Singapore holds... for now! One of the Indian brigades got stuck behind the lines and is now moving on Kluong, forcing the Japanese to keep a garrison.. about the best that troop can do..






Dennis probably had a big "O crap" moment when the Singapore CD guns opened fire on a mid sized (about 8 ships) supply convoy he set to resupply Malaya.. Unfortunately for him he ordered them to unload on the west coast, not the east coast of the Peninsula...

All but two xAKs were sunk by CD and mines.. the survivors were sunk during the AM/PM air phase by Vildebeest torpedo bombers..

BB Mississippi takes a torpedo from I-9 after refueling at Pearl Harbor and is heading back to San Fransico for repairs..

South west Pacific

Pensacola and Louisville bombard Rabaul and attract the IJN attention as a few days later a cruiser TF reinforces the area. The Australian cruisers are still in the area but withdrawn just out of range..

164th Infantry and 193rd tank battalion are unloading at Melbourne. The Americal division will be formed as soon as the remaining regiments arrive. Planned use is the defense of the east coast of Australia (for now).

Large tanker and cargo convoys are arriving at Australia to stock the continent.

Northern Australia

The first two supply convoys have unloaded at Darwin. The area is stripped of ships. Anything worth mentioning is now at Perth or moving further south.

18th UK is digging in and training up.

SWPAC

A IJN cruiser force has arrived at and is guarding Rabaul. No major movements here yet.

CBI

Some NG units have landed at Mersing. Probably to guard supplies that have been unloaded there. I have been able to cut the railroad at Khira Khan for a few days, hampering the flow of supplies (I hope). Torpedo bombers based at Singapore attacked the shipping and damaged two freighters.

Pegu has fallen. The IJA seems to be regrouping for a push on Rangoon.

A large force is now east of Sian and attempting to cross the river into a rough hex into a single Chinese corps dug in there. Hope to slow the advance a bit here. I am moving 38th and 47th corps over the river to cut the supply line and force a reaction. A couple of bombers and fighters are transfered to Sian to start interdict the fascist invaders...

DEI

KB is operating in the area. It is now escorting a troop convoy moving on either Sumatra or Java. I have lost around 45-50 aircraft attacking the convoy, scoring hits and a couple of ships, sinking at least one, probably two..

KB struck at Singapore. It badly damaged the two dominant Hurricane squadrons I have there. Still very happy with results. Many Sally and Lily type bombers have been destroyed in un(der)escorted strikes. A total of 130 aircraft (60% bombers) are claimed for the loss of about 20 hurricanes...

USN Carriers with tanker support are moving into position. With only miniKB unaccounted for I feel confident enough to threaten Dennis on other fronts.

Allied torpedo bombers, based Palembang, feast on the IJN cargoes and transports. At least 6 ships are sunk, a couple of more damaged as they try to reinforce the Sumatra invasion (troops landed at Oosthaven). If intel is correct I have destroyed elements of the 21st division.

Dennis is betting on KB air coverage but he is keeping KB to far away to be able to support. The bombers are detected between 5-10 minuts out.. No radar yet! If he wants coverage as they pass Palembang he'll need to LRCAP the convoy at low level. (If you ask me he should just bomb the airfield)..

About 500 IJA AV now has dry land under their feet on Sumatra (38th div, with support), with at least another 350 (damaged 21st division) on the way... That is not enough to take Palembang swiftly... He'll need to reinforce here as quickly as possible....

11th BG is upgraded to the B17E.. I'll probably station them in Australia.

DEI

Vildebeests and Falcons are again succesful.. CL Jintsu is sunk, as well as additional cargo vessels and troop transports.. BB Kongo and CA Takao take a torpedo. Most of the bombers are lost in the fight, but I am hoping for one more day of succes!

With quite a lot of troops lost aboard those transports Dennis will have to consider reinforcing more on Sumatra, and keeping the KB in support! With MiniKB now spotted (hanging around in the east DEI) I am free to operate in the Pacific. Unfortunately I am still out of range...

The fight for Sumatra continues. The 38th div is moving on Palembang, but slowly. It will probably reach the area in early march.

the dutch airforce bomber fleet is still largely intact. Most of the fighters are destroyed. The 139WH-3 bombers and CW-22 Falcons score hits on transports and merchants. On the 20th B17 bombers target Oosthaven port and hit a few old DDs and an AP hiding in the anchorage. Sinkings are confirmed.

Why Dennis does not bomb airfields in Java is absolutely unclear to me...

CBI

Rangoon is cut, about 150 AV remains to defend the town. New trenches are being dug in the jungle. The coastal road is wide open though. I am betting on his unwillingness to move further ahead uncovered.. 2,5 division is not enough to secure Burma..

47th and 38th (chinese) corps take position east of Sian, cutting the supply of the IJA divisions west of position.. as planned.

Singapore

Holds.. The Japanese forces are badly damaged, but so are the defenders.. It will probably fall early march opening up a major port for the IJN. Most of the aircraft are evacuated. I am using Pt. Blair for that purpose.. Exception is 488 squadron (New Zealand, 63 kills). It's moved to Soerabaja to defend the B17s stationed there. Next stop would be Darwin.

SOPAC

Baseforces and some infantry being moved to Pago Pago (secondary base in the area, Suva being the primary)...

Port Moresby is low on supplies. Attempts being made to resupply it..

CENPAC

BBs Maryland, Nevada and Arizona have all system and engine damage repaired. Ships are ready to be moved to the East coast for major repairs and overhaul.. 4 DMS are leading the way in a ASW TF.

The 38th div and the damaged 21st div (due to transport sinkings) shock attacked Palembang early march, and suffered for it. Looks like Palembang will be able to hold out for a good while, with two Indian brigades, a dutch regiment and several battalions.

Java is invaded. I have tried to get some supplies in but KB is still supporting the operation and land based bombers attack any shipping in the DEI..

CBI

Rangoon has fallen and I am moving into position further north..

Singapore

Holds.. but it won't be long now..

Clark Field and Bataan..

Hold off a couple of assaults, but supplies are running low.

Australian and New Zealand cruisers try to intercept an unloading troop convoy at Munda. Being detected they fail the intercept and in turn get intercepted by cruiser force "Rabaul". The battle is inconclusive (Australia does take a lot of system damage from fires) but it gives me valuable intel.

I flew the torpedo bombers of to make sure the carriers are operating at max. efficiency. 120 Dauntless divebombers and 140 fighters (100 wildcats) are ready to rumble. Most of the fighters are set to CAP as there are G4Ms and A6M2s at Rabaul. I am not sure how many..

KB and mini KB are in a galaxy far far away so fingers crossed

The cruisers weren't hit very hard but several troop convoys in the area took a severe beating. Other good news is we only lost a couple of aircraft to defending A6M2s and flak..

No retaliation from land based air so far..

I am moving the fleet towards the NE to strike at a badly damaged troop convoy that won't be able to get away. This is about 7 hexes from Rabaul so I'll probably get attacked from there tommorow. The airfield there shows only a few fighters and bombers so if there is anything there it will be fatigued from the flight in. That should help my radar assisted CAP..

Ofcourse it is a risk but with KB and miniKB far away one worth taking again. After the strike I'll withdraw towards Suva..

Was it a bug or just really bad luck? The carriers decided to withdraw after being ordered to do so, but the small cruiser force assigned to cover the flattops lingered in Betty and Nell range.

Yeah, it's a DBB-C game so I am hoping that this will hurt his ability to haul supply and resources... The real price is his tankers and oilers though..

Our game has been on hold for about 2,5 -3 weeks due to holiday / business trips and when we did play it was just a matter of Dennis trying to reinforce areas he was already invested in. A couple of merchants have been sunk by the still active Dutch Airforce, now flying Mitchells, DB7s and P40Es, but that is about it..

He recently moved reinforcements into the DEI area and started the assault on NG (I assume his goal is Prt Moresby for now).

Singapore did not fall yet but will within a turn or 3.

Best way to explain the current situation is posting screenshots of a few of the major theatres.. Over the next few turns I'll try to clarify my defense/battle plan for the coming two months. No real plans on offensive moves as Dennis his moves did not reveal any future goals to me..

Falls. Sealanes to Rangoon are open now. That makes the IJ player life easier. He can now move in support troops by sea, instead of walking the jungle.

Burma

No real succes in ground combat. Most of the area is to open to make a real stand vs three full divisions. The sky is dominated by the allies. No airbases or fighters sighted yet. It is all infantry. With sealanes now open we might see an increase in activity..

Canton island falls. A small troop detachment supported by KB invaded and captured the island. There was just a basegroup there (supporting search planes). It will be rebuild.

Batavia is now ready to fall. Japanese push to Soerabaja in the east. I am still using Soerabaja to rearm and refuel submarines operating in the area.

Near Singapore

A few days after the failed carrier raid, British battleships succeed in sneaking into the Malacca strait. By chance (sigint) I receive intel that the Japanese are going to land troops at Tandjoengbalai. Dutch patrol planes still operating from Sumatra pick up a convoy and the Royal Navy intercepts... No escorts are protecting the poor troop ships (false sense of security) and many Japanese soldiers go down with buring ships. British submarines manage to pick of two additional undamaged ships and two damaged ones.

Nice tactical victory! Now I just need to disengage. No serious op losses on aircraft for the Japanese this turn. I am assuming for now that most of the Air HQs are deployed elsewhere. Nothing at Saigon and no aviation support at Singapore yet. We'll find out soon. The british battleships are detached and running full speed for Colombo. The supporting destroyers and cruisers try another intercept and then will speed for Colombo as well. Destroyers and cruisers are much harder to hit with torpedoes!

KB is in the Pacific and miniKB was sighed far to the east of Java a few days ago and not expected to be in range.

Note that this is another reason to capture Port Blair as soon as possible!

Apparantly there were torpedo bombers nearby. They just didn't detect my taskforce due to command issues (no search set according to Dennis).

Hobart and Enterprise with DD escorts made another attack run, sinking several AKs before withdrawing. During the combat Express and Encounter collided.. Express subsequently took a torpedo fired by a submarine and sank. Encounter, detached as well got mauled badly by G4Ms and Hobart also ate a torpedo, putting her at 81 float (60 major) within Betty and Nell range. She is a writeoff....

The RN battlewagons were detached after first contact and are on the way to Colombo, for now undetected. They should be able to make it.

I would have just lost Hobart if not for the collision..

Stable for now. Supply is a big issue ofcourse....

Burma

Shwebo, Mandalay in Japanese hands. Blenheims have been bombing troops for weeks now, disabling a lot of squads. No significant IJN/A airgroups spotted to counter this tactic.. IJA is staying in the clear hexes, not advancing into Jungle.

Java

Not much longer.. Batavia almost done, Soerabaja under siege. Damaged a lot of IJ divisions. Those will need recovering

Sumatra

Palembang holding out. SIGINT showing reinforcements moving on Oosthaven (at least two divisions, probably more). That should enable Dennis to take Palembang and free up those forces (july somewhere)

Timor

Japanese landings in east and west area. I have got two battalions at Koepang and the last P40E´s of the dutch airforce are stationed there..

SW Pacific

Bad judgement let to the loss of several cruisers at Prt. Moresby

I did manage to get the better part of what I believe was a division moving on the base... That will delay the Japanese and advance and will probably give me another month of preparing for a Japanese move on perhaps Suva, Pago Pago or the West coast of Australia?

Allied ship losses



I could have prevented the sinking of Houston and Leander. Louisville and Pensacola got hit by torpedo bombers because they didn't retire when they were ordered to (still can't explain it, the carriers retired and they had the same orders). The rest of the capital ships were lost in heavy combat with the IJN. The IJN losses are much lighter (two BBs, CVE, several CLs and DDs).

Up to now my surface ships attacked troop convoys whenever possible. With the game now in may and the bases that I want to defend build up quite well I will change strategy from slowing down the rising sun.

New goal: Attrition warfare.. not the planes, not the troops.. those can be replaced. The allied airforce will be used to create local air superiority

Carriers, battleships, cruisers, destroyers... these can't be replaced...
