29 Nov 1943 I sent in another surface detachment to Boela. However this time the opposition was a bit stiffer. Two battleships no less, accompanied by the dreaded Boise. One Japanese DD was sunk in return for little damage caused, and I feel I was lucky to not get annihilated. The ships which escaped should be OK though the two damaged ones will need a repair yard. In the day phase the attack out of Ternate got quite badly mauled by his newly installed CAP at Boela. However we did deliver fish into a transport and CL Columbia. I also lost two subs in the Banda Sea today (not shown). His destroyer ASW is getting horrible now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Time Surface Combat, near Boela at 80,110, Range 1,000 Yards Japanese Ships CL Nagara CL Natori, Shell hits 20, on fire DD Hatakaze, Shell hits 5, on fire DD Oite DD Hayate DD Yunagi, Shell hits 10, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk Allied Ships BB Massachusetts, Shell hits 2 BB Alabama, Shell hits 8 CL Boise CL Cleveland DD Hazelwood DD Hutchins DD Jenkins, Shell hits 1 DD Pringle DD Renshaw DD Ringgold DD Saufley DD Stanly, Shell hits 1 Reduced sighting due to 7% moonlight Maximum visibility in Overcast Conditions and 7% moonlight: 1,000 yards Range closes to 23,000 yards...
