Next week I will be visiting the Air Force museum in Ohio. I took a look at the online version and only two Japanese planes spotted in a few minutes of looking.

Got my first turn off to Dan since getting back. Did August 28th where I took back that little speck--Taongi--between Wake and Kwajalein. Destroyed frgaments of the 7th ID and a Base Force along with several PBY. Scratch that as an air search base. Kido Butai retires towards Rabaul.

Man--the trip really took it out of me. I was SO tired yesterday and then worked an 11 hour shift on top of it. My eldest (John--12) had his 6th Grade concert last night so we did that, went to Sonic for cheap shakes, and came home whereupon I collapsed into a coma!

Thanks for the B-Day Wishes. A completely sobering B-Day. How the HELL am I 50? Stupid. My DELIGHTFUL wife was all excited to get the mail when I came home. Asked why and she responded that maybe my AARP Card was waiting and we could begin to use it. Another example of PURE EVIL.

I haven't been to the Air Force national Museum at Wright-Patterson in several years, but two Japanese aircraft is what i remember being there. However, they have many early war American planes that are featured in WitPAE, so it is well worth it.

Happy birthday John. For some reason, 50 did not seem like a big deal to me, nor the ones up to 57. Can´t explain the difference, but 57 made me quake!

I thoroughly understand that sentiment.

The Ohio Air Force Museum I remember to be monstrous.

Wright-Patterson? Hmmm...may have to look at that.

Where is the CONFEDERATE Air Force located at now? YES--I know they changed their name but that was stupid to do. Will always see it as that name...

The headquarters were/are moving to Dallas. It only serves as a sort of an umbrella organization tho, the squadrons (planes) are spread out all over the place. I went to a CAF airshow in Midland once. I don't know if they still do that.

I remember when the AARP were for those 60 and above, then it creeped down to 55 now they badger 49 year olds. In another decade will they be bothering 39 year olds? When do the people at AARP think Americans retire?

Just sent the September 1, 1943 turn to Dan.

Am trying to do a quick cycle of ALL my game turns.

QUERY: If you are going to build them, Tony 1b or Tony 1c?

Tony IB upgrades to the Id.

Tony Ic upgrades to the Id.

Right? Ic has wing mounted cannons I recall so it is a slightly better antibomber plane.

You have to tell us how you want to use them?

Using for point defense over bases and AF.

September 1, 1943

...and I thought the Allies and Japanese were going to be friends in the Marshalls. NOT! Dan lands with the 201st (Sep) Inf Reg, two smaller Inf units (one Canadian), and several other minor units at Kwajalein. The assault arrives with two Amphib TF using BB Colorado and BB West Virginia for protective bombardment. Add BBs Idaho and Tennessee for additional punch and it came as a very rude surprise. The Amphib TF get roughed up pretty decently by my CD (BB West Virginia took 11 hits and was burning on the last animation). The landing don't cause high casualties on either side so things LOOKED pretty hopeful. The bombardment by Tenn and Idaho was TERRIBLE though: 1303 Cas and a crapload of hits on the AF/Pt. Sinks I-182 who was damaged by DC when the TFs moved into the hex and disbanded into the port. Looks pretty bad.

NOT!

The assault phase goes and I am shocked to see the Allies score a 1-2 result (look at this adjusted AV--Allies 8 Japan 14). I laughed when I saw the numbers! The 2nd Maizuru Assault Brigade is beat down but the Allies are worse. Net result from the 1-2? Allies lose 1303 Men (out of 6,000) and a bunch of artillery and vehicles. Forts stay at 6.

ORDERS
1. CVEs were at Wake. They move towards Eniwetok.
2. Vc-Adm Tanaka and his 4 Ladies depart Saipan for Eniwetok.
3. Move a large Judy Daitai along with a Tojo Sentai to Eniwetok. Set attack ranges to 8 (in case he lands at Roi Namur).
4. Evac Japanese Planes at Kwajalein.

John, I cannot comment much because I am reading both AARs, but I have to agree that the result of the attack was... unexpected. Best of lucks to you!

I like the Ki-61-Ic best, because the cost for replacing the two machineguns with two cannon is only one point of maneuver at the three lowest altitude bands. Since you are going to use them in a defensive role, the added penetration from the cannon will be useful. That being said, if you invested heavily in Ki-61-Ia R&D, it might be that the Ib model is economically better, as R&D factories can jump Ia -> Ib -> Id. If you invested in Ic R&D factories, the opposite would be true.

Just my 2 cents.

We're headed for the -d. I like the cannons as well on the 1c as well.

Am expecting the Frank to advance again fairly soon. I am targeting 250+ a month. Right now it comes in December but I think we'll see it in October. I have a bunch of factories researching this plane and plan to switch half of them over to the next model once we're within a week or two of production.

Bet Dan was as stunned as I was! His BBs gonna have to leave and reload. Doubt if they wil score that massive result again.

No action at Kwajalein at all. The SNLF Assault Brigade there had its disruption drop from 90% down to 70%. Definite progress.

Dan spots my CVEs approaching. Tanaka is not spotted.

Orders:
1. Using 27 Tina I pull the remains of an Air Flotilla off Kwajalein and then bring in 36 Topsy to start flying in the 56th ID from Ponape. There is no LRCAP flying over Kwajalein so my Tina's didn't get molested. This is why I add the Topsy to the effort.

2. Two SS ML load up 80 mines and depart Truk for Kwajalein.

3. Order CVE Strike Planes as well as Judy Daitai to attack into the sea around Kwajalein. Fly in 42 Tojo to go with the 48 George at Roi Namur. They will Sweep over Kwajalein--hopefully softening up any aircraft that Dan might order over the base tomorrow.

Here are the units on Kwajalein:

What is the starting AV and makeup of one of the assault brigades? Is it 3 x naval guards? What kind of combat strength is left now?

In my experience, failing to take down a level 6 fort upon landing on an atoll for the Allies is a recipe for a very long and protracted battle. Get whatever reinforcements you can get the to the island and make the Allies have to land more units. Kwajalein is also a very important naval base in the region giving it strategic value as well.
