Yes some decisions have been made, but I am hesitant to share any details yet with the community. Not because I want to be secretive, but because I don't want to dissapoint anybody if the plans will change during development.
I'll try to give some news about the next title in November.
For now I can at least say I am coding the new game from the ground up and aiming at making it a multi-platform release. My personal goal with the next title is to implement all the lessons learned with developing and marketing the previous games. It will be a wargame, there will be hexagons, but it will definitely be a new kind of game. Compared to previous games I did this game will be more innovative and i intend to make it bridge the gap between general strategy game titles and more wargamish titles.
In the meantime, if you have an Android device, you can get the newly released Small General : Eastern Front or for the PC (for those who somehow missed this news :) ) the recent release of Decisive Campaigns : Case Blue.
Kind regards, Vic

You could be correct but I'm not so sure. The "gap" could be a game somewhere between ATG and a military simulation game like the DC series. I'm not sure what that might be exactly. Perhaps to do justice to the ATG line, it requires a ground up rewrite. The engine in all Vic's games is basically the same and several years old. The engine got tweaked for the DC series but I think it is basically the same core structure. I suppose we will get some hint in November. So long as it uses WW2 era technology and has a strong random game component I'll probably be happy.

Well it is pretty obvious it will not be an update to this game.
With hexes, it will be turn based. A civilization type wargame, ATG on steriods. Only thing i can think of that would bridge gap between general strategy and wargames.

*I'm in the Wargamer middle ground* I don't buy all the wargames I want, I just buy more than I need.
I want a game where I decide the pieces and parts to the Divisions and not limited to 8 types. Where I can include organic artillery and not be forced to fire it long distance and then not be able to attack with the division. And I can create formations and keep them without redoing them every time.

Something like this?

I'm sure we will continue to see bug fix releases and perhaps like v2.11 some additional enhancements. I'm fairly certain a v2.12 is in the works already. If this new game turns out to be a continuation of the AT line in some form, then I'd say yes, there likely won't be any future major updates to the current ATG.

so does this mean that updates for ATG are no more!
thanks Webizen for your reply. I would like to see more enhancements added into the game instead of a whole new game where one has to fork out money yet again, but that is just me.
I would be happy to pay for any enhancements to ATG rather than buy something else. Vic has to eat too, and for all of the enjoyment he has brought into my life with this game, he deserves to get compensated. A lot of games come out with bigger and better all the time, but this can't really be improved very much. If Vic petitioned us for a small fee for upgrades, I would be happy ( I mean it) to compensate Vic for his time and effort, I play this game for many hours a week. It has already become the best $50 that I never spent ( a friend bought me the game and then guilted me into starting to play with him). Meanfcker
Don't see many games that have been out this long where the creator stays involved. Thank you Vic for the updates, and for being so active on this forum.
Much as I dream of a "Platinum" version of AT, a totally new project is equally intriguing. cheers,
Sure would be nice to see someone make a game that's kind of a mix of TOAW and SC, where the composition of each unit would display variable functions/features and each hex a "density of deployment" coupled with casualty evasion for terrain, and perhaps some significance attached to each hex, like a "national morale" or resource level.
Thx for supporting your games. Put me in the camp of willing to throw some money your way for an update to this game. Might tick off some people, but i wouldn't care, your dedication to your games deserves to be rewarded and if it keeps you making more games then it's all good. Keep doing what your doing, your doing it the right way and other developers could take note. I just hope your fine games are selling in enough quantities to reward you for your time and dedication.

I´m very very happy with ATG . AI is an important issue to solve, sadly that´s the main reason so many people prefer always to play multiplayer. The resource mod (by lancer) used for multiplayer would be like a dream. I know these two improvements are difficult to do, so I would agree to pay for updates. When you update Advanced Tactics you´re improving DC cos AT is its root. In this way you´re killing two birds with one stone. Vic, Advanced Tactics could be a classic if you wish, and you know how to do it.

How about we ask Vic to give us a place to donate to for helping him with the game? I could probably afford a few bucks. But usually only at the first of the month ) LOL
There is a big real life problem guys. Its not the money. Although the offer is appreciated. I am a ONE man studio. I cannot make a new engine and make an ATP or AT2 at the same time. Well... not at the same speed anyways.
For now my schedule for AT is to first make some patches with some experimental new features for the existing ATG game: *Officers (like in People's Tactics) (around christmas i hope) *Developing your own tanks and module-based research (around easter i hope)
If they work well, attract some new players I will consider doing an ATP or AT2. Such a game would probably focus mainly on AI and Interface improvements.
What I would be more interested in than in money is in some graphics volunteers willing to help make me new graphics for these new features. Also some text writers for helping out with randomized biographies for the officers would be nice.
Best, Vic

Excellent.
Anyways with respect to the volunteers thing, maybe one should sticky your request? In bold letters asking for some skilled volunteers? I know Rob (Warspite) from the World in Flame subforum... has done quite some work on naval write-ups, maybe he has some "connections" who can write randomized biographies. I'm afraid I'm no good at that.
Actually the officer graphics is 1000x more important request than the writing of bio's :)
I could use black and white pics from WW2... but it would look way cooler if we can find somebody to do some portraits in the same style as the unit artwork. To be honest i really liked the style of these here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3180979
since they get so close to the colorfull other artwork already in.
best, Vic
