Master of Magic
Civilization
Master of Orion II

Those were the first three that came to my mind, but I have many other favorites--mostly oldies like the Warlords series from SSG, Panzer General from SSI, History Line: 1914-1918 (known as The Great War: 1914 - 1918 in the U.S.) by BlueByte, X-COM: UFO Defense from MicroProse, and the WarCraft series from Blizzard. And that's just a start.

It's easier for me to list just two games: Birth of the Federation and Medieval Total War/Viking Invasion.

The sheer amount of time I've spent playing those two over the years (easily over a thousand hours each) makes both those games a no-brainer for my "all-time" list.

Honorable mentions (in no particular order):

Armada 2526 Supernova
Shogun Total War: Warlord Edition
(includes Mongol Invasion)
Distant Worlds: Legends
Lords of the Realm II
Klingon Academy
Command & Conquer: Red Alert
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
Imperium Galactica 2: Alliances
Neverwinter Nights: Diamond Edition
Galactic Civilizations 2: Ultimate Edition
(includes Dark Avatar and Twilight of the Arnor)

Taken in aggregate, these dozen PC titles (including BOTF & MTW/VI) probably account for ~80% of the time I've (thus far) spent in nearly 20 years of gaming.

Puresim Baseball
SPWAW
Campaign Series
TOAW
Civ III
COG
Medieval2: TW

Sorry, couldn't list only three. These are the PC games I have played most over the last 20 yrs or so.

Ed. - can't believe I left off PG! OK so my list of three is now 8!

I just realised that I've spent over 1500 hours playing Armored Brigade.

MTW/VI is on my top ten list. I must ask, have you tried the XL Mod? It is a must-have for players of the game. It adds more playable factions, plus the Early Era starts in 1080, not 1087. There is also a new map (not included in the mod, it's a separate download) which looks much better than the vanilla version.

In fact, I play the XL Mod almost exclusively. There's a few others I play around with from time to time, but when it comes to MTW/VI, XL remains my mod of choice.

1. Railroad Tycoon
2. WITP:AE
3. Tie: SimCity, Civilization, Battle of Britain (old flight sim from the early 90s), Call of Duty Black Ops (I know, I know...)

I wish I had more time to play Witp:AE, but right now work's been killing me. I can't get a game going with my schedule, so instead I've spent all my time playing airwaysim (online, so I can play it from anywhere while I travel for work). If my schedule opens up a bit, I'm going to get sucked back into WITP:AE, although the new SimCity looks promising.

Is there a way to get PureSim to work on a Win7 machine? I have not had any luck getting the free download to work.

I got the IL2 Battle of Britain, white cliffs, one. Looks great.
Crashes every 10 minutes mind, no matter what settings or system you try.
But looks great.

BOB2 still in the packet. Is that patch easy to install or are there 15 years of pre patches to hunt out ?

I think so. I bought it after the latest patch was released in the hope it might work after all the slamming it got for being buggier than a spider's lunchbox.
Its on steam and says latest version, but it doesn't say anywhere what that version is.

Its CTD failure after 10-15 mins.

Hmmm.. probably changes on a daily basis, but

1. Silent Hunter 3

2. STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl

3. Age of Rifles

I'm currently losing vast chunks of my life to Rocksmith, but I'm not sure that really qualifies as a proper game as such.

My three all-time favourite PC games - in no particular order

1) The one I'm playing most at the moment
2) The one I've just bought
3) The one that is soon to be released

Well my favorite 3 for the PC:

1. Distant Worlds (Series)
2. TIE Fighter
3. SimCity 4

If we go into consoles, then we have:

1. Elder Scrolls Series (I love the playtime you get with ES games, you get your money's worth)
2. Gears of War (Series)
3. Dragon Age (Series)

As you can see, I prefer 4X or simulator games for PC, but tend to like RPGs on console. There are plenty of other games that I play, but these are the ones that seem to get replayed the most for some reason (and yes I do occasionally replay the GoW solo campaigns).

My Personal Favorites

1) Advanced Tactics Gold (best random game generator of any IGOUGO game, bar none!)
2) Civilization Series (has changed a lot over the years but I still enjoy the random game experience)
3) Sudden Strike (had a blast with this game back in 2000/2001)

Honorable Mention

4) Empire Deluxe (oh the memories dating back to the early 90s)
5) Empires of Steel (Somewhat like Empire Deluxe. Fire it up on occasion.)
6) World War II Online (This came out June 2001 and nearly destroyed my marriage. Had to give it up and real time online play in general.)

These days 1 and 2 account for almost all of my gaming time. I still buy other wargames from time to time but most don't get played very long before I'm back to one of these two.

Guess I'm going to break the mold here. Only one of my top three games is a strategy game (not a wargame per se), and as much as I enjoy Matrix titles, they are far below the classics back from the day when game studios weren't afraid to get creative.

Here goes:

1. Dungeon Keeper
2. Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars
3. Myst
