Time to take stock and review the overall stategic picture. We currently have 4 colonies to the frog's 2. 2 of our colonies are well developed Zenox worlds, giving us 3 of those. The third is a small starting colony of frogs. Most of the stars within the cluster are controled by our influence and we will need to continue to consolidate and expand that.

Our next logical avenue for expansion is either the small cluster to the west of us, or the larger cluster to the southwest. Both appear to be about as close. The small western closter may allow for undisturbed expansion of no empire resides there but the southwestern cluster is the best long term strategic goal. Should we deal with the frogs first before we worry about expanding further? Or is fast expansion and the land grab more important? Decisions, decisions.

That's it for today. I plan to play some more tomorrrow. Until then, what advice would you give our space going cats? How best for them to proceed? I'm sure I've overlooked some things I shouldn't have. Should we attack the frogs while they are still relatively weak? I'm not sure they'll remain so isolated for long.

By the way, I really liked this particular logo because it looks kind of like a cat head with whiskers. Perfect for our Zenox.

good stuff! Little known cat fact! Cats have sacs near there hindquarters that must be squeezed of fluids by their owners annually lest smelliness ensue!

Great AAR so far! As a cat owner, I am definitely on your side.

I think you will not have a better opportunity to take out the frogs. Pounce on them now.

Regards,

- Erik

That's about what I was thinking. I would like to use carriers and fighters in the assault. I have researched fighters but no carrier design is available. Does that only show up when you get cruisers? Or do I still need to research something else to get that design? Also, about how many Zenox troops would be needed to successfully assault the frog home world? Are frog troops tough?

Once you unlock fighters, you can put them on any ship, but the special Carrier hulls are only available when you research further into both the fighter and construction trees. I would not wait for those unless your research is moving along very quickly. You can use your existing Destroyer class ships as carriers if you equip them with fighters and perhaps a long range missile or two and stand off orders. You can probably get a squadron of eight fighters per destroyer if you use their hull space to turn then into escort carriers rather than gun boats.

Initial troop strength is based on species intelligence and aggressiveness, so compare theirs to yours and you'll have an idea. Homeworlds are very tough to invade, so the main thing I would build (apart from a fleet that can defeat their orbital defenses) is a large number of troop transports and troops. You really can't have too many.

Keep an explorer ship in their system to scout and strike when their defenses are weakest.

Regards,

- Erik

Yes! Another great AAR to follow! Zenox are one of my favourite races alongside with Kiadians and Quamenos.
BTW. The thing that still baffles me is that Zenox are classified as rodents. They are, and always have been, felines to me.
I assume it's gameplay thingy to have Ugnaris and Teekans as their natural friends.

Also, I'm cat person too. My family has always had both cats and dogs, but I like cats a little bit more.

Zenox strike me as House Cats in space. Would be neat to have a Wild Angry Tiger In Space faction though.

Jeez, look at that cat's arm muscles. No wonder he's only wearing a tunic--he'd rip his shirt just reaching for his cell-phone.

Nah, not really. Zenox look a bit too smart to be anything close to meerkats.
TBH, Evretts Master Splinter reference really starts to grow on me. I'm more than fine to think Zenox as rodents now.

The Catnip Cabal Council of Leaders met for many hours, interrupted only by the required naps and grooming breaks to keep things civilized. The topic of debate, the frogs, and what to do about them. Some thought a course of watchful waiting was best. Others thought it best to eliminate the threat early on before it could grow. All agreed however, that the two empires were inevitably on a collision course. Not enough room or resources were available for both. And besides, frogs are slimy, nasty things.

At last, it was agreed that the Cabal would quietly begin to build its forces and new war designes would be deployed, starting with a fighterbase destroyer hull. There was at last general accord (and much purring) among the council.

The investigation site is not outside the range of our ships . We will send a construction ship to claim it, just in case it needs repairs.

In the meantime, our leader has gained the 'Labor Oriented' trait. This increases our empire's income but further reduces our population growth. We need the income right now more that the additional population so this is probably a net positive for the moment.

Our ships have been keeping a close eye on the frog homeworld and they've made a shocking discovery. Rapidly, the news relayed to the homeworld. The frogs have a capital ship and it doesn't look like one of theirs. They must have found it in some galactic backwater somewhere and made it operational. Hisses of dismay, rage and fear fill the council chamber. Our investigation of the lost ship site suddenly takes on added importance. Additionally, it looks like they have a troop buildup underway. The dastards are planning to do to us what we plan to do to them.

Among rumors of coming war, the troubled times have caused a diplomat to emerge. At last, just when we were beginning to think we lacked all manner of diplomacy. We will immediately send him to the frog homeworld and see how he fares.

At last our constructor ship reaches the lost ship site. As an added bonus it is in orbit around a high quality planet fit for immediaste colonization. We make plans to build and send a colony ship right away. This will give us a new outpost and expansion launch point into the nearby star cluster. Our leader kneads his beanbag chair with satisfaction.

It's an abandoned capital ship!! Back home, tails lash with excitement. Whatever may have befallen the original crew, plague, radiation storm, or some other ill fortune, the ship is intact and needs no repair. It is in fact fully operational. Immediately it is recalled to the homeworld to add to the ongoing war buildup.
