I read the instructions that said the resupply ships convert gas to fuel so their a kind of mobile fuel point. But even when I move them to a gas cloud, one that even has a working gas mine for fuel, they dont do anything. On auto they just wander about :-(

Help for noob please

P.S also only got 1 ship (which I found drifting) that has the ability to bombard planets. Design on full auto. Why has none of the oetehr ships got this ability?

Ok..about the supply ship you have to give it the deploy order and where you deploy it you have to make sure it has the requesite fuels[see what reactor type you are using and that tells you what your fuel is [either caslon or hydrogen] or both depending on if you have a mixed fleet[different ship types and fuels]
On the bombard question you have to have the right sort of ship weapons[some will and some won't] to bombard planets as well as having that option enabled correctly[in the Empire policy section].If you want that ability you need to design ships with that capacity.

I have had trouble deploying resupply ships at gas clouds, have you tried gas giant planets? Select the resupply ship, go to an appropriate gas giant with calson or hydrogen, right click it and chose the deploy option.

When trying to deploy resupply ships at gas clouds, the default command for right click is patrol if I remember correctly. This can be bypassed by pressing the control-key while right-clicking on the cloud with the supply ship selected. That way you get a menu which contains the deploy-command. Control-key also helps in a number of other situations where the commands cant be accessed directly.

I occasionally have a problem getting deployments at clouds, the deploy option is not listed.

Never a problem at planets.

I have never had a problem at clouds, but I have not played a massive amounts of games. I have deployed them a lot of times, though.

I think the pitfall is to realize that there is a gas system, and a gas cloud inside that system. You can not deploy on the system level, of course. So locate the system, close in a bit, make sure you click the cloud (have it targeted), then select your resupply ships and control-right click wherever successfully selected the cloud. Then select deploy from the list. If there is no deploy option you have probably right clicked the system level.

This should be no problem at all as long as you zoom in before right clicking, just like one has to do to hit a gas giant (but the cloud is of course much larger).

And don't have the supply ship in a fleet - at a certain point the fleet will need to refuel, and then the fleet will automatically go to refuel - but not on the supply ship - the supply ship will undeploy and join the refueling fleet.

Could probably be considered a bug that...

the resupply ship shouldn't be part of a fleet. Ofcourse the resupply ship will undeploy and follow the fleet to refuel because it is a fleet order.
You should handle a Resupply ship as mobile Gas Mining base, move and deploy it in a forward area, not as part of the fighting fleet.

I usually use them as super-Capital warships in late-game with Colossal construction - with it Resupply ships become the largest ships possible. Even with 40% of size made of cargo bays and so, it's possible to fill them with megatons of weapons, Death Rays/Superlasers, impregnable amount of forceshields, extremely thick armor and even some fighter bays. Ability to refuel is just a nice little bonus.

It isn't an instantaneous deployment[takes awhile] but when done correctly a supply ship will deploy and stay deployed as long as you control it yourself. If you turn control back over to the AI then it will undeploy.I've put them in gas clouds and gas planets everywhere with no problems so I'm not sure where you're having your troubles starbuck310
I just re-read your original statement on this and the key word in it was "auto"!Try deploying the supply ship manually and get back here with the results!

The reactor decides which fuel is used. In the design screen, look in the upper right area. The game got two fuels, caslon and hydrogen.

It is generally a good idea to have only one type of fuel in a fleet. Deploy your resupply ship in a good source of your fleet's chosen fuel, and preferably also a source where there is none/little of the other fuel.

Move the resupply ship to gas cloud. With it selected, try control-right-click on the cloud, and you should see deploy option high in the list.

If there is no deploy, make sure you got the cloud and not the system selected. Try see what happens if you click (left) the spot you right clicked. You need the colored cloud inside the system, not the system itself.

This is probably a no brainer but your not asking it to deploy while it is already deployed are you? That fits with everything I have read here, if you look on the display panel for the ship look for the word DEPLOYED? This happens when you leave or have had it on auto, its nearly as annoying as the advisor telling me that we need to keep building the dam things, you only need a couple, four tops, I end up marking the design as obsolete to shut him up once Ive revised the design . Anyway, try hitting the stop button the one on the resupply ship orders panel before you issue any order, where I described where the deployed indicator is it will count down to undeploy then you can issue orders,
click the system you want it to move to then check for Caslon (dark blue) and / or Hydrogen (dark red)
press insert to move to system view and hold control press the right hand button over the gas giant that has the resources needed for fuel and select deploy.

Dont take this the wrong way but If your still stuck I will post a more in depth guide with images.
