Well he refuses to divulge any information about himself in the "Meet the Forumites" thread. I feel that it is my public duty to inform the rest of the forum about the mystery man himself. Mind you, I have no concrete knowledge of the man as that would involve serious research at the University of Google. However by rereading all of his posts and posts that many others have made about him I have been able to "take measure" of the man and feel confident that I can present him to the rest of the forum as he really is.

Name: Canoe Dan Rebel. This is actually his name as it shows up on his birth records.
Age: Old enough to be solicited by AARP on a regular basis.
Job: Full colonel, 24th Georgia, Wofford's brigade, McLaw's division, Longstreet's corps, Army of Northern Virginia. (just humor him and play along with this...)
Residence:If we have to tell you, you really don't need to know.
Family: Dunno, wife maybe, GF, perhaps some kids, do we really care? Probably just an old bloodhound.
Education:North Georgia Dental and Phrenology institute.
Work:Some sort of magazine that only retired Civil War veterans and North Georgia hillbillys read. http://www.georgiahistory.ws/
Favorite Quote: "If nobody replies to this, I will be most embarrassed." (Seriously, the guy says this about a thousand times every day.)
Reading:"The writings and affirmations of Stuart Smalley." Abridged version.

Well being he is from North Georgia ... it is also understandable why he works in the dental field, having only three teeth remaining after the childhood consumption of Moon Pies and RC Cola.

I was going to add a comment about his familial relations but thought the better of it

I was also led to believe he has a full size statue of JEB Stuart (and his horse) in his back yard. Also, he is quite distinguished phrenologist. Also also, didn't he receive a field promotion from Longstreet after the mysterious and never resolved death of General Wolford and is now in command of Rebel's brigade (former Wolford's brigade)?

BBW you have it all wrong the statue is of Lee, Jackson and Stuart.  It resides in front of the house.  Behind the house and the tool shed resides the still.

What, no horses? I was lied to

Also, good catch on the still, man makes his own version of Southern Comfort. Janis Joplin tried it once.On October 4, 1970.

No horse, folks from North Georgia, were (are) too poor to own either horses or slaves. Perhaps an old mule..

I assure you that when Canoerebel led his regiment into the Peach Orchard at Gettysburg, he was on foot..probably wearing boots that he took off a dead Yankee.

Being from North Georgia...they're probably picture books.

..well I did say ILLUSTRATED!

As to those boots, I'd wager they are of two different sizes...

He may not be able to reply to this thread until Monday as I understand he has weekend duty up on the Tennessee border near Chattanooga. He needs to keep those damn Northerns from Tennessee out of the South.

You shouldn't talk about the family tree that way.

What the heck is this?  I've been minding my own business today, implementing plans to destroy not just one but two Japanese empires, and I am victimized by character assassination.

I should have expected something like this from crsutton.  I think it was Harper Lee who wrote, "Maryland is full of real estate agents, politicians, terrapins, beaurocrats and other people of no background."

As for Miller, I'm pretty sure he is presently wearing a sweat-stained undershirt and thrice-worn boxers, with a lukewarm can of PBR on a coaster by his computer.

Other than, I am momentarily at a loss for words.....

C'mon, Dan's not from proper Tidewater stock like the Cribtops, but he's pretty refined for a Backwoodsman! I'm sure he has both "His" and "Hers" outhouses next to the still and the primer only, three wheeled Pontiac. Plus I know for a fact his copy of "See Billy Yank Run" has a few small words in it.

PS - my Dad went to Wofford College, so if Dan fragged that fine Officer I have to challenge him to a duel or something. Maybe AE BB of choice at 10,000 yards.

Wofford is one of my favorite Confederate generals for a couple of reasons:

1.  He lived in Cassville, which is just 20 miles east of where I'm sitting.  (He's buried in a country hilltop cemetery, for those of you traveling I-75 who enjoy visiting places like that.)

2.  Wofford opposed secession and was politically active before the Civil War.  Like many anti-secessionists, he remained loyal to his state once it withdrew from the Union.

3.  Wofford's regiment was part of Hood's Brigade at Antietam.  If memory serves, the brigade consisted of Texas regiments, an Arkansas regiment, and the 18th Georgia Regiment.  When Hood moved up in the chain of command, Wofford commanded the brigade.  Later, he commanded a Georgia brigade.

4.  Wofford surrendered the last major Confederate force in Georgia - at Kingston, which is about twelve miles east of where I sit, sometime in late April or May of 1865.  I think Wofford spent the last months of the war rounding up willing Confederate troops to patrol the area and drive off outlaws and the like.

I knew you would get a kick out of Wofford. My great great great....insert more greats if needed uncle, fought in the 24th Ga and was captured at Gettysburg. When the high tide receeded during the 2nd day's fighting, he apparently was left flopping on the beach and spent 22 months at Point Lookout.

I regularly organize barbeuces at public barbeuce places. I tell everyone what to bring, but don't bring anything myself just eating the others' meat and drinking their beer.
When they ask why, I always tell them: "I don't want to show off!"
