IIRC you can replace patrol type units with them once they are in production if PDU is on.

And you should get at least 1 group of them in the reinforcement schedule, these aircraft were flown from the IJA carrier Akitsu Maru.

Other than the cool factor of having an autogyro ; is this plane useful for anything?

Haven't seen much given the pathetic 2-hex range and the 60kg bombload. I'm wasting engine production on this?

Give me a USN blimp any day.

Lets see. Not only do I need to tie up a AC factory but an engine factory to produce an enginge that one ONE plane in the entire Japanese AF can use . Japan does NOT have the production capacity to squander on this type of stuff. If you need to spot use Jakes (or anything else for that matter). This way at least you are producing engines that can be used for mutiple aircraft.

And they are entirely useless as far as i am concerned. Even Japan produced only 240 of them in the entire war.

The only one engine for a specialized plane type is what caused me issues with the Helen as they use an engine that no other plane uses. I had a real tough time as Japan deciding to produce them due to that. The main reason I decided to do so is a) they are pretty good bombers when Japan starts getting them and b) the L version is also a pretty good transport plane. Japan produced 819 of all types so obviously a much better choice than the Ka-1. Especially since there are tons of other planes that can do what it does for a lot less resources. As it costs 36 HI to produce a Ka-1 and the same amount to produce a Jake, I'll take the Jake anytime

One of the Devs confirmed, that Ka-1 is used only in ONE unit.

It was used purely as land artillery observer. The model we see in-game is late-war conversion, but surely it should NOT be produced, but show up as replacements.

But when you think of it, it is ARMY PATROL plane - the only of a kind! And Carrier-Capable. You can not put EMILY on CV, but you can put THIS PATROL PLANE! Think of possibilities!
(OK, I also can not find any use for it, which other planes could not do better)

Maybe, if depth charges can be modded into plane use, it would have some local ASW role. KATE would be better in this role, but Ka-1 is ARMY plane, so at least some exchange of pilots.

1st IF Chutai upgrades to the Ka-1 and is flying the Stella. Tracker tells me it will not upgrade to anything else but the Ka-1 so if you want to keep using the unit once the initial 12 Stella have been destroyed then you have to research one or the other. I picked the Ka-1, it's novel.

Ps Both are bloody useless.

Because if they left it out someone would have complained that the Japanese produced 240 of them and there was a CV that used them so why did you leave them out.

Just check out some of the threads that discuss the order of battle and equipment currently in the game and see what people are arking about why this or that is not in the game since regiment/squadron/batalion/etc. had xyz at such and such a date.

Becasuse historically they were part of WW2. Many Japanese late war aircraft were cheap to build brought about by the limit resources available to them. We know and I dare say they knew that the aircraft were useless but they had very little chioce. Hind site is a wonderful thing. As far as the Ka-1 goes it is a very good idea, can you imagine a world without helicopters.

Yeah, but I'm not sure "Ride of the Valkyries" work for a blimp. Blimps are not as menacing looking, plus "Ride" is too fast-paced for a 30mph blimp. I nominate "Dance of the Hours" - this is the one the hippos dance to in Fantasia. Seems appropriate.
