Is this a game that started after 1.07 or shortly before?

You CV do not crash at all from what I am seeing.

Had to check. First 14 turns were with the previous build, then we patched up before T15.
It hasen't crashed per ce, but it has dropped 50-75% in a lot of units.

*edited since I cannot type my name properly *

Terje

Ok so refit paths working.

Seems so. All pools spiral downwards when the weather is good enough, and they rise when mud arrives, so seems to work fine here.

Turn 130 aka The Red Army That Tried

Overall
I doubt very much that Sean is happy with this turn. A lot of USSR attacks, but only two retreats. The second retreat does however result in the breech from last turn now being twice as wide, but PzA IV has arrived up there now, and immediately counterattacked. 21 USSR attacks resulted in 16 helds, 3 scouted and 2 retreats, or just below 10% success. Our one attack resulted in a retreat for a 100% result

Losses
Atleast a Dachs named Frankfürter as far as our reports indicate.

Partisans
4 remain on the map after we kill off 6.

German Pools
Manpower : 165.568
Vehicles : 239.604
Armaments : 457.418
Hiwi : 7.123

Additional pool numbers
Vehicles in units : 189.456 (189.615)
Vehicles in pool : 239.604 (169.786)
Vehicles in repais : 94.303

good news.

I do wonder if too many Soviet players try to be too surgical in this phase. Can understand the logic, manpower, trucks et al aren't unlimited, but it may also be that trying to overload a German defense (ie a wee bit of maskirovka) might pay dividends.

These turns seem a good example. Ok you know have a hole in your fort line that will be hard to repair, so your IV PZA is a wee bit less mobile as it needs to mind the gap, but it was easy enough for your to concentrate to seal off the offensive.

True, but the problem can be seen in the defense values of my stacks. The 3 units of PzA IV have the same defensive value as a single division in a lvl 3 fort. And, if he keeps attacking the same units over and over, he will eventually wear down my units.
That being said, I do agree, and Sean did indeed try to pierce my line in several positions, he just failed in all his attempts elsewhere. I also think he might have built too few artillery units, as I do not see a lot of them on the map. What I would have tried now as the USSR, would be to mass a lot of infantry, tanks, cav and mech in a concentrated area, push a hole in the front, and then drive deep through it. Worst case scenario, I will cut them off for one turn, but 3x3 USSR Rifle Corps with decent amount of artillery units will rout any stack I can field, so he would be in supply again the following turn, and I would be forced to pull back to the next line, as I would be unable to contain his thrust.
The one thing I do not understand however is why he is allowing a lot of my units to be out of enemy ZoC. The attrition battle is one he should be taking at any time. That makes no sense to me at all...

He should pick away, but until rivers freeze you can hold. Once the freeze he can easly hit you in allot of spots.

Might be smart on his part to build up trucks/supplies then hit you hard in Nov and then pound away the rest of the game.

If you can hold this line until Dec your in very good shape.

Turn 131 aka The Red Army That Could

Overall
And then, the line bursts in several locations. We temporarily seal of the leaks, but I do think I will have to pull back soon. Only problem with that is, that although I have several lines in place in the south, I do not have a lot of positions ready in the north, so a retreat now could indeed lead to a rout...
26 USSR attacks resulted in 20 helds and 6 retreats. 3 of the retreats were in the already broken part of our line, the remaining 3 were divided in two areas. One of the held results did however reduce the fort to lvl 1...
We only did 2 attacks, and scored 2 retreats.

Losses
USSR : 71.000 troops, 878 guns, 297 AFVs, ??? AC.
Axis : 31.000 troops, 402 guns, 58 AFVs, ?? AC.
I do not have the AC losses due to my own stupidity. I looked at and wrote down the other losses, then decided to to ground strike missions afterwards, which ofc resets the count. So, the AC losses were whatever theywere before the groundstrike, during which I lost some 120 AC to the USSRs 20ish.

Partisans
4 remain on the map after we kill off 5.

German Pools
Manpower : 169.380
Vehicles : 239.620
Armaments : 469.621
Hiwi : 2.341

Turn 132 aka The Sneaky Red Army

Overall
It seems Sean has been watching the "entering Stalingrad"-scene from "enemy at the gate" over and over. He sure ordered his troops to run headlong into my positions this turn. And then he was sneaky (as he landed two ski brigades at Ochakov which is two hexes SW of Nikolaev). And then there was a true WTF moment for me (see below). Anyway, the front was pierced a few more places, but about half of the retreat results he got this turn was follow up attacks on units already pushed back. Still, I really hope for a short winter!
No less than 59 USSR attacks this turn for a result of 42 helds, 1 scouted and 16 retreats. We too did quite a few attacks this turn, with a total of 16. The results were 1 held, 11 retreats, 3 routed and 1 surrender (the two ski brigades at Ochakov).

Losses
I only added up for the USSR, as the time needed to add all those numbers was quite long.
USSR : 127.000 troops, 2.256 guns, 692 AFVs, 432 AC.
Keep in mind that these are only battle numbers, so add some more for attrition. Not even the USSR can take such losses over a prolonged time. Only bad thing is that he can take it for longer than me...

USSR units destroyed
2 Ski Brigades.

Partisans
We only managed to kill 4 of the 12 on map.

German Pools
Manpower : 151.629
Vehicles : 234.058
Armaments : 429.048
Hiwi : 432
About the reduction in the pools, quite a few SUs had their TOE max% upped last turn. Want to see how well I can sustain that.

Cannot. There is no line to fall back to in the north yet. For now I am able to push them back, but for how long, I do nto know.

The problem is that there is no available line in the north yet. If I fall back immediately, I will give away too much territory too quickly I am afraid, and the rivers will be gone before spring....

Turn 133 aka The Solid Red Army

Overall
The USSR attacks in force once more, and score some retreats. They also try to flood my defences in the north. Well, my divisions still have teeth, so we fight back. The hope now is to be able to fight a delaying action long enough for the next line to be finished, AND for spring to arrive.
61 USSR attacks resulted in 35 helds, 1 scouted and 25 retreats, while our 18 attacks gave a result of 5 helds, 11 retreats, 1 rout and 1 shatter. I now need 2.5 : 1 + deliberate for any hope of a successful attack :(

Losses
USSR : 134.000 troops, 1.942 guns, 909 AFVs, 408 AC.
Axis : 70.000 troops, 1.089 guns, 233 AFVs, 155 AC.

Partisans
13 out of 16 are killed.

German Pools
Manpower : 140.968
Vehicles : 230.303
Armaments : 389.871

An early spring would be nice...

The impassible lines are passable during freeze and can have supply traced through them.

Yeah so it seems. Guess I need to buy physical versions of the games I buy. E-manuals are not for me. Only read impassable, and skipped by it
Only impassable terrain I've encountered irl has tended to be even more so during winter, aka impassable AND slippery

Turn 134 aka The Annoying Red Army

Overall
Another turn with a lot of attacks, the most severe setback came in the LG area, where our line broke. The north is now blown open. Delaying actions is what needs to be done now, and I am scrounging the front to see what I can send north.
49 USSR attacks resulted in 26 helds, 1 scouted and 22 retreats, while our 23 attacks gave a result of 6 helds, 14 retreats and 3 routs.

Losses
USSR : 124.000 troops, 1.796 guns, 661 AFVs, 425 AC.
Axis : 78.000 troops, 1.322 guns, 344 AFVs, 124 AC.
The exchange rate dropped in all categories save AC from last turn. That is NOT the way we want to see the numbers swing.

German units destroyed
The 607th SP Light Flak Battery and the 702nd SP Infantry Gun Company were wiped out this turn.

Partisans
7 out of 13 are killed.

German Pools
Manpower : 148.039
Vehicles : 222.382
Armaments : 363.262
Hiwi : 2

Main concern
Can I delay the USSR in the north until mud sets in?

Turn 135 aka The Backhand hmmmm thouch...

Overall
As expected, the 3 divisions that was partially surrounded last turn was completely surrounded this turn, and Sean decided to try to drive to the Baltic. He failed with the latter, and we delivered a tiny backhand blow by sealing off one of his Mech Corps. Main concern in the north atm is the low low low CV on a lot of my infantry (1->4 CV units). I need mud soon. Really soon!
Furthermore, the frontline is starting to look like it has been attacked by a pack of woodpeckers, with holes pretty much everywhere. So this turn I decided to withdraw from Zaporozhye, and we will leave Dnepropetrovsk next turn. This will shorten the frontline by a total of 6 hexes, and free up 8 divisions. Not a lot, but it should help us overall. I hope...
58 USSR attacks resulted in 26 helds, 1 scouted, 30 retreats and 1 rout. Our 23 counterattacks gave a result of 18 retreats and 5 routs.

Losses
USSR : 128.000 troops, 1.777 guns, 576 AFVs, 363 AC.
Axis : 78.000 troops, 1.489 guns, 306 AFVs, 77 AC.

Partisans
After killing 8, we are left with 4. Guess that we will not have to worry about these guys for too long...

Turn 136

Overall
The 3 surrounded divisions were killed off, but we managed to retake some terrain in the north. How long I will be able to keep pushing back the USSR advances, I do not know, but for now I am not too worried about a major USSR breakthrough up there. In the south we keep falling back slowly, and as always we keep praying for mud to arrive sooner rather than later.
42 USSR attacks ended with 22 helds, 19 retreats and 1 surrender. Our 23 attacks did not fare too well, and gave a result of 8 helds, 13 retreats and 2 routs.

Losses
Who knows?

Turn 137 aka Why did they stop

Overall
All of a sudden the USSR is no longer attacking in the north. This makes me nervous. What is Sean up to now? My recons indicates that his mechanized corps are being pulled back, and that makes me wonder if he intends to rail them elsewhere.
We keep pulling back slowly in the south, and then we go "*sigh* yikes, this is not good...Oh my" when we look at our pools (not the one below, but the ones on the screenie).
39 USSR attacks this turn, for a result of 21 helds, 16 retreats and 2 routs (seems the celebration during New Years Eve really did not work wonders for my units. CV is dropping rapidly now). Our 15 attacks ended with 1 held, 12 retreats and 2 routs.

Losses
USSR : 109.000 troops, 1.580 guns, 131 AFVs, 436 AC.
Axis : 75.000 troops, 1.387 guns, 364 AFVs, 129 AC.

German units destroyed
The 703rd SP Infantry Gun Company is wiped out.

German units disbanded
2 Fort Zones.

I'm sure that hitting a T-34 with a 50mm mortar would do a lot of damage ..

If, that is, you physically hit the T-34 with the mortar launcher, at least you might scratch the paintwork

Looks like you've still got a decent amount of space to operate in. Do you get some powerful units as reinforcements? If so, that might at least give you the chance to cull the Soviet truck pool by bouncing over-extended tanks etc?

Terje,

You still have a lot of space to trade for time and are doing well enough, all things considered. I'm sure you'll be building that Great Redoubt in Germany proper. He still has a lot of nasty terrain to get through and I'm thinking you will hold him off. A draw, I think, and considering your '41, not a bad outcome at all. Hang in there!

Looks like you've still got a decent amount of space to operate in. Do you get some powerful units as reinforcements? If so, that might at least give you the chance to cull the Soviet truck pool by bouncing over-extended tanks etc?

Hehe, well, then I want my 6k mortars placed in one division. Should be able to carpetbomb anything moving in its direction

A draw is doable I think, but I think I need to hold him more or less where I am until mud. If I do that, I doubt he will get to Berlin. And I learnt a thing or two in our games, so I do not intend to allow Rumania to be flipped as easily this time
