Status: offline 		In the centre the Germans take a couple of giant strides towards Moscow, brushing aside the flimsy Smolensk line. Alarm bells are ringing in the Kremlin.

Status: offline 		At Kiev, the Germans have effortlessly expanded their bridgehead. I'm still planning to fight forward here, so this sector is my main effort at defeating Barbarossa.

Status: offline 		So, another defence is patched before Moscow, based on Rokossovsky's 34th Army, well dug in behind a river line. If this cracks next go, the odds on my holding Moscow will have lengthened considerably.

Status: offline 		Kiev. To the north the fighting has been brutal as the Germans win a bit more room for manoeuvre. To the south, however, we have an extremely ambitious panzer lunge. Surely this can't be right?

Status: offline 		Hooper, you are playing a very dangerous game. It all depends really on how your opponent reacts. I have a very simple rule as the Axis player, a rule that shows my bias to attack rather then encirlement. The rule is I win every time my landsers launch a deliberate attack. A corollary to that rule is that I win even more if the soviet target is not entrenched and in good terrian. Why do I win? In my view the soviets cannot, in 1941, stand up to 30 or 40 or more deliberate attacks on their forces and this goes double in the clear.

In the center and especially in the south, it looks to me like you have 20 or more divisions ripe for being deliberately attacked. While I think you are not in danger of encirclement as the panzers look out of gas, you may open a turn and see 30 routed soviet units. While the soviet can take a beating, if you subject your army to this at this time and do it again and again you risk collaspe at the end of the campaign season.

In 1941, any turn the soviet does not retreat 3 or 4 hexes to create alittle space designed to protect him from the full fury of landser deliberate attack power, the soviet is taking a risk. Sometimes it can be worth it, sometimes not. That I think is the challenge of being the soviet......how long to keep your head in the tiger's mouth. In my view, starting your turn next to german infantry is a decision of grave importance.

Status: offline 		You're quite right, it is a dangerous game. But it's also a more interesting game than just pulling back and relying on the Germans' logistical problems.

Status: offline 		At Moscow we have another broad front attack, however it is stronger towards the north. This may be co-ordinated with the attack towards Vyshny Volochek. In principle this isn't too dangerous: although much of 20th Army is encircled Rokossovsky is still holding the line.

Status: offline 		In the Kiev battles, the German's consolidate their position, but fail to rescue the trapped panzer division at Poltava, which is forced to surrender. A difficult decision now: to fight on or to withdraw towards Kharkov leaving suicidal rearguards.

At Leningrad there is minimal reoarganisation. The aim to conduct an orderly withdrawal towards the Volkhov, leaving a supplied fortress at Leningrad.

Status: offline 		On the Moscow front,the German's push to the north has made Rhzev the key to the battle. A fairly weak carpet is laid in front of the city to slow down the panzer group. The defences east of the city seem fairly strong now.

Status: offline 		Kiev. I eventually decide on a compromise: a slight withdrawal to more defensible positions. This is a risky move - we are within encircling range of the panzers - but I'm still hoping to hold the Germans for another turn, which may have big benefits down in the line in terms of limiting the ground lost before the mud. Which will now be along in only seven turns.

Status: offline 		Generally, I think the game is even. The Germans have divided their forces pretty equally between the three army groups, so they have to make progress on every front to keep the initiative. If one drive stalls, I can immediately reinforce the other two sectors. They might find Moscow to be the most difficult area - my defences in the centre are becoming stronger, and the river lines to the immediate north and south are too strong to be breached before the mud. The drive to the north contains powerful forces, but it has to go a long way over difficult terrain to become truly dangerous.

On the whole I'm expected Blubel to keep the initiative - on the evidence so far he's as good as any German player I've ever played. We shall see.

Status: offline 		The Soviets have a huge edge IMO. Looking a the end of the Soviet 10 th turn (???), the Axis are 3 hexes away from the Neva with zippo Soviets in danger of being trapped, AGC ... the Axis are about 16 hexes away from Moscow with a huge Soviet fort network awaiting the attack , and AGS the Axis are only 5 hexes east of the Dnepr and 2 turns away from even becoming close to threatening D and Z town.

I agree with vandex, four O's hooper (!!!), that your're playing with fire in AGS. But also you've figured (probably correctly) that your opponent hasn't learn how to fan the flames with his PZ.

The Soviets have a huge adavantage. But it's only the 10 th turn ....

Status: offline 		I'd agree with you, except that the Germans have very good bases from which to launch attacks in all three areas. As Vandex said, the infantry is up in strength, the rail lines are built, with a few HQ build ups it's possible for the Germans to make substantial progress in the north and south and north of Moscow. They might struggle if they take the direct route to Moscow, and they seem to have ignored the Moscow Tula sector, which means no giant encirclement of Moscow. The other thing is my OOB is lower than a snake's sock suspenders. I have about 4.1 million men under arms, which is as low as I've ever been in 20-plus games as the Soviets.
