ORIGINAL: warspite1 Oh, and by the way, why does European history revolve around the French and such a limited timespan? The Age of Voltaire (all the Durrant books in fact) is not really about France, but Europe. Some titles are taken from French history, but I have the impression they cover England in greater detail. For French history of this era, and just in case John reads this, nothing beats Michelet's History of the French Revolution, and Chateaubriand's Memoires d'outre tombe. There is also a 19 volume History of France by Michelet which is probably the easiest reading history book I've read, and a perfect one for a young person. (And yeah, I'm pushing France, not that I have anything against other Europeans, mind you, well save the British and the Germans of course). Francois
