A realization just occurred to me. There are many of us who play mostly against the AI. This is for many reasons, of course, but the one expressed most often is the inability to commit to daily or even multiple-per-day turns. It seems to me that those in this situation, a group to which I belong, would be able to easily find opponents with the same problem. I have, in fact, started two PBEM games before -- one ended because AE was coming out and we wanted to switch over before we got too deep into the war, the other because my opponent had an extended vacation and then had his work schedule changed drastically. In both cases, though, both players understood from the outset that daily (or more frequent) turns over an extended period just wasn't going to happen. The point is: don't let the infrequency of turns stop you from trying PBEM! (Of course, if you have other reasons, that's another matter.) There will be opponents willing to play under those terms. That said, less than a turn or two per week might be a bit of a stretch; unless you're the world's champion note-taker, you will forget too much between turns. If you can usually reach that minimum level, though, it can be an enjoyable experience. (Just to show I practice what I preach: right now I'm seeing delays of weeks between my turns, but as soon as I clear up my RL obstacles I plan to advertise for another opponent. Then it just becomes a matter of finding one with a similar approach to the game!)
