yet more troops than previous days' scouting. All hail Fog Of War! The lesson, of course, is that I should have simply loaded up all the forces which I had prepared, and held perceived extras at sea. In that case they would have been available immediately.

The rest of the 1st AmphTrac Engr Bn was unwittingly left behind. They will be picked up and moved forward ASAP.

There was some interesting Intel gleaned from contacts during turn resolution. Our submarines made four attacks that revealed the movement of Imperial ships. One, an AS north of the Marshalls (AS Yasukuni Maru seen hit by a torpedo but no damage noted). I presume that one is moving away from the danger area. Another was on a convoy between Ponape and Truk, attacked twice. I presume that Ponape is hastily being reinforced. A third was on an AO between Truk and Rabaul, but much closer to Truk. That one is more interesting. Is fuel needed at Rabaul? For routine operations? For movement of troops? For naval combat operations? The AO could even be meant to serve warships at sea after high-speed operations.

Shortlands, Munda, and Tulagi airfields are shut down. The NZ Fiji Bde and support troops begin loading to seize and set up a base at Rekata Bay. When they are ready, the Battle Fleet will cover the operation. Rekata Bay is undefended and can only be approached from the east/north side, so at least the Imperial subs should be most or all out of position. It is also far enough away from Rabaul that if IJN carriers choose to act they will have little if any LBA help.

In Burma Myitkyina has now been abandoned by the Empire and will be occupied tomorrow. the troops SE of Akyab will rest one more day before attacking. SigInt says a fresh division is headed to Rangoon on board ship (the 9th). I think we had a sync problem because the replay showed that a TF of xAKL came under attack at Akyab, resulting in no hits and the loss of 7 x Betties (which usually means closer to 14). But alas, the battle does not appear in the combat report nor in the day's plane losses. Some little electron junior officer is going to pay for inserting a training report into the official Combat Replay stream I tell you!!

Those IJN oilers are now at or near Kavieng.

In return I-7 and I-176 both found and attacked the CVE force near Rennell Island. Both attacks were repulsed with hits on the subs, but the carriers must now move. One of our Dutch subs hit a PB at Sabang. The best news was the protection afforded to a supply convoy now unloading at Russell Islands.

At least one of the three Imperial units scouted at Port Moresby is now moving east to Dobadura. Tomorrow the 192nd Tank Bn and the 2/11th Armoured Car Rgt will be 1 hex from Corunna Downs, and the 1st Australian Para Bn will drop on Corunna Downs itself.

The attack will continue tomorrow. The first two units have arrived at Magwe, a Bde and a tank Rgt. Another Bde is now on the way to Magwe, another to Mandalay, and the motorized Bde will be diverted to Meiktila (which it is prepped for). Meiktila now scouts as having only 1 unit present. Magwe has 2, Mandalay still has 1, and there is 1 more to the east of Mandalay. Clearly DAW HQ is savvy to avoiding additional forces being stuck away from the vulnerable area to the south.

Tomorrow another Bde and 2 x Div will make it onto the plain. 2nd British Div is about a day away from crossing the river just north of Magwe but is being bombed savagely. Disruption now 88%. Morale is 92%, so apparently they feel sleeping in an extra hour for just one morning will fix everything!

I'm pretty confident that Lunga will be taken in the first attack tomorrow. The 1st AmphTrac Engineer Battalion will not attack. All the 4EB within range will harry the defenders. The 7th Indpt SNLF Coy is no longer at Lunga, so the Empire is definitely flying out troops.

The support forces will move closer in case the attack is a success. The carriers are moving off to support the invasion of Rekata Bay, and possibly Vangunu just after. The fast battleships are on scene as well. Definitely at that point there will be some administrative activity with the fleet, as some CVE and Wasp need to upgrade, there are enough Hellcats available for at least 2 more carrier groups, and several cruisers and destroyers are also due to upgrade.

An APD TF is carrying some combat engineers to Kusaie Island. Another APD TF will deliver a USMC Raider Bn to seize Ontong Java as the Rekata Bay invasion goes in.

The ground attack in Burma went very well and seems like it must achieve a breakthrough tomorrow. I found the 14th Indian Division was set to defend, and I'm not sure if that happened after combat or if I did that by mistake when I was setting a new preparation target. An air bridge for supply from Chittagong to Shwebo is working quite well, with Shwebo up to 2,300 tons of supply. A Japanese units at Bhamo is actually heading SE over the Chinese border and on the road midway between Lashio and Paoshan. I will make no efforts toward opening the road, as mentioned earlier, instead seeking to trap those units and hold them harmless until dealing with them is not a distraction.

Lunga was not captured due to stout fortifications, but our troops achieved 3 to 1 final odds.

Meiktila appears to now be abandoned. The 13th Indian Bde has made Magwe, giving us 2x Inf Bde and 1x Arm Rgt there. Heavy bombing strikes on the defenders will begin tomorrow, but the ground attack will wait. For one thing, the Arm Bde we have there is disrupted by Imperial air attacks to the point of uselessness. 2x CVE have been sighted at Rabaul. 4EB raids from Australia were ordered for Gasmata today but did not fly. They will be left ordered for tomorrow, plus raids (from the south) on Munda and Shortlands. The Battle Fleet and Rekata Bay invasion forces will move to the east of Rekata Bay for invasion the following day. PBY-type aircraft flying near Rabaul continue to take it on the chin, revealing high-quality fighter opposition.

Here is Burma. The track showing is Force R, the CA/CL/DD TF that recently made a foray into IJN convoy lanes. Their mission this time is to be seen and cause either delays in troop transit or the use of additional resources to carry it out.

Fierce air action over Burma. Sweeps on both sides and strikes on troops out on the exposed plain by both sides. We did better, knocking down 18 Zeros while the other losses about evened out between the two sides. The heavy strikes might have done it, or perhaps the two divisions moving downstream across the river to cut off their exit, but the Imperial units at Magwe are now moving out. Our two infantry regiments will attack tomorrow.

Our 4EB hit Gasmata pretty well, but we have no recon going there so the results will be a bit mysterious. Our 4EB also kept Shortlands and Munda closed. Surprisingly, they ran into a few Zeros over Munda. Two troop TF are at Lunga commencing to unload engineers and other support troops.

The two CVE TF of the Battle Fleet have been seen, but no one else. The Fiji Bde will hit the beach at Rekata bay tomorrow. Here is a look at the area.

Air battles over Burma were quite intense, with the Hurricane IIc Trop models of No.30 Sqn RAF at Shwebo smashing their way through Imperial formations of fighters and bombers alike. By the end of the day they had lost 2 Hurricanes against a likely total of about 2 dozen attacking fighters and bombers! Throw in more losses to Allied fighter sweeps and well over thirty Imperial flying machines landed for the last time on Burmese soil.

The situation on the ground in Burma is changing rapidly. One of our regiments has arrived at Mandalay (although prepped for Lashio), and a motorized regiment has arrived at Meiktila, which is undefended. It looks like there are 6 Imperial units at Taung Gyi, which is an objective to block IJA units in northern Burma from timely moving south. Meiktila will be seized tomorrow. The troops at Magwe need to rest. At Mandalay our unit will attack, aided by some bomber support which will be diverted there. Two armored units and an infantry unit have made the plain northwest of Shwebo and are racing to the area of action.

Tomorrow two armored units will roll into Port Hedland into the domain of an unknown enemy unit. They are the ones that came through Corunna Downs after coordinating with the commandos. Another armored unit is about 150mi to the west, with infantry and HQ support another 100mi behind them.

Troops are ashore at undefended Rekata Bay. Lunga airfield is now in business at size 1 as two P-40E squadrons transfer there. Loads of support troops landed there today and more are on the way, so base building should move right along. As soon as the airfield hits size 2 both fighter squadrons will put LRCAP over nearby Tulagi.

Here is a look at Burma. You can see a defensive line being set up in the jungle to the south. We will have to go through/around that, which is part of the reason for punishing those units in front of our advance while cutting off those astride it.

Yes, engage the enemy more closely!! By cracking skulls in the open plains, there may be a notable shortage of LYBs to bedevil you in the jungle to the south and west and at Rangoon. Tallyho, the fox is on the run!

Today was somewhat tough in the air over Burma, though, as 5 x B-17 were lost, 4 to ops causes. The assault on Mandalay will continue tomorrow. Still only one Bde is ready to attack at Magwe. 2nd British Division will arrive tomorrow, and while also highly disrupted (33%), will add enough weight that a general attack will be made. There are 13 units at Taung Gyi, a size 4 airbase. We will invest it when sufficient forces are available. Meanwhile recon will commence. Max stacking at Taung Gyi is 45,000, so it's possible that the Empire will stack forces there for a counter-attack. Our strategy will remain to drive south. By cutting the road and seizing Toungoo, Pegu, Rangoon, and Moulmein if we can get it, Imperial troops in this region will be relegated to getting supply via the interior road and by air lift.

The armour attacks at Port Hedland tomorrow. Only one unit is scouted there on defense, and bombing revealed it as the 15th Ind.Art.Mortar Battalion.

Rekata bay was seized. But continuing a (now) tradition for the USMC Raiders in this game, Ontong Java turns out to be well defended!

The meager remnants of the Bn are being lifted off the beach post haste.

As soon as the carriers are freed from the Rekata Bay operation, three more fighter squadrons will upgrade to Hellcats. Then the Vangunu operation will commence at once. When Vangunu is captured, the division slated for Munda will land there and march to Munda. Coincident with that landing, Torokina will be seized from the air by Australian commandos, after which the forces prepped for Shortlands will land and begin marching. That will be a good point for an operational break, when Wasp and the CVE scheduled for upgrade will retire, as will the various cruisers due for refit & upgrade.

Fierce battles in the air over Burma. Taung Gyi is the major forward air base for the Empire. The B-17, B-25, and Wellingtons will rest a day from their troop strikes and the day after tomorrow will make a concerted strike on Taung Gyi. P-40K squadrons will rest as much as possible (emergency defensive intercepts only) and sweep Taung Gyi in support.

Disaster in the Solomons, as a CVE is destroyed before daylight. The fighter and torpedo bomber squadrons have been bought back and are quoted as arriving in 30 to 180 days.

We have our first look at Truk. Battleships and more in harbor there, but few aircraft and about 15,000 troops. Hmm...

A series of non or lightly escorted strikes on our TF at Akyab was intercepted with good effect. That TF is on its way to Ramree Island, so defending it over Akyab is a bonus. P-38 sweeps and 4EB strikes on Finschhafen, combined with action over Burma, meant that in spite of the losses on board Chenango we did quite well in the air.

There seems to be lots of traffic around Truk, as seen by our subs as it passes during turn resolution (seen in the turn replay but not at turn end). In fact AO Toei Maru was taken down by Drum near Satawal. There is a CV in a TF at Kavieng, and several TFs of unknown composition NE of Kavieng, at Kavieng, at Rabaul, and SE Rabaul.

Our carriers are away from the current sub sightings and are all heading for Noumea as planned.

I don't suppose you can win the race to Prome by coming down the paved road from Magwe in move mode, huh? Lots of IJ air to contend with, I'm sure. His new MLR is shaping up, but if the road is not blocked with substantial forces, you might be able to push the blocking force aside and cut the remanents (cannot be much fight let in those boys) retreating along the coast off and maybe even threaten Rangoon quickly. Opening Rangoon to your naval/air forces would be really nice.

You have him scrambling. Keep the pressure on those LYBs. Nice work in this theater.

@BBfanboy: I don't think so. If he did go after Buka and/or Green Island then, well, that's partly what those moves were for. When I drop forces at Torokina to march on Shortlands and at Vangunu to march on Munda they will be major enough that he should not really be able to simply counter-invade and defeat them. I guess what I mean is that there would/should be sufficient consequences to turn such a concentration of force into an advantage for me.

Russell Islands, Thousand Ships Bay, and Lunga are all building quickly enough. There is good air support on scene and more on the way. So when troops are dropped at Torokina and Vangunu, the southern Solomons will be able to house a large air contingent to support them. I am also planning that enough 4EB can be based at Lunga and Russell Islands to give Rabaul fits in support of the fleet when the fleet is in the Coral Sea to drop off the troops.

@princep01: I'm not sure what he has forming in the jungle on that road to Prome, but we will have major forces moving down there. Sooner than that will be major forces closing on Toungoo via both roads. I don't recall mentioning it, but Prome airfield is size 1 while Toungoo is... uh, at least a 3 IIRC. I want Toungoo for three reasons: deny it to Imperial fighters; base our fighters there; and clear Imperial forces out of the jungle all the way to the clearing that leads to Pegu.

I am sending 2nd British Division and a regiment (forget which one) to Taung Gyi, but more weight of troops and tanks is going south. Cut the supply roads, cut off troops that are currently out of position, grab all the way down to Moulmein as rapidly as possible. The Taung Gyi movement is to shut it down as an Imperial air base and to cut the road.

An issue that I haven't commented on is that after the large air drop on Ramree Island (2x regiments over several days) I have kept all the assigned transports on the job flying supplies into Shwebo. There is really quite an airlift going, supplementing what is being brought in over the monsoon soaked trails in the region. Getting Prome and the road leading to it should make a big difference, even just via Akyab (as Ramree Island has no facilities yet).

But... the priority is to get south before defenses stiffen. Prome and a clear road are back-fill items.

Waiting to see how the air assault (sweeps & strikes) on Taung Gyi turns out.

Only one sweep on Taung Gyi as weather was a problem. 19th Indian Division has made the plain and is prepping for Taung Gyi, so they will move directly through Shwebo to that objective. Recon shows 50 Imperial fighters at Lashio, so the two regiments prepped for that target will press on from Mandalay to shut down Lashio.

Rabaul will be a hard target to shut down.

A big day in the air in general. The Chinese Air Force took to the skies over Chungking in highly maneuverable biplanes, shooting down perhaps half a dozen Imperial bombers and damaging several times as many. All was not way way in the Middle Kingdom, as the Empire made some progress.

The air battles over Burma were the most intense. Allied sweeps of Taung Gyi went in and were bloody on both sides, though better for ours. The 4EB hit Taung Gyi largely after the sweeps, losing just one on the day and dealing some damage. The airfield scouts only 14% damaged, but aircraft present are down to 17 fighters and 18 bombers. The 2EB did not fly, perhaps the "Extreme Overcast" over the target was one factor too many when added to the heavy fighter cover. The 4EB and sweepers will rest tomorrow, while the 2EB and escort fighters will keep orders to strike.

The great mass of Imperial bombers in Burma shifted to the 17th and 23rd Indian Divisions, heading toward the jungle on road SW Magwe. The USA 27 Infantry Division will join them as soon as tomorrow and move with them. There are now seen to be 4 enemy units awaiting them in the jungle just NW Toungoo.

The 255th Armoured Brigade has caught up to the Imperial brigade just SE Magwe, that was pushed out of that city upon its capture. They suffered no air attacks today and will attack tomorrow.

Aerial combat over Finschhafen were also costly, taking a number of P-38 and 3 aces. A look at the air losses on the day is in the following post.

Here you see the Allied advance in Burma. Two divisions moving down the road between Toungoo and Prome. Another division close behind them. East of Mandalay now one - tomorrow two - regiments that will drive toward Lashio. At Magwe a division and a brigade moving across to Taung Gyi. An additional division against Taung Gyi has just made the road to the north and is moving quickly. An armoured unit endeavoring to clear the road below Meiktila, and several armoured units coming behind it. Several base forces are already on the plain, moving down the road to multiple bases. Fighter aircraft are now at Shwebo, Mandalay, and Meiktila. Numerous other units, infantry, armour, and support, are still in the jungle but well on the way.

There were several more Imperial bombers taken in the skies over Chungking. Also the Empire sent sweepers that took some intrepid defenders, but others remain.

In a small measure of pay back for the ground action in China, the IJA 146th Regiment was again battered and retreated. They went to Taung Gyi, probably the 'wrong way' as far as DAW HQ is concerned.

I can not get the 2EB to fly against Taung Gyi, so they will support a ground attack (toward Lashio) next to Mandalay tomorrow. There two regiments will attack to push the Imperials back toward Lashio (outlined yesterday). Also tomorrow the 14th Indian and 9th Australian Divisions will emerge onto the plain just west of Magwe, and will briefly be in-hex with the USA 27th Infantry Division. Farther to the north, 2 hexes west of Shwebo, the 7th and 6th Australian Divisions will emerge onto the plain in two and three days respectively.

Three carrier fighter squadrons upgraded to Hellcats today: Saratoga, Yorktown, and Hornet. With 22 in the pool it will be several more days before another squadron can change over. Wasp is due for upgrade and so will wait until she makes port after the upcoming invasions. Enterprise will likewise wait until making port for (in her case) repairs of 7% major flotation damage.

Finschhafen airfield scouts as 45% damaged now that photographs of the strikes' aftermath have been had.

Our fearless fliers in their fabulous flying machines did bring down some modern Imperial aerial aircraft with mild alliterative success. Oscars then arrived and destroyed some of their fine steeds.

Our P-40K got slaughtered in the sky over Taung Gyi by Tojo defenders. We lost 21 versus 8 Tojo. Compounding matters, the attack east of Mandalay (against one dug-in unit and one battered unit) had to go in with zero air support as the 2EB seem now unwilling to cross the India-Burma frontier.

Inconveniently, the 4EB are largely doing 'catchup maintenance' now that they have been stood down for two days, meaning that most of them are off-line. So, rather than a massed strike on Taung Gyi airfield, all the 4EB squadrons are ordered to hit the troops in the jungle just NW Toungoo, where those troops are poised to oppose our two Indian divisions. Those divisions have been heavily disrupted from the air. The objective, even beyond aiding an eventual attack by disrupting the defenders, is to allow our troops time to recover once they make the jungle. An armored unit is moving to support the divisions for the same reason. The USA 27th Division will need two more days marching to make the Indian divisions' current hex, then will have to march SW to join them in the jungle. I want to make certain that they are not attacked and defeated (due to their heavy disruption) the moment they arrive in the jungle.

Meanwhile, our forces at Katha will attack with whatever air support they can beg!

In the South Pacific, two more base forces are loading on fast transports at Suva bound for Russell Islands. Attack transports are in position to load up all the forces that will go ashore at Torokina and Vangunu, but loading the troops will wait a little longer so the troops are not at sea waiting for the airfields to be ready. That will give us time to upgrade another carrier fighter squadron to Hellcats, so the Enterprise group will convert in three days.

Given the size of the aerial contingent at Rabaul, I am considering sending in the battleships to bombard the base as the fleet approaches. Both the 24 knot battleships and the fast battleships, with an all-in 4EB strike the next morning. Kavieng is size 3 and Gasmata size 2. Finschhafen is size 4 but already pretty much shut down by the first two raids from Australia. And that's it - Shortlands, Munda, and Tulagi are shut down and being kept that way. Rabaul is very dangerous but also very vulnerable being mostly alone.

The 17th and 23rd Indian Divisions have reached the enemy position in the jungle NW of Toungoo, and while their disruption % is a bit reduced it is still dangerously high. The 27th ID has reached the hex behind them and is moving out to catch up as fast as possible. The 150th RAC Regiment (an armoured unit) is closer, a mere 24 miles behind the Indian divisions, and will continue moving at full speed.

There is activity at Ponape, where a TF is sighted today of 10 ships, including multiple AP, xAK, and destroyers. There are now 2 units and almost 7,000 troops there, along with 23 fighters protecting the lot. Is there a quick invasion of Kusaie Island in the works?

It looks as though an advanced unit has been caught out of position in the Outback. Until today there was one unit seen at Daly Waters; today none detected.

The line is barely holding in China, with the forces that were assaulted today trying to pull back to the next line before they break ranks. Pilots at Chungking continue to shoot down the odd Imperial Death Glider, despite the odds against them.

The bulk (or maybe all?) of the Empire's bombing in Burma was focused on the two Indian divisions near Toungoo. Under cover of the jungle canopy their disruption reduced about 20% and is now in the mid-50s. The tanks have rolled into defensive positions, and the USA 27th ID, if not slowed by aerial interdiction, will arrive tomorrow. The 6th and 7th Australian Divisions are both on the plain and making their way to Magwe. They will also move/attack down the Prome/Toungoo road.

The 2nd British Divisions and the 29th British Brigade have both taken up positions at Taung Gyi, and their approach yesterday seemed to be enough to cause evacuation of the airfield. The IV Indian Corps HQ will arrive in a few days (now at Meiktila), and the 19th Indian Division will arrive in about 6 days. Then the assault will commence.

There is an interesting turn at sea in the Bay of Bengal. Long range search out of Calcutta has picked up an IJN force, 6 ships sighted including 1 x CS. Force R is on another 'show the flag' sortie and tonight would approach to within 4 hexes of the enemy's last reported position. The most likely mission for an IJN TF there is to deal with Force R, given Force R's previous activity. So, Force R - detection level 7/7 - will retire to Chittagong and its fighter umbrella, ready to act if the IJN is up to something else entirely.

4EB from Australia hit Finschhafen airfield again, which now shows damage of 78%. Scouting shows far fewer troops at Ponape, so that TF might be loading up. More troops are shown at Lunga - if true, being flown in? Shortlands is showing more. Truk is showing more.

Tomorrow the fighter squadron on Enterprise should be able to upgrade to Hellcats (35 in the pool now). In a couple of days after that we will begin loading up the invasion forces for Torokina/Shortlands. Recapping, Torokina will be seized from the air with forces to assault Shortlands landing at the newly captured base the day after. Just to be safe, as the fleet approaches, Torokina will be reconnoitered from the air to ensure that it is still empty. Even if it is, it will still be bombarded by USS Colorado, deemed too slow to venture farther into hostile territory. If Torokina is strongly garrisoned, plan B is for the Shortlands assault force to land directly at Shortlands. All are 100% prepped, so that is a viable option.

In either case, the preferred mission for the 24 knot and fast battleships is to bombard Rabaul on the eve of an all-out 4EB strike. CA/DD groups will range toward Rabaul to clear out surface opposition. The carriers, and surface groups with adequate ammo after the above mission, will cover the troops disembarking at Torokina. During that process the Vangunu/Munda assault forces will close in. When the carriers are available to provide cover, a prepped regiment will land at Vangunu, followed after capture by the forces prepped for Munda.

Here is a bonus pic. The Imperial unit on the left is the 7th Tank Regiment, now weaker after a series of effective air strikes today. The unit on the right, newly revealed, is also out of position and in a race with two tank units trying to beat them back to Katherine.
