I am playing an AI game as the Allies. July 42 I have just Creamed a lot of Japanese shipping near Hawaii. I am guessing it was an invasion attempt;but, as no units ever got a chance to land, I will never be sure. I should mention that the Kb and heavier surface combatants were absent. I havent seen anything heavier than a cl. has anyone ever seen anything like it??

There is a thread on tech support in a similar vein. I believe it is called AI is weak. This has been seen before.

It may be a bug. Are you playing the latest update? Back in the early days of AE the AI would send raiding SCTFs to Pearl Harbor in hopes of catching something. They usually got demolished. It was part of the aggressive AI Andy Mac put together for AE. Most of the other aggressive moves that Andy put in there worked pretty well at causing headaches for the allies, but this one usually just led to a bunch of Japanese SCTFs sinking. In an AI game I was playing before they fixed it, I would rerun the turn and let the AI escape. No fun in a victory over a mistake. The AI needs all the help it can get.

Since like the third official patch or something, I've not seen this behavior. Not sure why it's popping up all of a sudden.

one day, there will not even be an AI part to this game, but an easy to manage multiplayer system

Such a day will not happen for a long, long time, if ever. Matrix Games is in the business of selling games, and there are far more vs. AI players than there are only-PBEM players.
An actual multi-player option in the next version of AE would be very nice, however.

I would add thatthe latest AI scripts AndyMac added are interesting, KB raiding as far south as Sydney. Picking up some odd islands through the DEI rather than just the normal targets.

There has been a SCTF raid SW of Hawaii, did surprise a small supply TF but was easily countered by my 1 and only floating CV.

To be honest, the current system works quite well...
