IMO, P39D isn't a bad plane.  I am in Apr of 42 and I have lost 70 to A2A.  I have between 40 to 50 kills with them.  They fly low CAP for me. With decent pilots they can hold there own.  I have yet to try them on anything but CAP.

you have to love that 37 mm cannon, give it the love it deserves and use as anti shipping platform.. it really needs to have greater range in the pac for this ...

I have seen P39s intercept unescorted betties and do a very fine job.

That begs the question...who let Betties go anywhere without escort? Of course P-39s will tear those to ribbons.

The game needs to model torpedo bombers unescorted for both sides better..
imo
I often see these attacks some how leak through defenses ,.. ? really?
in a side not a barely trained p40 group on naval attack low.. just ran multiple attacks against landing craft.. the long range zero cap was ineffective and suffered worse.. this was in
July 42...

the units where set to close range.. to limit them from attackingthe cv group.. and they avoided the bb in the stack .. this happened four or five times before his tenth wave over  ran what I thought was a stunch set up for Darwin.. it goes to show you no matter how manuverable, the planes are not designed to fight on the ground! oopsi
