I'd get a FW-190 Anton (6, 7 or any later model) everyday
The Mg-151 autocannon is just the best 20mm out there...

agree that it's good, maybe even better than the NS-23 of the la-9 (2,300ft/s )

but long-barreled Vya-23 is the best gun of ww2

here we see it on the defector's lagg-3 during japanese testing

3,000 ft/s = most accurate gun of the war

, you could put them onto an f-22 and use it today

funny they put the best gun onto the worst fighter (lagg-3)

(but they also stuck them on the IL-2)

If i remember correctly from my IL-2 Sturmovick gaming experience, the Lagg-3 had its only cannon mounted on the nose... but i don't remind it as a gun so effective...maybe very accurate, but not that decisive in a Boom&Zoom dogfight against Me109s and FW190s.

To me nothing had the pounch of the 190.

And 4 Hispano Cannons (like the Tempest) aren't worth 4 Mg151s

I don't think the 190 carried 4 151s.  Two of them were MG-FFs with a slower ROF.

My submissioin would be the F7F:  4x 20mm + 4x .50

That was indeed the case in early models: A-3, A-4 and A-5. The most heavily armed fighters(in standard configuration) of WW2 were Fw 190 A-8 and A-9 with quad MG151/20s and two 13mm MG131s centerline above the engine. Pretty much the only configurations topping that were field kits for the same planes, up to six 20 mike mikes or 30mm Mk 108 or even heavier Mk 103 cannnos in place of the outer MG151/20s. Ta 152 does get close with wing root MG151/20s and a Mk 108 firing through propeller hub, but not quite. I believe there was also a field kit used for Bf 109 K series that gave it 2 more(up to 3) Mk 108 cannons in underwing gondolas, but that armament wouldnt be as useful in fighter vs. fighter combat as Fw 190s', due to having relatively little ammunition alone + not that great ballistics.

Though one configuration for the Bf 110 beats them too: dual Mk 108s and quad MG151/20s - all centerline with no propeller synchronization needed.

a few versions of the Lagg-3 (model 29?) have the 23mm Vya as a field mod

otherwise all other use 20mm shvak

shvak and ho-5 are smaller rounds (95g)

mg151, hispano, and type 99 are full size 20mm (130g)

23mm Vya though is a 200g projectile , at 3000ft/s

probably the best gun for deflection shooting - small time to reach target

also good against bmbr --> accurate at long range, big HE charge

30mm Mk 108 cannon

~ 1,770 ft/s

as chuck yeager put it "lobbing a grapefruit"

low velocity of guns, and 300kg/m2 wing loading (same as a B-29 ) -- made the Me 262 less than ideal as a fighter, better for B-17 destroyer / JaBo

honestly He 280 with 3xMg151 would have been a good fighter - 210kg/m2 means it can land on grass, and turn okay

He 280 not being produced was a major error by the luftwaffe command
