Hey, returning here after a long absence, a few flaws in this game sort of made me loose interest about a year ago.

Now that Legends is released it seems they are adding much more flavor and better AI and diplomacy to the game.

There are some questions I want to ask before I invest 20 dollars in this newest installment.

Mainly about the way AI designs their ships. I had a huge issue with the last game where the AI would not equip 2 fusion cores to give a ship maximum warp speed power, or when they would just generally make terrible ship design decisions. (like not putting lazers on civilian mining stations which also lead to me having to spend about an hour at the start of every game redesigning everything in my inventory). Actually for extra challenge at one point I decided to just let the AI design my ships as well, which turned into a very annoying game of me upgrading a certain line of weapons and the AI insisting on using obsolete nonsense. Has any of this been fixed?

And if not has anyone modded this, i cant see how this would be hard to fix, rather just change some text files for predetermined AI ship building schemes.

I'll ask some more questions when i think of them.

Thanks for the reply's, and I look forward to playing again rather then waiting for the next-next expansion.

Basically,
the AI designs are still stupid and we are still not allowed to mod anything of significance (techs, weapons, designs, just graphics) as far as I have seen.

Its like with the first expansion. More content, still retaining many basic game issues, and still not allowing the community to fix it themselves.

This issue still does exist but Erik said it was going to be focussed on in the second patch. Should make the micromanagement a lot easier then. :)

I'm loving the game and Legends certainly brings a mountain of improvements. Just this aspect is still lacking at this point.

R&D part of AI is glaringly stupid and disconnected from each other. And some minor tweaks to the ship design system is way overdue. Despite that, the game is very fun. Supposedly a major AI design stupidity has been fixed in a recent patch, meaning the AI will try to fit designs under the size limit if remotely close. I have not tested this myself, yet.

As for lack of guns of mining bases, I have no issue with that. Protecting them is part of the game, and pirates are mostly a start entertainment. However, starting pirates can be very mean in the current version.
