Has anybody run the game on Windows 8?

I don't want to upgrade unless I know that WITPAE runs just fine. (i'll probably wait a while longer anyways)

WIN 8 is mainly for the touch screen world. If you don't have a touch screen it's a waste of money.

Many have noticed certain sequence with MS OS development:

Win 3.11: OK and innovative
Win 95: quite buggy and bad
Win 98: good
Win 2000: bad
Win XP: good
Win Vista: bad
Win 7: good
Win 8: ??

I disagree, after Win98SE came Windows ME (aka Win More Erros), wich was really the most bad window by know (besided WinXp 64Bit Version). Win2k was quite good afer release already, WinXP was quite bad just after release but become very good quite fast after release.

I just recently purchased a new computer with Windows 8. The game ran fine on Windows 7 but runs too slow on Windows 8. Scrolling is retarded and it takes 15 to 20 seconds to respond to a command.

Does anybody out there have a fix?

More information might help. Are you running the game full screen or windowed? What command line switches are you using?

Hi Dan,

The game comes up "windowed" (ie not full screen). Didn't know full screen was an option. What are command line switches?

Operated the game on my old ASUS w/windows 7 without problem.
New ASUS w/windows 8 has Intel CORE i7, 8GB, 64 bit, no touch screen.

Thanks!

There is no line switch command for full screen, only for windowed. Check if you got the -w switch in your command line, if not the game should
launch full screen.

Try to set the ingame resolution to the W8 desktop resolution, might also help.

Since I am not using W8 but just seen it work a couple of times, this is only guesswork.
W8 is a simplified touchscreen centered OS for smart phones and tabs and is only an annoyance on a full grown PC...

Thanks LoBaron,

The issue is really the speed of the game. On Windows 8 the game response time is just too slow to be playable.

I would try the -dd_sw command line switch to see if that fixes the lag issue. This will use software instead of hardware for direct draw functions.

This helped me tremendously playing on a very old laptop!
