I have started in earnest to convert 1920 - 30 Era,into WITP Admirals Edition. I have discovered that WITP AE is hard coded for Dec 7TH 1941 so our dreadnoughts etc will be 20 years in the future, but the 1941 WITP AE will be dumbed down to WAR PLAN ORANGE equipment, everything will use the new WITP AE enviroment though.

GAMERS WILL NEED TO OWN BOTH GAMES IF THIS MOD GETS COMPLETED!

As the screen shot shows everything is at a very early stage of development,I have still to add British devices to the database, and I'm just starting to add the ship classes, starting with British Aircraft carriers, since I can add a great deal more to the game using the Admirals Edition editor,I was thinking of adding ships for Austria,Brazil etc that have never ever appeared in game, please let me know if anyone is interested in playing this scenario when finnished or not,If you are interested it should be complete by Xmas next year 2013,if not interested then it looks like I will be the only one playing the game when finnished.

Due to the size of this new project I will be very very busy behind the scenes working on it,which means I won't be around here much.

Spectacular work as usual, Kirk. I assume you have to own WITP-AE to play it. I may actually go out and buy it if that's the case!

Hi Rob yes unfortunately you will have to have a copy off Admirals Edition, not only that but you will need a duplicate install of the game, because my scenario will not be compatible with anything,IE all new art work for aircraft and ships + all new devices database, please bare in mind that this is a mamouth undertaking on my part, and I'm hoping will be complete by Xmas 2013,as you can see from the recent art work posts, the Brazilian navy will be in the game, and I plan to include the Austrian fleet as well, again with all new art work, plus many more aircraft types will have all new art work done.If anyone does buy Admirals Edition which is head and shoulders better than what is available with WAR PLAN ORANGE,and I can heartily recommend the game to everyone, because even without my impending scenario being completed, which with hand on heart will be completed,WITP AE is a superb game.

Admirals Edition scenario database is progressing very well,I now have the vast majority of the weapons database done,as you can see from this screen shot of the British Aircraft carrier Furious in game data.

Well, I'm glad to see the progress that is being made, Kirk. What you're basically creating is a mod of WitP-AE, which parallels WPO's earlier roots. If possible, I'd suggest several scenario variants:

Updated "stock" scenarios, 1922 and 1926
Updated "stock" scenarios plus all the extra goodies you've been making (landing craft, etc)
The grand "Castles of Steel" variant you've put so much effort in.

If someone from Matrix actually happens to come through here sometime between now and never, I don't think you'll run into the same issues that we had last time someone in the community discussed adapting WPO to WitP-AE, since you need to buy the other game in order to run it. Of course, you're basically creating a new game for Matrix, free of charge. I know its a labor of love for you, but it would be nice if they offered you some kind of compensation or at least an acknowledgement for your efforts.

Rob you are spot on,I'm creating a hybrid our beloved Dreadnoughts are being given a chance to see the light off day in the magical world of Admirals Edition,as you say this work is being done for the pure thrill and hell of it,it was a wish that uncle Graham ( HELLFIREJET ) wanted to see,and I want to do it for him. This is a project straight from the heart that I need to do,if you know what I mean.I'm not looking for anything, this is something I actually like doing. As for redoing or converting the stock WAR PLAN ORANGE scenario's to Admirals Edition,I would do it but I don't want to annoy anyone who made WAR PLAN ORANGE in the first place, even althought everything I'm doing is done by me from scratch, including device research for the weapon systems that appear in the game, and off course all the Aircraft and Ship art is mine as well.So as far as I can see it's a win win situation for Matrix games,I do all the hard work and as a spin off they might get new customers buying WAR PLAN ORANGE + WITP AE.

I have to say that I'm disappointed with the lack of interest about this massive task I'm trying complete with this Admirals Edition conversion, this thread has had over 190 hits, and so far only Connfire has left any comments,at the start of the thread I asked if there was any interest in this project, but sadly that answer appears to be no,well since this is a project that was a dream for my late uncle,I will complete it and hopefully he will be pleased that I took on the challenge.

As much as I was happy to hear of your new project, I was also a little disappointed.

I was happy to hear that you were going to continue your super fine work on AE and it sounds, from you, that it is easy to work with. The reason I was disappointed is that I have been staying away from AE (and also WitP) due to micromanagement issues. Historically I don't enjoy playing games where you have to manage every little thing. On top of that, the price tag of AE is too steep for me. So all I am able to do is sit on the fence and cheer you on.

I wish you luck with the new game mod and as always, look forward to seeing your newly released work.

Thanks for the feedback, well if WITP AE is not something you fancy with its micro management etc,I suppose I could do another scenario even bigger than CASTLES OF STEEL for the WAR PLAN ORANGE game system,I have been doing a huge amount off research and for the British Aircraft alone I have 42 New aircraft types to add to the game, would that peek your interest more?

The Curtiss looks great.

If I could make a suggestion so the guys aren't confused, keep "AE" art in this thread and the art for the actual WPO put in a different thread.

I thank you for the privilege of offering me the opportunity of naming your next big scenario however, I will pass. You are the mastermind behind the great art mods, and I am just happy to be able to use your work.

Ok I will start a new thread for the unnamed as yet scenario, and I will bring this thread to a halt, because I think at a latter date when the scenario is nearly ready I will post it in the WITP AE forum.

Sorry for my absence, Kirk, I've been extraordinarily busy lately.

I've never played AE, though I tend to be a bit of a micro-manager anyway, for better or worse. I do feel that War Plan Orange deserves more attention then it has received. I know that the last time the designer came through this forum, back in 2009 he did not sound as if WPO would be updated any time soon, if ever. Of course, I believe that was before Slitherine paired up with Matrix, so who knows?

I can't say one way or another if I'd like to see a WPO-AE, only because I don't have any experience to reference AE with. I do think the WPO game engine could use some tweaking. If Matrix does indeed not intend to do any updates, then maybe they could expand and update the EDITORS so people like you can have more creative and strategic options beyond adding units, updating the artwork, and trying to trick the AI into being challenging.

Speaking for myself, nearly all of my forum posting activity has been on the WPO message board - it is the only Matrix game I own at this time. Lately I've been checking out other forums. The WitP and WitP-AE guys aren't that much different from us, and there's more of them. There's a general forum section which has a thread which I just posted at for the first time called "Games you just keep playing". Guess which one I voted for? Here's the link - http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2880296

Anyway, I'm probably rambling at this point, which is better then a rant I guess. One more thing, Kirk, even though I simply haven't been in a position to playtest your stuff as often as I'd like to lately, I and others are following your progress. And I have little doubt your scenerios are being played out there. Anyone who likes action-packed, sustained naval gunnery battles ought to give it a shot. But some people are shy about posting - believe it or not I lurked on this board for over a year before I started (and now I won't shut up ) Here's a screenshot I took from Castles of Steel, of Royal Navy pre-dreadnoughts fighting a combined Japanese-German-Italian fleet off Vigan :

There were actually 3 naval clashes in the vicinity of Vigan that night, the screenshot shows the 2nd. I'd say the edge went to the Allies, but with all of the German and Italian ships Japan certainly still has a lot of fight left to it.
