Yeah! Some of us have feelings. I don't think Bif made a personal attack though. Side note, I would be honored
to play with John. I truly enjoy his perspective in regards to the IJN. I also have high regard for all JFBs
who play with continued enthusiasm "against the odds". In the beginning of "kaigun" right now, it is a fascinating
read. There is no question in my mind. Many, many variable outcomes regarding the IJN composition at the outbreak
of the Pacific war were possible due to the incredible dedication of Japans fledging naval officers. I look forward
to getting deeper into the volume to see how adaptable the IJN was or was not to the debacle at Midway. As I view
Midway as an intelligence coup of the highest magnitude, I wonder if any flag rank or other IJN officers even grasped
the degree they had been compromised. What possible outcomes would have emerged with a successful IJN operation at Midway?
How much time would it have bought? etc..

Thanks Zulu! Playing you would be a BLAST!

You will love Kaigun. Great Book. It became an essential element of my Master Thesis when it first came out. I assume you have read Shattered Sword and The First Team books?

Korea: The Fusan Perimeter

The Japanese Offensive in Korea stops with moderate gains and very few losses. The 8,000,000+ escorted Allied convoy arrives in the Theatre with TFs going into Shanghai and BUNCH coming to Genzan. Engineers have been digging all along the Fusan Line preparing the the inevitable Allied Offensive to capture all of Southern Korea. The troops will hold as long as possible and then be evacuated by sea back to the Home Islands. We'll use the Railroad on the eastern edge of the peninsula for as long as possible.

You can see my secondary Post of Kanko, North Korea. Troops and supplies for China have been pouring through there.

China Offensive

In China, the Japanese Offensive is gaining steam. We have a shallow as well as deep envelopment occurring:

RED: Suchow is the deeper target. Troops are about to take abandoned Kweitah and then advance onto Suchow. Total force here is currently 4 ID and 3 Brigades. As you can see, troops nearly surround the goal of this Offensive. There appear to be 2-3 beaten up Chinese Corps and 7-9 Support units in this area.

PINK: The shallow Tsinan Offensive carries more weight (8 ID, 1 Tank Div, 3 Brigades, and 4 Tank Regiments) and is working to surround the base and then ALL go in in an attempt to take the base and force a major surrender. Enemy has the 9th Aussie ID, a Chinese Corps, and a BUNCH of Artillery.

DARK RED: Allied moves going on. In the north, several beaten-up Chinese units are moving to cut the railroad. Two Japanese ID are moving to block that.

Tsingtao just fell to a group of 5 beaten-up/mauled Allied Infantry Divisions. That Tsingtao held for nearly two weeks against these dilapidated units speaks volumes for the condition of the Allied front-line units. The time holding has allowed the CHANCE to go after Tsinan.

YELLOW: These are groups of Japanese LCUs that have continued to occupy HUGE numbers of Allied units as they reduce and destroy the Japanese. This has been, as stated numerous times previously, by design. Keeping as many enemy units tied up for as long as possible has been fantastic.

The enemy has all his toys back and is using them.

KEIJO
This capital city is shattered during the night as the mighty New Jersey and Iowa pound the city and AF like vengeful gods.

MOPPO
Fighting thru MTB/PT/Midgets, the USS Missouri and company CRUSH the AF at here.

Evidently...the Allies only have NEW Battleship toys to play with...

Home Islands

In any form of numbers, the B-29 has not been seen in nearly a month-and-a-half. It has been a pleasant development. Not so this day. The B-29 returns to attack Iwaki, Hamamatsu, and Toyama:

Iwaki 36 Fighters attack successive waves of 25, 15, 6 -29. The defense is stout and no damage is taken.

Hamamatsu 41 Fighters (mainly A7M2-J) take on waves of 17 and 10 -29. The A7M2-J BLAST nearly a dozen of these bombers from the sky. Wow. Guess those upward cannons can be very effective! About time...

Major damage is done to a Grace Factory (25 Points) and a slight amount (2 points) to a Frank Factory. First time he has actually done some damage to my aircraft industry.

Toyama 9 F vs 12 -29 shows a farce in the action. The Japanese Fighters are PETES! They damage four -29 and most cannot catch up to the bombers whatsoever. A total of 41 Resources are destroyed here.

Quick math reveals 85 B-29 used for these varied attacks. They take serious casualties...

The enemy loses 30 B-29 in the attacks. Casualties for the day amount to 35% of the planes committed. He didn't even hit one of my main fighter bases. Bodes reasonably well.

Most of my Fighter losses this turn comes from the two bombardments and a batch of Fighter Sweeps over Nagasaki.

THIRD turn of the day is a wild one!

I have deployed 16 SS to the West Coast and the sea between Australia and New Guinea. We'll consider this a victory if we sink as many Allied wessels as how many SS are sunk in return.

This turn is one-for-one:

I-21 severely damaged by 2 DE on the West Coast.
I-186 sinks LST-799 at Taberfane

2 cents here
He is using the B29s wrong if he is hitting different targets with his smallish fleet of them now. I sent upwards of 600 at the
same target and got some spectacular results, overwhelming the fighter cover and having 7-8 waves hit the target. After
the first several waves start the fires and wear out the CAP, some of the stragglers, even 4-7 planes escalate the fires to the
400,ooo-500,ooo levels.

Incorrect. Burnside was relieved after the "Mud March", and Hooker was not relieved until three days before Gettysburg. Maybe a better example would be Churchill after Gallipoli?

The Home Islands and Fusan

The Allies have been quiet and fairly one dimensional over the last month. The arrival of the ENTIRE Fleet is rapidly changing that and the tempo is picking up again. It is a day of aerial combat that hasn't been seen since the 1.0x10^6 tried to take out Kyushu's fighter force by itself.

We stand pretty tall today.

Summary:
NIGHT COMBAT
Fukuoka
A defense force of 24 NF take on waves of Allied aircraft attacking the hex. The waves consist of 12 B-24, 13 A-20, and then several penny packets of B-25 equaling 33 total planes. There is little rhyme or reason in the attacks. The total for the assaults ends up being 1 Manpower, 1 Resources, and 545 Fires. The NF are up for every wave and do fairly well causing trouble.

Takamatsu
Just 4 NF take on two small waves of B-29 (3 and then 6). For the loss of several they accomplish 5 Manpower and 1260 Fires.

Chinhae
Six NF fight 3 B-29 and shot down one for no damage to the base.

DAY COMBAT
Nagasaki
Fighter Sweeps here with no bombing.

Fusan
You shake your fist at the world sometimes and I am sure Dan does that this day. He has B-24 on the attack and they do BEFORE EIGHT Fighter Sweeps. Two waves of 18 and 8 B-24 run into 116 Fighters. They are slaughtered! Fun to watch.

The Afternoon gets the Fighters in the fray with sweeps of 36 F4U, 16 Spitfires, 16 Spitfires, 16 P-51, 24 P-51, 25 P-47, 25 P-51, and 37 F4U. These numerous sweeps come in at 34,000 Ft and fight 169 mixed Japanese Fighters. The Allies inflict serious casualties but take solid damage as well.

The dust settles. Japan moves in 200+ fresh fighters to await tomorrow...

I truly wish I had not committed to four days of USELESS Kami/Attack Missions. Lost nearly 1,000 planes with half of them being fighters. Now...my pools are drawn down somewhat and my boys are really tired.

I have detailed how Japan has left behind groups of troops to occupy a huge number of Allies for as long as possible. Hankow is a prime example of using way TOO many troops for an simple target behind the lines. So....while Japan threatens several major Allied bases heading to Manchuria, here is an example of what I am talking about:

Air Battle

The Allies bombard Moppo, Keijo, and Pt Arthur. Port Arthur hurts!

Night Attacks on Tientsin with 6 B-29, Nagasaki 9 B-24, and Toyama with 8 B-25

Day Fights:
Shikoku sees 19 B-29 hitting 14 Oil
Toyama gets 5 B-29 getting 9 Resources
Toyohara is hit by 20 B-29 crushing 85 Resources
Moppo sees 6 B-24 getting jumped by 14 Tony-100

The big fight, again, is over Fusan where the American CVs jump into the fray.
AM Phase
159 Fighters vs 36 F4U, 23 F4U, 20 P-47, 24 P-51, 86 F4U, 43 P-51, and 25 P-51
PM Phase
52 Fighters vs 20 P-51

If you look at losses, the exchange is fairly even for the day. I had layered, low CAP that worked fairly well. Have got to say that the P-51 is not really too scary of aircraft. Hate the damned P-47s though!

The bombardments made the difference on the day. Pt Arthur cost nearly 50 airframes. Crap.

John I have been told if you set your training squadrons to range 0 it will reduce their fatigue and this ops loses. This could be incorrect though
