There was an Allied bombardment attack at Ambon but they didn't hit anything.

I moved a Bab's unit to Temuloh in order to be in range of Palembang. I specified Paley as the target of the recon so maybe we'll have some information about what's in there in the way of troops, etc.

I've moved a Lilly unit to Kendari to do Naval Searches. You can see in the picture that I have them concentrated on the SE Java Sea.
Hopefully I'll be able to use these guys to find the ships and the Betty's and Nell's can destroy them.

I've ordered a Sally unit to do ground attacks on the Allied ground unit at Ambon. I may have to bomb him for a couple of days to see any change in the Allied unit.

I've moved a Betty unit to Rabaul and they have a radius of action of 21 hexes and can do Naval Attacks in the waters near the NE Australia coast. Maybe in some future turn I can move them further to the west and south to more fully cut off any ship traffic in and around North Australia.

Wow!
Larry's sure been busy, doesn't leave much to add for Jan 1 or Jan 2. Jan 3rd is a disapointment for the PT's at Sorby... 12 PT boats and a CV TF sailing right by them...I missed a golden opportunity!

A coupleof his subs took damage - they wont be out of commission long, but it's good for morale.

I'm doing exactly as Larry pointed out, rolling with the punches, setting up as many surprises as I can with meager ships and supplies. It's' not going to change much until late 42 or early 43. Then it will be more of a boxing match.

I'll think twice before sending anyone to Wake... I am not about to waste 2CV's for a potshot at a CA, or even the BB... but my can't shoot straight gang (USN subs) however is an entirely different story!

I gotta get my P--40's altitude higher for the bounce against the Zeroes... or does that matter in this game?

I really want to do some damage, but do not want to give the game away so early... too Kimmel-ish? Larry has already moved the KB south and east further than IRL...Makes me wonder if he's going to try to strangle Australia? Force me to move everything through Africa? Hmmm... any suggestions? I'm holding the India units and Naval forces around Karachi until he starts to play his hand out... Need to move Warspite through the East Coast to Africa (mombasa?) to avoid his picket line of subs...

I'm fortunate in that the oil fields and refineries at Ballikpapan seem to be largely undamaged. Some miinor dents here and there but most of them are running. I should be able to get some oil and supplies out of that port pretty soon.

Just a side story...
I was just reading Mandrakes AAR and he was commenting on his fridge not working after the repairman visited to fix something else wrong with it... I had my big screen Samsung go on the fritz about six months ago. Found out it was a $.80 resistor that was 12.5 wattts or volts and it was supposed to be a 25 watt or volt resistor... VERY nice repairman fixed the part - showed me what was wrong and that I shouldn't have any more problems... In an extreme stroke of luck he was still here when the the LCD component blew up protecting the new $.80 resistor!!! Because of that fact Samsung covered the part even though it wasn't technically under warranty... I haven't had a problem since then... I even sent the repairman a christmas card and a bottle as a thank you!

Larry - I was just rereading the last couple pages of posts and saw where you wanted to scuttle the ARD??? Its a mobile repair dock that can fix damage to flotation with supply... Not as fast as regular drydocks, but very important around Truk, Kwajalein, Beetlebob, or even Wake if you take over Midway. Very valuable in my experience and highly sought after to destroy by the Allies as not having it will force you to go to a regular drydock further behind the lines...

Things are looking up...yeah not really but something is better than nothing...<smile>
11 of the twelve cargo ships I sent to Pago Pago are now fish houses...
It also says I bagged the CA Suzuya, nothing from Larry about that soo I'll assume it's FOW.

It's a mobile drydock.......how cool is that. Well, I found a second one of them so I guess I won't scuttle them after all.

That sunken CA isn't showing on my sunk ships screen so I'm guessing your game engine is FOW-ing you Jim.

Larry,

In the game manual there is an appendix with descriptions of all the ship types and designations... hope it helps you

I started using it so much I actually printed out the appendix on paper and had them laminated... I still have them today on top of my computer...

Yeah, I was aware of the appendix section for ship types I was just too lazy to look up the ARD type. But thanks though.

EDIT: Ambon is NOT an uncontested landing site.

I'm guessing that only the Dud-ness of Jim's torpedoes saved my AK. I had dispatched this AK to Ocean Island to refuel the port so it's loaded with all kinds of fuel and would burn brightly if torped.

The Yorktown is showing up on the sunk ships list but with only one torp hit I'm not 100% sure I should believe it's sunk. More likely it's just limping back to SFO and will spend some time in the shipyard. Only Jim knows for sure and he hasn't said anything about it yet.
