Ok. So no advantage, but it's an obvious disadvantage, so why do that?

You have plenty of escorts left after virtually no naval action all game. Seems odd to not use them.

25 July 1944

Tojos go nearly 1 for 1 against P-47s over Hong Kong today. The Thunderbolts are flying from Liuchow, which is quite a trek. I can only presume the pilots are tired.

Another successful artillery bombardment too. I am almost beginning to imagine that I might prevent the Brits from reclaiming their former colony.

Piccie.

I have landed an INA unit at Kwangchowan. It's feeble and could not even overcome the base force and anti-tank unit which is all that is there. A Japanese commander has been installed, and after a few days rest they will try again.

A much larger and more competent Amphibious brigade will land at Pakhoi next turn.

I will keep my options open about landing again on the Indochina rail line.

As long as he cannot defeat the 500 Franks at Kiungshan I will be able to continue to mess with his flank and supply line like this. It's great

Kiungshan itself.

The actual flak at the base is 80 x 88mm guns.

Hong Kong.

As the 75mm arty here is being so successful I am going to ship in some 15cm Guns from Karenko, which is slightly over-stacked.

These ships make moving heavy stuff around quickly a breeze. I have 32 of them now, with another 16 in the pipeline.

Back in the Home Islands things are busy as always.

The two amphibious TFs embarking at Kumamoto and Kurume are part of an opportunistic thing which I have just conceived. If it comes off it will be major. It should unfold over the next couple of weeks.

The Carolines and Marianas.

He has recently been flying recon over Babeldoab, Yap & Ulithi. Perhaps he will come for them soon?

Saipan and Guam are now both size 9 forts. Tinian is at 8 and Rota at 7. Babeldoab, Peliliu, Yap & Ulithi are all at size 6.

It'a real mix. All bases have CD guns, tanks and arty but I can't remember more without looking. I haven't sent any units to this area for a long time now.

You have any IDs in place? If not I would consider sending a solid ID per Island to get the most out of those forts.

I don�t want to get you depressed but I did a lot of testing with the Japanese Tank divisions. 2 US Tank battalions or a single US ID (44 squads) is enough to completely wreck a Japanese tank division in x2 terrain in a matter of days. But I guess having level 9 forts will give them a fair amount of staying power!

I only ever intended the Marianas to be a speed bump. To be honest I am surprised to still have them in my possession at this point.

You may be right. I am pleased with the bombardment results however they are achieved.

My cunning and evil opportunistic plan just got a lot more evil and cunning. I had forgotten how much spare unrestricted stuff I have lying around the place. Most of these units are allocated to Operation Bouvet, but as this is at least a year off they can go kick butt somewhere else in the meantime.

That is a pretty impressive line in the sand.

Actually glad you point me there, I missed that post. Wow. Looks like you may have him stymied there for a good while. If he hasn't been bombing and bombarding your troops to get disruption up this wil be the result for a few more attacks I'd think. Nicely done!

I can imagine it's getting tense seeing how the plan will actually work when challenged. So far so good though.

The bulk of his losses are most likely among the hordes of Chinese. Not to mention the smaller BDEs. If I were him I would have left the BDEs out of it as they always take tremendous losses in big battles.

So it might look worse then it is. The troops that will decide the battle are the Indian/Brit/OZ/US divisions and the armor. If you are unlucky they will be quite intact! I guess you will know in a week or two depending on an attack or not!

The destroyed engineers will have hurt him though!

The stack contains 3 Chinese corps, all the rest is Commonwealth.

I am sending some small but high quality naval reinforcements to Hong Kong in order to delay the agony longer.

The Chinese don't do well against forts. In mine 18k AV against 2k AV still didn't get a positive modifier against +2 territory and 6 forts.

My thoughts on the Battle of Hong Kong is that the small Commonwealth units took a real beating in addition to Chinese units. However, I'd wager that most of the destroyed squads are probably Chinese and not Commonwealth because most likely the Chinese started with a higher percentage of disabled squads going into the battle. But if the Commonwealth units went into the battle already beaten up then the destroyed squads may be worse for them.

However, sending reinforcements right now to Hong Kong is probably not the way to go. You have enough there already to really make him bleed and in my opinion, enough to make him bypass it. Unless he decides to take out Taiwan you should be able to get reinforcements and supply there without too much trouble so there really isn't an urgency to get units there right now. And I just have a feeling after this he's going to step back and continue his advance east rather than trying to take out Hong Kong any time soon.

No he needs Hong Kong and its 50,000 ton Repair Shipyard. Otherwise damaged CVs and BBs have to go back to Singapore for repair. In addition he has not bypassed anywhere so far. Every base gets hoovered up, even the empty and worthless ones.

Liuchow is still his forward airbase in China. I have been trying to bomb it at night with Nells from Formosa, and this turn they finally took off. Quite good results IMO.

It would also seem that he may not in be fact pushing to the east. A westward arrow has sprouted from his troops at Kanhsien.
