Are there other HRs, like restrictions on bombing ground troops or ships?

4EB may bomb any LCUs that are at a base of any sort. The original was way too restrictive so we modified it to that. ANYTHING at a base is fair game.

Even losing all your carries including the first batch of CVEs and most of you navy you can recover as the allies.

Its very hard to do so imo.

Np here and move on,

Yep: Michael is right that the Allied Player actually get MORE of these NASTY--EVIL--fighters the IRL.

With all due respect to the posters, CR raised a point that seems to be completely overlooked. This should be a matter of arithmetic. Surely it is possible to calculate what total number of fighters should have been produced by this date, and compare that with fighters on hand plus losses. If what CR says is right, you will find a disconnect in the quantity of P-39's at least.

As Dan cant see stuff here and i dont crosspost posts, i dont particular like post this as he cant read it. Any how I offered Dan to check his planes pools/producution against what he "suppose" to get. Because of the outside of game issues that John mentions earlier it has been put off until such a time when Dan has time/desire again but he knows my offer stands. Knowing such isnt Dan forte.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

Not really.

OZ > New Guinea > Molluccas > Celebes > PI.

I'm not so completely inept that this was just bad play from the Japanese side. The Allies have better quality everything, and when concentrated in one area and used to maximum potential, as Jocke did very well, its not at all impossible to advance without CVs until late 43. There were a few days when things were very much in flux and could have gone either way, but in this case they went for the Allies. Hats off to him, but I've seen this in other games as well. If it's a Scen 1 game it's entirely possible for the Allies to deal with these losses to CVs. Tougher in Scen 2 or another similar mod.

Obvert: Didn't you have sync bug issues as well?

As stated earlier and as Capt Harlock points out, my chief concern here is to make sure there is no Mod-related issue here that further worsens an already bad situation for Dan. It would be fixable but I think Dan is at a points of no return with members of the forum and his AAR.

Just throwing my hat around, if your ready John for an allied player of no particular fame ready to put your feet in a fire, I stand ready when I finish my current game which should conclude by February 2016, provided I have not contracted a fatal disease, been subjected to a hideous car wreck, or get abducted by Angelina Jolie. Actually , if it's the car wreck scenario, and I still have a head and some fingers, I probably would still do it.

By Feb 2016? Wow. That is pretty fast. I'll have to get out my appointment book to see what I have open at that point!

I've got to say this Massed Rain Storm we are getting is frightening. We're good in La Salle but the pictures of the mountains, Fort Collins, Lyons, and Boulder are CRAZY. There are places that have gotten a full YEAR'S worth of rain in four days.

Good thoughts to my fellow state residents...

We had a few but nothing unusual or continuing. Not sure how this applies though. The big early battles were not affected.

Does he really think that is an excuse? He needs to be working on the R.A. 6.0 mod and getting it fixed and ready to play.

Well...one DOES have to have some PRIORITIES!

HOLY CATS Gang. The Platte River is normal about deep enough for a 2 year-old to get across at this time of the year. NOT NOW! As Michael said the river is about 1/2 a mile from us and, thankfully, we sit on a bluff about 40-50 Ft above the height of the river. The river is now fully 800+ Yards across and it is all MOVING fast. We've lost about 12-24 homes near or in town. Paula and I went for a walk and will Post some pictures. We're in no real danger at this point but it is an amazing and terrifying display of Mother Nature.

Lost power for about 3-4 hours but it is back for the moment. We'll see how long that lasts.

Once dinner is done we'll Post pics....

Here are my 2 cents...

I'm playing RA (I think 5.0 but I can't remember) as the Allies in my game against Rev Rico and I have to say that the fighter pools are fine. I'm able to make up for the lack of fighter planes with careful management of pilots and frames to maximize their effectiveness. While I can't fill out all my squadrons, I'm able to keep the front line units stocked with frames and am able to put up a fight.

As people have correctly pointed out, Dan was just way too aggressive. I remember thinking when he started the whole Sumatra campaign that he was crazy...you just don't do stuff like that in 1942. He needed to stick to his guns which are 4E, supply, engineers, and fight you where those give him those advantages. Sumatra is NOT that place. Too big and too many bases for you to counterattack from. And lastly, the idea of putting all your fighters in Sabang is INSANE! When I saw Dan say he was going to do that I could already tell it could not end well. Open terrain and no supporting bases. You could simply overpower him with a combination of sweeps and naval bombardment and then just destroy EVERY air frame that gets stuck damaged in the base. And honestly a player who is willing to subject his fighters to such punishment deserves to have low air frames...which is why I never do things like that. AFBs need to leverage all their fighter pools in 1942 for TRAINING not for FIGHTING. 1942 is about getting ready for the fights later on by building up bases, training pilots, and sometimes pushing back the Japanese when they get too frisky. It's not about bringing the fight to Japan in big battlefieds.

Anyway, nicely done. Even if he comes back to continue the game you'll have no problem crushing Sabang.

Thanks guys.

Looks like things are improving (but it is starting to rain again). We kept power all night and day so that helped a bunch.

They re-opened Highway 85 this afternoon and so traffic is moving as well as access to the hospital, grocery stores, etc...

Damage is pretty horrific. My little town has had about 40-50 house destroyed/flooded. Farms trashed, the railroad bridge is gone, about 5,000 people evacuated just north of us in Evans. We have pictures and I'll Post them in the General Forum Thread.

I am not sure if he Posted it over in his thread but Dan's Father died today. He has alot to do and expressed concerns regarding whether or not to restart our match. I wrote the following:

Dan,

My heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Been there and done this in the recent past. Best wishes for all you have to do. I am well familiar coordinating a funeral with lots of family and friends to be thought of.

You take care of what you have to do. My Father’s loss hits me at the weirdest times. We decided to watch the original True Grit a couple of days ago. Sounded great. One of my favorites and then I realized it was one of Dad’s. Made me depressed as the movie went on. Sad but real story.

To HELL (pardon my French) with our game. Work on you situation and we can talk whenever you are ready. I’ll work to get 6.0 released and deal with our real life issues here. Check out the Thread I am about to start with pictures of this horrific flood. We got pretty darned lucky...

Warmly and, as always, your friend.
John

I have invited Dan to read the AAR if he wishes.

Want to thank all the readers and contributors to this game. REALLY appreciate you thoughts, support and comments.

Don't worry though---we be BACK with an RA 6.0 AAR sometime soon....

Dan isn't crazy. He, like Castor Troy, has shown repeatedly that the game does allow for successful aggressive moves in '42 by a skilled Allied player. The caveat here is that both have proven that in stock scenarios. He just bit off more than he could chew by assuming he could do the same in this mod. Dan is and will continue to remain one of the most respected Allied players here, at least amongst us AFBs. If his reputation has been tarnished, it is with the JFBs who perceived his complaints about the pools to be whining.

Dan is an excellent player who is first and foremost a Gentleman.

Simple reality is that he bit off FAAAAR more then he could chew. He didn't go far enough in his Sumatra Gambit. Should have gone far farther and never allowed me to get back into the match. He has me dead-to-rights but then blinked. As stated back at the time of hte landing I immediately saw the chance for opportunity and it was going to result in a massive Allied Surrender in Mar--April 1943.

I'm tired of the Mod comments Hans. This Mod is no where near Scenario 2. Sits pretty firmly between 1 and 2. Think that has been pretty well settled in the RA 6.0 Fact--Fiction Thread.

In ANY GAME an Allied Player staging late-1942 massed invasion faces the chance for great glory or great disaster. This would have ended in disaster.

I applaud Dan's work and his attempt to swing for the fences. Had he included Palembang, Singers, or Java the plan would have won the war for the Allies.

John,

I'm curious what your plans are, are you going to take 6.0 out for a spin now? Do another AAR with it (hopefully)?

Any way you and CR are BOTH good and wise teachers. When you were kind enough to ask my opinion on the aircraft pools, I gave it some thought and now after reading HansBolter's answer to Sangeli. I would like to modify my answer...

A lot of the battle locations are determined by the players action plans, I consider John3rd a superior tactician and while it is true that the Japanese have superiority in 1942, even John cannot cover everything - and that is where players like CR show thier brilliance. The moves CR made were copied and repreated by many including me in my PBEM game. For instance in my case it was blunting and then repelling the Jap advance in Burma using mostly British and Aussie aircraft & troops and chasing LarryF back down to the peninsula, the cost to me was the USN exposing itself by hitting bases in the Sothern Pacific mostly to keep LarryF from rushing everything over to Burma to take it back. So far I'm successfully attacking but bogging down in the jungles and losing some Burma/British troops to withdrawl is going to make it dicey for a while, until I can reinforce.

It's all Risk/Reward as always but CR literally threw the kitchen sink at John game wise, just a tad too early IMHO. That he nearly pulled it off is quite impressive and the SRA is the key to the war is true, but where and when to strike are the vital marks to watch. I really enjoyed following the match and hope to see them both soon on these pages shortly.

PS - How is the flooding in CO now? The story dropped off the face of the national news so we could see stupid things like Emmy memorial controversies... (groan...)
