Yup. That would be the airline I was targeting that went bust (forget their name now). I was stating to clog his routes from Turkey went he went kaput. I also bought about 50 planes.

A late comer to world O2, just aiming just for some experience

March 1973
New airline "Meus" starts operation in Recife, Brazil. The big question is, is the name pronounced "Me-us", or just the way a cat talks?

A "free" Lockheed L118A starts the fleet off. To build some size, a CL44 is leased used. Operations start in Brazil and Argentina. Startup costs are huge, but the profits will come, if the big 3 Brazilian airlines can be avoided (biggest is worth $1.7BN).

To enter the jet age, 4 Comet 4C planes are leased used. The choice of plane is based upon:
1 - range
2 - availability of 4 planes as a set
3 - low price
4 - looks
Technically, the first 3 reasons above were actually irrelevant. The Comets head out over the ocean to Africa and the Canaries.

April 1973
A slight issue has arisen. As pointed out by new alliance partner 2ndACR \ Air France, the Comets cost a fortune to run. This however is the minor issue. A big issue has arisen. With just one CL44 and one L188, the cost of maintaining these planes is $2m/month. [note that maintenance cost is huge for a first plane, cheap for subsequent planes]. Even after forcing employees to supply their own toilet paper losses remain $250k/month. Savings of -$600k don't really help either.

After watching a TV advert from Ocean Finance, Meus borrow their way out of debt. Problem solved. Except with $5m from a bond sale, Meus just have to go shopping. Two CL44 and 2 L188 arrive, still painted in their former colours. In flight entertainment is expanded to allow a children's painting kit, comprising a large roller, an openable window and a long bungee cord. Revenue doubles, but costs are up as well.

Will Meus purr loudly, or is founding an airline this late in the game just barking?

Maybe you should issue some bonds to pay for expenses and increase planes until you earn consistent profits.

He's new..He probably burned thru the bonds the banks let him use..Bankers are smart in this game. Unlike real life. I have a fleet of over 1000 planes, make over 200 mil a month and the damn banks will only float me eight 5 mil bonds. Thats it. A measly 40 mil. At 11% interest. I spend 1000 times that on buying tu-114's last month.

Nah, he is in a rough area. Add to that the start up blues of going in the red every 16th and 2nd of the month that takes 2-3 days to dig out of. He is not going to get on any juicy routes without a fight.

But yeah, bankers are funny in this game.......I only make 168 mil a day, can only take out the 40 mil in bonds and that would not even touch my 1.3 bil a month payroll, my 104 mil a month lease payments, my 100 mil a month maint payments.......IT WOULD pay my gate rental fees for 1 month though. Just barely.

Buffalo will soon over take me in the rankings because I have not been expanding much. I have mainly been upgrading my fleet and buying out the leases of the a/c that will see me thru the void until 1981.

Seems a major player went belly up. ALOT of used AC on the marked now. Too bad I only managed to pick up 25 CL44s (of 134!!) before they were gone.

Yep, saw them.....I am having a hard enough time placing what I get delivered from the factory. I am just trying to survive and hold what I got until the 80's......and then the mass upgrade begins again. Only this time with 767, 757 and 737.

Complaints, all I hear are complaints

The Meus chairman reclined in his new leather executive chair. Gone were the days of living hand to mouth, gone were days of sitting on cheap, nasty plastic stools. The chairman's beloved cat, Keith, sat on his lap, meowing softly as the chairman stroked his fur.

Keith knew better to sleep, for when he slept, he purred. Purring was simply not acceptable to a company called Meus, and Keith knew it. Three previous trips to the feline re-education centre had taught Keith well. Keith waited, laying still, for the inevitable shove. When it came it was gentle and highly evolved reflexes saw Keith land neatly on the carpet.

The chairman leant forward, studying his PC screen. The pictures were fuzzy, but the text in the Ebay ad was clear. "Do you love the Tupolev Tu-114? If so, lease this plane NOW!". The chairman had leased the plane, along with 11 more of this type. Somehow though, only this one particular plane was causing an avalanche of complaints. Maintenance crews complained parts did not fit; they obviously wanted wages closer to the industry average. Customers complained about the interior being cramped, which the chairman would soon fix. Come Refit Day, he would demonstrate his interior design skills and make everything wonderful.

Keith circled quietly, unnoticed. He was no panther or tiger, but he knew the leather was always thinnest at the rear. Stretching up, claws extended, he began to redesign the executive chair.

The chairman finally smiled. Signing a $2.4m cheque had not helped his mood this morning, but as he gazed upon a line of 12 airliner noses, all surrounded by the sound of change, he could not help but smile just a little. The chairman turned and walked along the side of the nearest plane. The paint scheme was a little child-ish, but even this could not take away from the sight. Perhaps 12 Comets would be better, but this was enough. The chairman looked up at the tail high above him, and along the line of 11 tailplanes.

Eleven?

Years of watching Sesame Street now kicked in, as the Chairman's mathematical skills were stretched.

Definitely 11.

The chairman hurried along the line, counting with his fingers as he went. He knew he would have to remove his shoes and socks in public, but he no longer cared. Finally he stopped, in front of a mound of new and unused seats and TVs. Looking to the left, his heart sank. This plane did at least have a tail, but the short fuselage had meant it was hidden from sight. Not only was the fuselage short, everything else was small too.

Later...

Keith hid silently in the darkest corner of the room. He could see the chairman shaking almost uncontrollably whilst signing a cheque for $6.2m. The leasing company agent snatched the cheque and walked away, himself trying not the smile as the TU-104 went back to its owners. As the chairman sat in silence, Keith's gaze wandered lower, to the plastic stool on which the chairman sat. Involuntarily, Keith began to purr.

Someone grabbed the wrong plane.......been there done that.......you would have been better off buying the plane and then selling it. It costs less than early termination penalty. You get most of your money right back.

I hope you are signing 10 year leases to get the better lease price. Plus unless you really have to, try to lease only under 5 years. Those maint costs start getting pricey. Sometimes double at the 6-7 year mark.

Best thing to do when using the used market, when clicking the drop down menu, click on the exact a/c you want.......that way only those planes will show on the list. Helps to avoid the boo-boo's.

And when are you going to replace those fuel hog Comet's? There are a ton of a/c better than that puppy.

Tell me what range you are using those hogs at or give me the route they are on and I will find you a better a/c to use. Just need the airport codes......CDG-AYT etc. I can look them up.

Those puppies are burning 33,000 fuel for a small pax load.

I must have had a horshoe up my but today. First, at the crack of dawn this morning I saw HUNDREDS (probably 700-800) of prop planes hit the used plane market.

There were CL-44s, Bristol Brittanias, IL-18ds, and TU-114s.

I lost track of how many I bought; probably over 60 in total. I managed to get all the CL44s and Brittainnias placed before I had to leave for work. The TU-114s have to wait until I was home again.

Then, this afternoon while taking my lunch at work, using my trusty I-Phone, I popped into the used plane bin and lo and behold, what did I see:

Eight 747-200B's.

I quickly manuevered my fingers across the too small screen and bought them in one fell swoop. I managed to place them all before lunch was over. Not necessarily the best routes, but I did place them. Between the first round of purchases in the morning and the 747s, I purchased around $2.5 billion in planes. It did put a serious dent into my cash reserves. I could not afford to have those 747s idling (with the crews drawing a paycheck all the while).

I got a HUGE lift in my DoP. I also jumped me about 7-8 places in the overall standings.

Mission for now: Find routes for the remaining TU-114s and other planes (about 45 in total) that I have sitting around waiting for assignments.
Then, sit back for a month or two in gametime and just tweak my routes. I need to build my cash reserves back up before I can jump into another big buying binge of planes. Only exception would be if some additional 747s drop out of the sky like they did earlier today.

My entertainment is free. For food, my snacks are free.
I believe it still has an advantage in luring customers when ticket prices are equal vs the competition.

And on another note, Buffalo Air is the proud owner of 5, yes 5 concordes...when they finally decide to release them to their rightful owner

I had to grab a Tu144s just so I could be the flag owner. LOL

I plan to sell it the moment it arrives. Fuel hog to the max.

Air France is now going thru a seating reconstruction phase to enhance the paying passengers flight comfort. Massive reductions in number of seats available on flights.

First test route was a 737-200adv placed on a route that had 2 L188 doing 4 trips a day on a contested route. Ticket price economy was 125ish prior......737 doing 2 a day and ticket price now 425 with a full pax load. Daily profit went form 40,000 per day up to 140,000 per day. 737 still has 51 hours left on her. Daily pax load is 238Y pax with over 450 seats available between the 2 airlines. I am carrying 230Y pax a day. I must say it was a success.

Current L1011 seating 6F 30C 330Y.......new config......6F 24C 250Y

We shall see if this config allows me to keep my pax on battle routes with higher prices.

Okay, L1011 test hurt some.

Flying above pre config on contested route......235,000 per day........new config.......191,000 per day

Leg room rating old config........mid yellow........new config.........high green

I think I can afford to provide my fleeced customer base with better flying experience, so will continue with conversions.

EXCUSE ME!
You have bought planes that make a MEUS Comet look fuel efficient. Especially now the Comets are up for lease again, having been replaced in service by Britannias. Did you know the Britannia was going to be the best airliner in the world in 1950? Date now: 1973.

MEUS and I think one other airline have nearly cleared the used market of Boeing 707s. This has happened to such an extent that MEUS have even leased NEW 707s.

I just had to be the first to get one........it will never fly on any of my routes. Just wanted to see my name in that slot. LOL

But also remember that I make 170 mil a day so can also AFFORD a fuel hog if I wanted one. Heck, I got 4 routes in the massive red just to make the other airlines mad and leave the route.

I was wondering who bought all the 707's that were there. LOL I have been destroying them rather than selling them to the used market. LOL

What are you up to per day profit now?

Need some tips.� This is in R1 world.� We now have 900 Yukons in the pool and it's now 1982.� Still worth picking them up?

Anway, in the O3 world, Full of Air grabbed some 30+ old Yukons and set up flights from Manila and Jakarta to any big airpot within 4000 miles.

It might be worth grabbing a few young ones for contested routes or long routes with fairly low pax numbers.

But jets are getting much more fuel worthy around this year. Plus the smaller jets have really good range values.

Getting long in the tooth on age there.

On R5, I think they may be trying to close a small loophole they got clobbered with in the last year of R5. Some small airline toasted all the big boys because he had 50 billion cash so he gave all his employees a 9999 per hour pay scale. That basically wiped out all the big boys with open employee revolts and 40% turnover every month.

Plus they are talking about backing the start date to 1990 for R5. So stand by and be ready to rock.

I just bought 39 of them......World wont let me get more till my credit rating goes up..... I'm going to try for a cl44-only fleet ...no matter the age......hehehe
