this must be either a replenishment convoy or a fuel delivery to Koepang... only the original TK of turn one's replenishment convoy of KB work for this task and I don't know if the tankers above were part of it but if the enemy tries to unload that whole convoy at Koepang then this takes quite a while as Koepang is only a level 3 port...

we have spotted bombers from CV Akagi, Kaga and Soryu... Hiryu was spotted with some CVL/CVE in the Indian Ocean weeks ago and Shokaku is around Timor (surely together with Zuikaku)... obviously bluebook has completely dispersed KB... doubt that air attack was needed and it didn't do anything anyway but it reveals the carriers´ presence in the area... I don't want to have one of my convoys stumble into the carriers or the battleships...

Too bad about losing that Port Services unit - those things are worth more than their weight in gold to the Allies.

I'm amazed at your opponent using most of a Division all the way out there at Tahiti. And the fuel costs of having those BBs and CVs way down there is scary too.

Are you sure that you are not playing Radar under a different name?

yeah, when I sent that USN unit together with the combat eng and cnst rgt to Tahiti I was not planning to lose the base but my opponent had different plans. I wanted to build up Tahiti to act as a fuel hub in SOPAC for convoys moving between Australia and the West Coast but that isn't necessary anymore now anyway.

the daily air attacks of hundreds of IJ bombers continue without any interruption... while air attacks surely don't have the effect of real life attacks, we fly just far too many missions in return... doing this without any losses, it's more dangerous to transfer a squadron or to fly nav search... guess the loss percentage on the Philipines is somewhere near 0.1% for the Japanese...

What have the Japanese Air Ops losses and Flak losses been like recently? I'm surprised at the number of Japanese planes that are being reported damaged in their attacks on the Philippine bases and I would expect that he must be losing a dozen or so each turn.

these "damages" are only FOW, nearly none are damaged despite me having had all base forces with replacements on filling them with flak. The units are all 60+ disrupted as the enemy flies day after day after day and while my ground troops can't recover from this, it's no problem to fly day after day after day. Hence all those discussion going for years already to tone this down, without effect in the end. I bet from three months of daily bombing with hundreds of bombers over the Philipines the enemy has not lost more than one or two dozen bombers with one dozen lost to flak at best. He has always been flying at 11.000ft IIRC.

Leaving those base forces replacement on was a big mistake because now that they have a lot of flak guns, they blast through roughly 700 supplies a day. Not the bombing causes me trouble, it's the AA firing out my supply for no effect. Will never do this again and should have sent out my AA and base forces on suicide missions. Then my supply would last until 43 without any problem and the use of my fleet subs could leave me with supplies for even halve a year longer. But as it is now, AA has eaten up literally all of my supplies. The game being ahead of the AAR I have moved all my flak from Clark to Bataan and while the bombings "caused" the loss of 800 supplies at Clark per day, without the flak there I am now losing 100 supplies a day which is nothing I would really care. But it's too late of course and you can't order your flak not to shoot.

Are his bombers flying from within the Philippines or from Taiwan? If they are flying from outside the Philippines I would still expect his Ops losses to be regular and steady, even if his Flak losses are minimal. Can you post an Air Losses screen sorted by Ops losses? I would be curious to see what shows up in the top 10.

My experience in all of my matches is that flying multiple Bombing missions on a daily basis costs me around a dozen or so Ops losses per day regardless of what side I am playing.

Thanks -

he's flying from the Philipines and started to do this as soon as he had an operational airfield. Flying from Taiwan would of course couse more losses but as he's flying from just two hexes range he takes literally no losses. Will take a screen of the airlosses next turn, will show up in the AAR a couple of turns later.

Chris, you might be interested in learning that the 11th - 13th Indpt Infantry Regiments at Malaybalay are part from a Division starting in China (at least in stock but I don't think this scenario changed that).

hi

thanks for the info, didn't know that. It's something I expected already, China is nearly completely quiet and bluebook goes wild on the map, I expect him to release a div from China whenever he can. Something like 5000av in total are operating against me, including the units that assaulted Singapore and suffered a little, so we are now probably somewhere between 4-5000 av.

Correct. Those three regiments all start at about 110 AV each with 90 experience in northern China (Kweisui, I believe) as part of Mongol Garrison Army.

what I wonder though is why didn't he recombine those regiments into their division again?

Usually japanese division need 3 infantry regiments, artillery regiment and engineer regiment, sometimes also recon regiment. Maybe artillery and engineer units have not arrive yet? Some of the supporting units arrive much later.

Day Time Surface Combat, near Bataan at 77,77, Range 17,000 Yards

Japanese Ships
DD Kawakaze
DD Shiokaze

Allied Ships
AG Gold Star, Shell hits 38, and is sunk

that AG was also moving small amounts of supplies to Bataan but with my AA units using up all the supply there it is just completely senseless... NEVER, I say NEVER put AA units into a base that is sieged... hundreds of IJ bomber sorties cause nearly NO supply loss if there are no AA units but with only those 6 base forces/AA units at Clark I lost something like 800 tons of supplies each day... in return, those units managed to shoot down 3 or 4 bombers out of 3-5000 sorties...

damn, I didn't notice these IJ divs moving towards Chengchow and they shock attack across the river getting a higher adjusted av than their base av which is quite insane considering this is a river crossing... oh well, I only had this unit there not to suffer from the partisan penalty each turn but planned to move it out as soon as the enemy advances towards the base... nearly 5000 Chinese fail to KILL a FULL enemy squad that shock attack across a river...

with 250+ bombers attacking into a thunderstorm hex our counter offensive at Soerabaja fails miserably... damn it, I should just have stayed at Malang waiting in the mountains for the enemy to attack us... of course the enemy is lucky enough to have halve a dozen more of his units popping up and have all his bombers attack us during a thunderstorm... even if the enemy reinforcements were still in strat mode, they were essential as there were not even 200av there yesterday... thumbs up, works great for us again, not really a good turn...

They are independent, "orphan" regiments.

They cannot be recombined into a division.

there you go... with our failed counteroffensive we have reduced our combat power to 50%... not my best moment... needless to say that it's again my opponent who is lucky because we would have needed just ONE more day to move out to prevent total disaster... so he flew 250+ bombers into a thunderstorm hex, coming from bases all over the place and not nearby and he was able to rail in reinforcements exactly the day he needed to to prevent being kicked out... then we are kicked out right the day before we move out... it's either paranoia or bad luck, or a combination of both...

that's today's good news, the enemy admits that CVE Taiyo was sunk after getting back to Kendari... means the first enemy "carrier" is claimed by DUTCH light cruisers which attacked the cruiser with gunfire at Koepang!

CVE Taiyo is reported to have been sunk near Kendari on Jan 06, 1942

I wonder what HRs you have in that game?

going from memory

no Allied 4E on nav attack below 10000ft except Navy types
cease fire in China until Feb 42
no Allied strat bombing of Japanese occupied Allied territory
restricted units not being allowed to move across borders without paying pp
keeping the R&D somewhat realistic (realistic R&D turned off though), with advanced types not arriving earlier than 3 or 4 months

I see.
So no bombing of Magwe...

What is the effect of realistic R&D off anyways?
