Just got back from seeing New Order at the Brixton Academy - quality evening Highlight of the concert was the final song - it never occured to me (although I don't know why) they would play Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart. Top. Drawer. Song

Anyway, enough of that, I'm off to Monaco aboard my motor yacht - the Saucy Sue - with Pope Gregory the IX and the Balinese goddess of plenty.

Because that's how Wyomingians spend their time - worrying sheep and riding bikes (allegedly)

There you go! You have proved me right (yet again). You bring up your ridiculous form of football, that the world ignores, in order to start a debate on your real love Association Football.

Pop Quiz (no googling): Which team has spent the longest no. of seasons c.70 in the top division of English Football, but never won the championship? Interesting question I think you will all agree?

Now see, here's where I have a problem. Really?

Not all think it's ridiculous, W1. I have tried to learn a bit about soccer and be civil about it. Why the trash talk?

Warspite1

Why?

Two reasons:

a) Firstly, its just banter. Steiner has been having a go at soccer, rugby et al for ages. It's taken in jest and I answer in jest.
b) Secondly, because Association Football is the World's game and American Football is rubbish

What's the average cost to get into a soccer game in England? I can usually get a good seat in Iowa city for around $75. I would imagine it would be more at the shoe. I hardly know anything about soccer. How many games do they play in a season. When's it start and end. Do you have a championship game? How many teams in England?

Colder - stay in the Greater Manchester area. Famous old club - particularly because of the FA Cup

Cost really varies from club to club, where you sit etc etc. A top price ticket at Tottenham is £80.

The top division - the premiership - has 20 teams and we play each other home and away i.e. 38 league games per season. In addition there are two domestic cup competitions and Euopean competion for those that qualify. There are three professional leagues below the premiership - I think 92 clubs in all.

Season lasts from August to May.

The English football league started in 1888? The FA Cup began in 1872.

Warspite1

No. Manchester United are the most successful team in English football - having won the title 19(?) times.

This team won the first FA Cup final at (the old) Wembley in 1923.

Thanks warspite. 1888 huh? Iowa played its first college football game in 1889. I was wondering what is England's biggest rival? Germany? France? Spain?

In theory its Scotland for obvious reasons. In reality, Scotland see us as their biggest rival, but we probably see Germany as being ours. I think losing to anyone is painful but Germany, France and Scotland have to be the worst countries to lose to.

So how does US football work? Don't you have franchises or something? When you say Iowa, is this the same club?

Nope - its Bolton Wanderers. Apologies, but I suspect there was absolutely nothing remotely of interest to most people in that stat - but I only found that out this week and I think its a good quiz question to remember + I love football history.
