Hi

I have played wargames since the 1970:s. I played TOAW for a long time. Now I'm thinking of designing a scenario. First a general question. What should I think about? Second and last a more specific question. Can any one explain how I use ODD4 especially the map making part please?

There's a help file with ODD. Never used it but seems to me it did an excellent job of telling how to use it.

The help file runs off the standard Windows help engine. What kind of problems are you having with it?

I have Vista and I just figured it out that the help engine doesn't work with Vista

What should I think about?

I'm relatively new to TOAW, but I'd think about who the scenario is intended for; novices? experts? I would also think about whether the situation has been covered before and how. If you have a D-Day scenario in mind, what would be the twist that makes it different? Finally, I'd think about what made your TOAW favorite scenarios work and model yours after those. Hope this helps. I'm sure the vets can give you great advice. cheers!

I didn't know that.  Did you have a specific question about using ODD to make a map?

Thanks for trying to help me.

I can import the map (picture)to the program. But how do I get the right scale of the hexes?

A pictured tutorial. I used a map with a 10km grid.

Note that you can use any hex scale, not only these from the TOAW engine. I.e. you could create a 1.6 km grid.

Use "starting x / starting y" to adjust the grid overlay. I.e. you may find that city xy is located in two adjacent hexes, but you want it to be in one hex only. Or adjust the grid for a better shaping of coast lines, river courses etc.

Enter the Grid size exactly as shown in the screenshot (under 8.). You can also click into the field and enter 0025. That field is a bit tricky.

Excellent tutorial Stefan.

Also note that after you draw the grid you can further tweak it by clicking the tools button on the lower toolbar.  It will allow you to stretch the grid vertically or horizontally, or to re-scale the entire grid.
