If Allied units move into Indochina, the Japanese get militia units (up to four 1/3 strength divisions). [manual 8.8]

Chinese entry into Indochina triggers Counter Invasion forces. [manual 8.3.5]

Are the Counter Invasion forces in addition to the militia units or are they the same units?

hmm, i'm in a DBB_B game, but i just finished mopping up Indochina (Apr 43), using Oz, Ind, Brit & Chinese LCUs. the 4 militia divs didn't show up.

In classical WITP they would not appear if you crossed the border in 1943. No reason to not expect that feature was not carried over into AE.

Alfred - good to know.

I'll adjust my schedule for the move on Indochina - it's late May 42 vs AI and my plan is to get involved in a land war in Asia despite Vizzini's (and MacArthur's) advice to the contrary. IMO the rationale for avoiding a land war in Asia doesn't apply because I AM ASIA (India / China / USSR).

These are very weak unit w/ poor morale, experience and little firepower. Not reallly worth freting over.

Rats, wish I'd known that I could've just waited until 1943 to start working on Indochina. I think I entered in 12/42. Oh well, 4 understrength divisions isn't too much to handle...

and lets not forget, these are static units!

who don't even show up where you need Garrison forces. In my AI game they were a giant disappointment, after the pains I took to force a Chinese retreat into Indochina.

Now I'm a little confused - when do the militia units appear? Is it after 1943 (i.e., 1944 and later)? Or is it before 1943? Or is it that they won't appear only in 1943 (triggered in 1942 or 1944/45/46)?

In classical WITP they appeared only if a crossing of the Indo-China border occurred in 1942.
