Many of players of this game use English.
But, I use Japanese.

This is Japanese people vs Japanese people AAR.

I spent several months reading a manual.
The barrier of language is large.
Therefore, a game is a beginner.
However, probably, we are looking at the thing different from you.
Those who are interested in Japan can enjoy themselves.

(About one month before)
I invited the English player by the forum. but, It became impossible however, to contact him. Then, I looked for Japanese people.
It became unnecessary for me to worry about language.

Tomomo(J) vs Mr. J(A)

HR
-no 4E bombing below 10,000ft
-no strategic bombing before 1943
-pay political points to move units (India/ Burma / China / Manchukuo)
- "nothing [R]unit" can move free.
-dont use air HQs for land units.
-Max altitude of CAP and Sweep and BomBing is say 30,000 (Free after 7/1/1943)
-Don't strategic bombing(Free after 1/1/1943)
-Dont night bombing below 10,000 feet. (It is only Ground target. Can attack TF below 10,000 feet)
-Dont build fortification at Palembang,Miri,Balikpapan before 1942.
Finally, I asked of him.
It wants without putting large military power on Palembang.
This is a handicap for beginners.
He was experienced in PBEM.
I am inexperienced.

I use a lot of timein order to write English texts
Next time, War is start

"Did you know?"
Japanese Engine name is Ha-xx.
What mean Ha?
It is hatudouki
hatudouki = Engine
So ha-35 is mean engine Number 35.
However, Engine name is different in navy and army.
Army name Ha-25(ha-35)
Navy name sakae-12
Navy and Army have very bad relations.
It is worse than now USA.

Great! I look forward to your most interesting After Action Report, tomomo 1996! I welcome your interpretation of Japanese in this game as well.

ETA: My copy of your Japanese text didn't turn out either. Apologies.

Welcome to the forum tomomo1996!
The game is very challenging even without the language difficulties, so you can get a lot of help from readers by asking about what is puzzling you.
You can also send a Private Message [PM] to those who know Japanese to get help in your own language.

You asked about the meaning of "Ha" in the engine name. I have always assumed it was an abbreviation [short form] for the name of the company that builds it - just as "Ki" is short for Kawanishi in the aircraft designations.
In US aircraft designations the first letter is more for the type of aircraft, and not about the company that builds it:
"B" is for bomber
"P" is for pursuit, the army word for fighter aircraft before the war
"PBY" is for patrol bomber, I am not sure the meaning of the "Y"
"DB" is for dive bomber
"SB" is for scout bomber
and so on. Ask if there are any more puzzling abbreviations and acronyms [short forms using the first letter of several words]
You must be able to distinguish between acronyms such as AMC [armed merchant cruiser], ACM [Auxiliary cruiser, mine] and AMc [Auxiliary, mine, coastal].
Good luck!

Thank you all.
I am not yet used to the usage of the forum. I am sorry if I do a wrong thing. It comes from the inconvenience of the language.
"Mr. J" is a fictitious name. Becouse I don't know his forum name.

First week
12/7/1941 to 12/13

Pacific:
I struck Pearl Harbor four times. I intended to attack it three times, but made mistake of instructions of the movement. I made a big mistake. I lost many pilots. The battleship which sank is four ships. It was all the first day.

Phillipines:
I adopt the orthodox tactics to attack Luzon from the north and south. The enemy does not escape. The enemy puts many army unit in the front line.

Singapore(Malaya):
HMS Repulse sank. I bombed Singapore after it. I lost many pilots it. The enemy does not escape. The enemy puts many army unit in the front line too. I decided to attack it from the land with large military power. Becouse, HMS Prince of Wale does not sink. It is dangerous to attack Palembang. I demanded the reinforcement of the battleship.

I lost many pilots and airplanes in the first one week. In this game, Japan did the bad miss suddenly. I am more incompetent than the commander of 70 years ago. Although I know history. What will happen henceforth?

"Did you know?"
Hitler say "The Japanese army and the Japanese navy are opposing?" (Probably, it is a fabrication.)
Becouse, the army and the navy purchased DB600 separately.
Of course Japanese paid licencing fee twice.
why...(Japan was not able to make a lot of engines in one company. Therefore Japan seemed to do a stupid thing to buy two.)
There are aichi ha-60(navy) and kawasaki ha-60(army) in this game.
Besides, both have a lot of engine trouble.
sad...

Ouch! Losing those carrier aircraft and pilots so early will hurt the power of Kido Butai.
Do not be too upset about making mistakes. This is a very big game with many things to remember, and everyone forgets something. A new player should expect to make many mistakes which will help him learn what NOT to do.

You should ask about how to use your aircraft when you are planning a large attack, such as on Singapore or Clark Field. If you put all of your fighter aircraft on "escort" setting, they will not be very effective. Before attacking with bombers you must send some fighters on high altitude "sweep" setting to clear enemy fighters before the bombers arrive. Only a few fighters are needed to escort the bombers.

Very few people in North America or Europe would know about the Japanese problems with ordering aircraft engines. Thank you for telling us!
I hope you can tell us more about the Japanese WWII war effort during your game.

I am glad for many people reading. Thank you for reading my poor English. Is my English understood?

At my university, I needed English of eight credits for graduation.
I took the English lecture 16 times. lol
I lost eight credits ...
I did not think to study English again for playing game.

Now, this game is already 42 years. Therefore, I write AAR slowly, using a dictionary.

12/14/ to 12/20
Singapore(Malaya):
My enemy put the large force on Alor Star. However, it was failure. because I decided to push by power from land. I surrounded Alor Star. It is typical pincer movement. He knew that I was a beginner. Therefore, possibly he thought that he could fight by the front line. And I get to know that he failed in withdrawal, and I change strategy. I thought that I would send 33rd Div to Djambi. I sent it to Mersing. I used four BBs for the escort.
Enemy's TF is coming near Kuching. I surmised that he attacked miri. I evacuate the transportation TF.

12/16
Ground combat at Alor Star (49,73)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 12251 troops, 107 guns, 172 vehicles, Assault Value = 479

Defending force 5492 troops, 78 guns, 47 vehicles, Assault Value = 223

Japanese engineers reduce fortifications to 0

Japanese adjusted assault: 565

Allied adjusted defense: 45

Japanese assault odds: 12 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Alor Star !!!

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
Blenheim I: 1 destroyed

Combat modifiers

Thank you BBfanboy!

I fought with A.I.
However, I did not know that CAP was strong.
Now, I am fighting carefully.
I use a lot of SWEEP and Escort.

Your English is good and we have no trouble understanding you. You will find that you need your dictionary less as you will use the same words over and over to describe the action in your game.
Well done at Alor Star!

:China
Hong Kong was occupied.
and I concentrated military power. Two big holes opened in the central battle line. The enemy had 10,000 or more casualties. Other battle lines are fought focusing on defense.

Phillipines:
I am attacking Luzon. I progressed to SanFernando in the north battle line. and I progressed to Atimonan in the southern battle line.

12/14/ to 12/20(3)

Pacific:
Before an enemy makes preparation, I attack. Escort is insufficient. However, I extended the occupied territory, escaping somehow. I do not fear failure. I sent the unit into canton and occupied.
The unit who occupied Guam aims at Wake. (144th infantry reg)

Do you Know?
144th infantry reg has sad history. They are the units of Kochi Prefecture. People of Kochi are drinkers. However, they also lose them foods, not to mention alcohol. They aimed at Port Moresby with other units. but, operation was stopped. They were hungry on the mountain of New Guinea. If you want to know a continuation, please investigate Battle of Buna-Gona.
Let's stop the sad talk and I need to talk about Kochi. Kochi is located in the south in Shikoku. "katuo no tataki" is famous local dish in kochi. Japanese sake goes well with "katuo no tataki". So they are drinking a lot of sake.

I have had some wonderful beef and bison tataki at sushi restaurants. And good sake is very easy to drink, but quite expensive in Canada!

Battle of miri

12/23
I suffered big damage.

December 21.
I let a fleet go out of miri on December 21.
The reaction of the enemy TF disappeared.
I thought that the enemy ran away to Palembang.
Therefore I sent CAs to Palembang, but there was not the enemy.

December 22.
My TF come back and unlording at miri.

December 23.
Then, there was the surprise attack of the enemy TF.

I lost many transport ships.
He is the excellent commander.

Do you know:
12/23 is a holiday.
The Emperor's Birthday.
It is as important a day as the same as your Christmas for Japanese.
However, it is not such a big event that you think.
It is because it does not advertize by company being afraid.

In Japan, We also deify an overseas event.
The festival in the world is in Japan.
Christmas is not the exception, either.
Japan is strange.
Most was able to be begun in order that companys might sell goods.
Japan does not have Ramadan because food cannot be sold.
Since sweets are eaten, Halloween is performed.
Chocolate is eaten St Valentine's Day.
lol

I have not eaten a turkey.
Turkey don't live in Japan.
The chicken of Kentucky (KFC) is eaten instead.
I am a new Japanese who hates procession.
Therefore, I ate not KFC but a cheap chicken.

Moreover, a child and a woman get a present.
I was also deprived of money and goods by many women.
What does Jesus think, seeing Japan? I am worried.

You had bad luck at Miri - you guessed wrong and he damaged your plans. But you have learned from this that you should protect the landing ships with your cruisers instead of chasing ghosts! Now you must consider where his DDs can go to reload ammunition. Manila is a good port for him, but you should be bombing it almost every day now. I don't think Palembang is able to reload his torpedos, except if he moved an AD or an AKE there. He may send the DDs to Singapore or Batavia. See if you can intercept them before they get to port.

You are wise not to eat the fried foods that are served by many restaurants from North America. Too much of it is bad for your health. Traditional Japanese food is much better for you.

North America is where our commercial stores press us most strongly to buy gifts and candy for each other. They do not stop with children and women, but also men and pets! Many people over-spend their available money and spend months paying off their credit card charges. It is all too much commercial, and I have no more room in my apartment for things. I told my family not to buy me things unless I can use them up - theatre tickets or Scotch, etc. I am also donating more to charity rather than buying gifts for those who do not need anything.

As for Jesus, I think He will judge on how kind we are to those in need and forgive us the excesses we do to please people we love. I know Japan has many problems right now, especially since the tsunami and earthquake. I hope people are still being generous to those who lost their homes and all their possessions.

Probably DDs returned to Batavia.
I think that DDs moved clockwise.
I stopped an attack and used CAs for defense.

It is sad that the heart separates, although all commercial things are not bad.
But it may be good if many people are fortunate at it.

I was poor last year, I had charity for people of Fukushima.
My happiness is also important, I would like to strive to divide a little it into others.

Phillipines:
The Luzon battle line is as planned.

I made a big mistake in Mindanao.
The base which had placed supply went over to the enemy. omg.
There was too little military power.
I have to issue reinforcement.

But, the enemy sent reinforcement to Singapore from sea.
Therefore, I postpone Burma.

12/21/ to 12/31(2)

Pacific:
I failed in the attack to Wake.
It succeeded in landing of 144th infantry.
However, the enemy's did not surrender.
When I tried to have sent reinforcement, the enemy's aircraft carriers were!!
I escape reinforcement.
144th infantry reg will be troubled by food also in this game.

I occupied Rabaul on December 31.

Kido Butai:
KB is in yokosuka.
KB must recruit airplanes and pilots.
Since damage of Pearl Harbor was too serious.
Therefore miniKB joined KB.

Do you know:
My dinner of today was curry and rice.
Curry and rice are popular food in Yokosuka which KB is staying now.
The curry and rice has history in the Japan Navy.
Curry and rice are eaten since Russo-Japanese War in Japan Navy.
Even now, curry is eaten on Friday in the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force every week.
They are fighting for peace of Japan and "curry and rice".
It has a taste of a secret in each warship.
They are top secret.
Although written somewhat exaggeratedly, they are all facts.

Of course, curry rice is a dish which is popular also at home.
99.99% of Japanese people love curry and rice.
I until now have not seen the Japanese who hates curry and rice.

Westerners usually think of the food of India when they think of curry. It is interesting to know that it is also popular in Japan.
I ate very well last night at Christmas dinner - a traditional family feast. We had turkey, with a stuffing made of bread cubes with celery, onions and spices. There was also potatos, sweet potatos (yams), Swedish (beef) meat balls, peas, cranberry sauce and gravy. As you can see, not much green vegetables at this feast, so we will have to eat more of them for the rest of the week.

Hi,
What meat is that in your curry? I know you guys eat a lot of beef, have you tried lamb? I highly recommend it in the curry. Also venison if you can get it.
Also how hot is your curry? English hot ? Or Indian hot ?
My brother's best friend is a linguist who is fluent in 13 languages and he taught language in Japan for 20 -30 years or so. Sorry, I don't happen to know which University. He currently lives in Nepal and has a Japanese wife.

Try this.
You like.
Salt, cayenne and hot sauce to taste, of course. If I recall correctly, Japanese people tend to have low or normal blood pressure. I don't add salt to anything unless I'm making pasta.

Also use only yellow or red onions. Spanish onions would be the best.

Oh, and when he says one tablespoon black pepper he means freshly ground, of course. I'd use a lot more than that myself, but I'm an addict.

Oh, and when he says 1/2 cup green onions chopped, I think he means shallots. edit: excuse me, I mean scallions.

Oh, and substitute olive oil for the butter. That's just nuts, but that's Emeril.

Oh, and the parsley, don't use that stuff we use as a garnish, use Italian parsley. Substitute Cilantro if you like, but a lot of people don't (it tastes like soap).

Men have twice the density of taste buds than what women have, yet we let them do most of the cooking.

Tomomo-san: Thanks for writing this AAR. Your English is quite good. Also, the Japanese tidbits are interesting. Ganbatte kudasai.

I used to live in Chofu and there was a curry restaurant near the station. I remember putting 400 yen into a vending machine to get a chit and then giving it to the cook. Tonkatsu curry was the best (i.e. veal cutlet and curry). And just so you guys know, curry in Japan and Korea is quite a bit different than Thai or Indian curry. It's a lot less spicy, for one.

Cheers,
CC
