This level of detail about the enemy OOB is not very sporting...

Neither is playing against the Allied war machine. Esp. Scen 1 with economic brakes applied.

What is "the 46 clock"?

Sorry witpqs - just the 46 mile walk distance to the next hex.

Sometimes you can clear this bug by setting a different hex as the destination and then re-targeting the desired hex.

Tried that but there is only one destination I'm allowed to set, Not sure if it is a bug or the stacking mod we're using.

West Virginia disappeared into the blue yonder and made me think of the song ... maybe Fionn took her home ;-)

Well the onslaught has begun near Moulmein. I think I'm in deep do-do actually. It all depends how long it takes me to move the troops from Darwin into place as well as some arty units from China which were under Southern command. I'm also counting down the days until I can release a new Div from Manchuria.

50 P.P's/d is too small with all the changes that MichealM has made. Also, paying for too many changes to aircraft and TF skippers was maybe a mistake on my part. I've also bought back a fair amount of lcu's lately from my aborted Aleutian foray and recently Burma. Thing I can't understand is if I buy them back why they revert back to home command. Seems like double dipping.

On the Sthern coast of China I get to see a large SS TF. I guess the time to ramp up my ASW is upon me.

Northern Australia already has some shipping spotted at Darwin.

A small deliberate attack Nth of Moulmein is repelled. I'm hoping that I can buy time here until I get some more troops into the fray.

In the Pacific, I give up chasing West Virginia and head back for replenishment. Fionn has seen my CV's now and he'll be more cautious building up for an amphib attack. I'm planning a bit of a counter though.

I think you're doing well here. He won't break through that blockade easily, and hopefully you can add another 300-400 AV at Moulmein. If you take the ratio to 1:2 you'll likely hold forever. He took some big losses crossing there and should be down near 2100 AV now. They won't heal quickly out there in the wilds, and certainly won't be effective for a week or more. The difficulty for the Allies is that he's basically put a large army into an unmaneuverable position. So if you stall that he has to turn and go back unless he takes the time to open another hex side.

It is a strain. I am still low on PPs in 8/44. The bought back unit reverting to general defense is an issue and usually if you catch them right away it's not too expensive, but some units are up to 150 PPs to buy again. I guess the initial cost is very low.

One dev a while back mentioned that they really didn't get the PP system quite finished and if he could advise a more realistic example it would include buying units cheaper using air HQ and other sneaky ways. This would in my opinion open up too much abuse and potential for inequality between sides. I don't do this and it is kind of interesting to have these restrictions since there really isn't any other political consideration in game. Even though it kills me sometimes to have units sitting doing nothing when there is an emergency somewhere, I'm sure some Japanese leaders felt the same about the Kwantung Army and some of the Home Defense forces during the war.

That's nice! You were a bit lucky there with Kaga and Akagi. Were those 500lb bombs at extended range? Seems like that would usually do a bit more damage. I'd say you bagged 4 CVEs, and Maryland can't be doing too well after 4 TT.

All in all that should set him back farther still on the timeline for anything in the Pacific. Will you pursue for a shot at Wasp and other cripples?

I believe they were 1000lb but hit belt armor ;-)

I did try to get another shot, but ended up with egg on my face as you will see.

Is your plan to completely ignore your economic problems until you can use total collapse as an excuse to quit the game early? Why are you still moving your carriers and battleships when you know that fuel is short?

Sir -

I must say, without heat or offense, that your suggestion that Damien would use such a stratagem as an excuse to bow out of a campaign game is unwarranted and is not true.

As stated in Damien's opening post, this particular modification (on it's first campaign testing) severely changes various aspects of the Japanese economy. I am not privy to the specifics, but strongly suspect that it makes Japanese economic planning and execution a far greater challenge.

Damien and Floyd have contributed tremendously to AE's playability with their extraordinarily detailed and useful Tracker utility.

Damien has always been a man of integrity; I am honored by the generous patience he has shown when answering my questions or helping with a concept that I did not understand. I have nothing but the greatest respect and admiration for both of these men.

I am very saddened by the demise of this AAR; Fionn is a remarkably talented and competent player. It was a treat to watch Damien and Fionn in action; this is a loss for all of us on this forum.

Respectfully Submitted -

Mac
