Hi all,

quick question that probably has been answered many times but my brain is, like the future, not what it used to be...

The manual says that LCU can disband in special bases (Delhi, SF etc) or at base with 100k supplies. I think I remember that LCUs scheduled for withdrawal can not be disbanded, fair enough. However, I have the FMSV Bde in a decimated state and want to dump it's Malayan sqds to the pool to help rebuild one of the other Bde's using those. It's permanently attached to III Indian Corps and has no withdrawal date. I've tried in Calcutta (150k supplies), Karachi (don't remember supply level) and Delhi (40k supplies). None of these worked, in any formation etc. Is there a typo in the manual that I could do it in Delhi if it has 100k supplies? Playing under the latest patch but one I think.

Any ideas what I do wrong?

PS. Apologies for posting this extremely mundane question in the midst of the intense discussions on CAP etc coming out the fantastically titanic GJ/Rader match...

Cheers,
Mattias

I don't know, but given what you have tried I'm wondering if the correct base for that unit might be Singapore? If true, knowing that answer is little help, eh?!

Thanks witpqs, and well ... if that's the case I'll have to hold off disbanding it for ... a couple of years.

In the manual the following are listed as "key bases":

"Delhi, Auckland, Sydney, Vladivostok, San Francisco, Osaka or Tokyo" (pp 184, "Disband Unit")

Singapore is not on the list apparently. Tried Delhi with 140k supplies, didn't help.

Oh well, slightly annoying and I guess I will have to try and win this without those 31 Malayan Sqds. Can't be bothered to ship it to SF to try. But it's always irritating to know that I've done something before, not remembering if it was WITP or AE, and not remember how I did it...

The problem is not likely the base. Delhi should work just fine. Is there perhaps a fragment of the LCU somewhere else on the map?

Or is it white restricted or due to withdraw? You can't disband it then.

I guess "white restricted" is one of those technical terms one would be expected to know after so many years

Seriously, thanks - that's exactly what it is and again this day was not wasted as I learned something! If not something new then at least something I had already forgotten at least once...

Cheers,
M

PS. I knew about LCUs with withdrawal dates (oh, the number of times I've drooled over all the stuff that those restricted Divs on the WC could add to my pools just as a smaaall Christmas gift in '41) but not the thing about "permanently non-restricted" (for want of better term) units.

Similar question but concerning Japanese LCUs...

I noticed that the "disband" button becomes available if the unit is in a non-base hex.
1. Is it WAD? Has something been changed in between patches?

2. What happens with the devices of a disbanded unit?
It seems that after I disband unit there's no change in HI/Armament point nor in ready squads numbers. Soo... where the devices go? Will they appear in the future "free" of charge?

3. What do you think, shouldn't there be an opportunity to disband parts of the unit if the unit has been split?
Playing a full scenario in '45 I have many units divided between small far away islands...
Because of that if I left a motorized support which cannot be evac by air the unit evacuated won't fill it's full TOE and reorganise...

There maybe a bug in where units can disband. A change was added to allow units to disband in small scenarios, but if no home base is specified in editor for full map scenario (which there usually isn't) it is probably seeing NO base in hex as matching the NO home base.

Will check and fix if so.

Disbanding fragments will add the devices to the pool. Non-fragments get broken down to 'components' and added to MP/ARM/VEH/etc pools for Japanese, or to pools for Allies ( and Japan for scenario with no production).

Michael, thank you for the explanation.

Should the increase in MP/ARM/VEH points be instantly visible?
I think it is, but only when the disbanded units are in "proper place".

Id est. if I disband a unit in Tokyo, I see MP/ARM/VEH points change but if I disband a unit in open terrain, the devices disappear and there's no increase in MP/ARM/VEH points.

[EDIT] I mean it's even logical and probably it should be like that.
[EDIT] As it is now, LCUs in a non base hex can be disbanded, fragments cannot. Shouldn't it be the other way?
[EDIT] From simple "aesthetic" POV I think the "leftovers" should be able to disband no matter the location and even at a cost of loosing the devices/points [you can disband a part of an air squadron right?].
Plus it makes rebuilding of a full TOE possible.

I know, it's probably a matter of compromise again.
And a more general decision.
Sooo... why allow it in smaller scenarios where the industry has no influence and prohibit it in bigger ones?
