Hi Guys, How do you invade an island that has nothing, ie no port or airfield.
I see computer can do it but when i send a task force to occupy an island , it just
sits there. I was hoping to build a base but troops just sit on transport sunbathing instead

visigoth-Set yor TF(s) to Amphibious, then load units. An Anphib TF can unload troops/cargo onto an island with no port.
Include in your troops Eng. units with eng vehicles as well as at least one LCU with an assault value.
Include in an Amphib TF AKs or AKAs loaded only with supplies. Hope this helps, Hugh Browne

"dot" bases nearby to major parts of your forces should eventually be occupied automatically. Im sorry I don't know the exact distance or time frame but most un-occupied and undeveloped bases immediately adjancent to your forces should eventually switch sides, representing small scale forces securing them.

And if it doesn't even have a dot base, then I'm pretty sure you can't land there.

If its just a bit of green with no red dot then it doesn't really exist and has no value other than to a few sea birds and turtles. The game has not given it any attributes to build a landing stage on, fly a seaplane from, or indeed land on it.

There's plenty of other places.

OTOH if its part of a bigger land mass but does not have a red dot or base on it then its really up to the players whether it can be amphibiously landed upon. But it has to be amphibious. An example would be the empty green next to Port Blair.......

If there is a dot, you need to amphib onto it. Afterall, there is no dock of any size. "Light" troops, such as infantry squads, Aviation Support, Engineers, Naval Support, etc will be able to offload from just about any ship that can carry them at varying speeds depending on the ship.

However, if you want heavy equipment; Artillery, Tanks, Bulldozer (eng vehicles), or AA guns you'll need to use Naval Support to get them ashore. Naval Base Force type units typically have units with Naval Support. Unload them first, and other units will unload after. Depending on the equipment, it can still take days to unload the heavy equipment. Unloading a 15 ton bulldozer of the side of a ship can by tricky...

The USN has a few Detachment units, which have 10 Aviation Support and 30 Naval Support. These units fit onto small ships and are simply a must use for the US to get troops onto undeveloped dot bases.

If that doesnt work, check to make sure your fleet is set to Unload Cargo.

Also, if it's 1943 or later, using the ocean going landing craft (LST's, etc) or the APA/AKA class ships will eliminate the annoying "it takes forever to unload these troops" problem when assaulting 0 level locations. Those ship types unload everything in one turn, no matter what, so they are very valuable for your invasion forces.
