When the box is displayed for the Roman Election results it would be useful to have a hierarchical arrangement of the elected generals. I for one was confused for a while over who was in charge or shared command - I did'nt know my consuls from my propretors!

Hi, James. Nice name.

That's not a bad suggestion, but let me temper it a little. The hierarchy of Roman commanders is pretty much only used to decide which armies should be commanded by which newly elected Roman leaders. Consuls get priority over Praetors, for example, in commanding the larger armies as they exist at the end of the turn.

After placing the leaders, the actual mechanism of activation is done not by rank but by expediency. The AI prioritizes leaders based on which leaders can best carry out the AI's "planning." So a Praetor may be activated over a Consul if that Praetor is in a better position to accomplish something.

Consuls will often be the ones doing the important things because they usually get put in charge of the larger armies, but the AI is allowed to activate whichever leaders it wants to.

That is not completely realistic but it does make it easier for the AI to be effective. I suppose that really means: it made it easier for me to program.

Actually I would say an expediant use of generals who are best positioned is realisitic!

What I try to determine in the results of Roman elections is the overall strategy I may face - ie two aggressive consuls suggests the senate could make some bold decisions this year. A hierarchical arrangement of elected generals on the results box would make this clearer & also avoid any confusion over senate ranks. It would also look nice too!

HI James,

I am sorry for the delay in responding. I just wanted to say that I have added your suggestion to my "to do" list.

But, I don't know when I will have the time to issue a patch.

I do want to get the easier suggestions wrapped together and posted as a public beta. I'll do what I can to speed that process up.

Thanks for the suggestion!
