SOUTHERN ARMY (Burma-Java-Ambon)

Enemy sitrep:
ALERT! Concentration of enemy ground units against defending 19th Division (16th Army). Some enemy units might be withdrawing to the NE.
ALERT!2 enemy continues air interdiction of ground reinforcements to 16th Army.
ALERT!3 enemy TF located just SE Ceylon by air recce.

Current op:
INMON SAKUSEN:
16th Army: Three divisions (9th, 19th and 38th) are in forward defensive positions with secure LOC to Chittagong. Note: 16th Army is being reinforced by 21st Division.
25th Army: IGD and 56th Divisions are reorganizing at Rangoon. 5th Division and army artillery units will support 15th Army's attack on Myitkynia. 18th Division is embarked on transports for Chittagong and will then deploy to Comilla.

The OPLAN, effective from 20 May, has three Lines of Operations and 13 DPs:



1) Cut SLOC to Australia: West and East
IOT delay enemy US naval offensive actions from Australia
KATSUIRO SAKUSEN

DP 1 = Conquer, or deny the use of Cocos island: RED NOTE: changed from AMBER.
DP 2 = Conquer, or deny the use of Torres strait: RED
DP 3 = Conquer New Caledonia: RED
DP 9 = Defend Palmyra and Xmas islands: GREEN
DP 10 = INTACT KB with no limitations in fuel: RED NOTE: changed from AMBER.



2) Conquer the border area India-Burma

DP 5 = Conquer Mytikynia: AMBER NOTE: changed from RED.

INTELLIGENCE REPORT

DATE: 20 JUNE 1942

FROM: COMBINED FLEET

TO: GHQ

TEXT:
INTREP 15th JUNE concluded that the enemy carrier fleet was likely to meet up with a major transportation TF near Perth and support the movement of that TF to India.
Radio intercepts indicates a major shipping operation on-going from Perth to the NW (see attached map).
It is likely that this is a major reinforcement convoy to India with one or several enemy divisions.
This major target can be intercepted by COMBINED FLEET east of Diego Garcia on 2nd JULY.

SOUTHERN EXPEDITIONARY ARMY (Burma-Java-Ambon)

Enemy sitrep:
LR air recce find only four ground units at Colombo. Note: Is Ceylon practically empty? enemy is likely using Madras and Trincomalee as additionally naval bases.

INMON SAKUSEN:
2nd Area Army: will assume tactical command of all ground units in NE India. Will arrive in Singapore in 6 days.

TEXT: 70+ enemy fighter aircraft and two combat TF are at Colombo. Most likely one TF of 2 DD and one TF with 3 CA/CL and 2 DD. There are also four ground units at Colombo.

At Trincomalee two AKEs and one AMc were sunk in the harbour after our port attack. There are two ground units at Trincomalee.
