Anyone care to share other music from movies that tugs your heart strings somewhat or puts you in a reflective mood?

The soundtrack for Glory (1989) by James Horner. Great film.

my fave movie music has gotta be from Kubrick's "2001", esp. as the Pan-Am shuttle makes rendezvous w/ the space station to the tune of Strauss' "Blue Danube" waltz.

jmalter, you are spot on, to me that film had such synergy between the audio and visual that it was "out of this world" so to speak. It put "Also Sprach Zarathustra" on the map. It was the film that set the gold standard for space films... and then of course, there is HAL....

I do have to add two items that don't seem to appear here, or I missed them, one is the Victory at Sea series music, which was great... I had the LP as a kid. Additionally, although I didn't think much of the movie, the sound track to "Titanic" is really huge..... It is great background music. I wanted to play it as background at my wedding in 09, but my then future wife told me not only NO, but HELL no..... I can't think why!

There are so many good soundtracks, it would take a long time list to my favorite ones.

I do own two.

I remember an initial theme variation from steel panthers waw active for a few time (maybe an enhanced release ??).
This introductory music was active only for a few time, very short and repeated theme but very dense of atmosphere.
After a few the standard music was reintroduced.
Someone has heard and know it?

Anything by Bernard Hermann including Cape Fear and everything he did for Hitchcock. Morricone from The Mission. Miranda by Michael Nyman from Prospero's Books. Philip Glass from Mishima.

Beethoven's Sixth in Soylent Green. That piece in Sophie's Choice. That music from Barry Lyndon, I forget what. That music from Enemy at the Gate. Don't know how the trumpeter did that trill over and over, I can't even imitate it, my toungue gets tied up. And of course all that Wagner from Excalibur, it was a bit heavy though.

Oh, Amadeus.

Here's a version (not my favorite) of Miranda

Conan the barbarian (1982 film, not the new one). Excellent soundtrack was composed by Basil Poledouris.

This thread reminds me of the only good scene in "Sleepless in Seattle"
quote:

Sam Baldwin: Well I'm not looking for a mail-order bride! I just want somebody I can have a decent conversation with over dinner. Without it falling down into weepy tears over some movie!
Greg: She's, as you just saw, very emotional.
Sam Baldwin: Although I cried at the end of "the Dirty Dozen."
Greg: Who didn't?
Sam Baldwin: Jim Brown was throwing these hand grenades down these airshafts. And Richard Jaeckel and Lee Marvin
[Begins to cry]
Sam Baldwin: were sitting on top of this armored personnel carrier, dressed up like Nazis...
Greg: [Crying too] Stop, stop!
Sam Baldwin: And Trini Lopez...
Greg: Yes, Trini Lopez!
Sam Baldwin: He busted his neck while they were parachuting down behind the Nazi lines...
Greg: Stop.
Sam Baldwin: And Richard Jaeckel - at the beginning he had on this shiny helmet...
Greg: [Crying harder] Please no more. Oh God! I loved that movie.

I nearly mentioned it as well. Compared to other works it gets a bit too repetetive over time but only if you separate it from the movie context.

I always thought the movie excells in those scenes where music is absent. It is one of the few movies I have ever seen where the music
does not attempt to create suspense, but quite the opposite, it tells you to relax.

So glad they were able to wrestle the rights away from Anthony Quinn (as good as he was). Standout stars such as Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, James Colburn, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaughn and Eli Wallach as the heavy were all cool (not to mention the kid with his trying the clap test). All that and the music too.

BTW I liked the Guns of Navarone music and movie also. Saw it the first time in Waikiki (I was a kid in the Navy) when it first came out.

Yep, divorces tend to do that. I lost most of my personal mementos in 1978, book's, photos etc. Saved my fishing gear, guns and a few clothes. Naked beginning with my second wife.

I don't know to what extent people bother to listen to music that is recommended on these types of thread (I personally find them great sources of music I otherwise may never have heard of) but given some of the responses - Braveheart, The Mission, Last of the Mohicans etc) I would thoroughly recommend you give this a go.

This is an album by the Portugese composer Brunuhville. His music is described as a mix of Celtic, Gothic, Folk and Orchestral. As far as I know, the music from this album has never been used as a soundtrack...but it should be! Please give this a try. Some of the tracks are growers, but there are a number of "immediate" songs that are truly beautiful; Memories, Dragonland, The Nightingale, Vampire Tales, hell, there all so damn good!

I would be interested to know what people think
