So.... I got attacked by pirates. Big surprise right?

But I was already paying them protection money Is this just pirates being lying SOBs, or is it some "small print" in the "Protection Arrangement" I don't know about?

Attachment shows arrangement is in effect and "Grievous Inquisitor" from the news message is from the "Dirty Rock Army"

It is possible for pirates to break protection agreements, just like empires can sometimes attack when they are not at war - though it's not common. Usually they will abide by them or cancel them if they want to attack you.

If this happens as more than a rare occurrence, please upload a save file for us.

Ok, so probably just pirates being pirates then

But I did notice when agreeing to the same deal again, that the "contract" said protection for 6 months.
I entered the previous one around 2100.03.25 and the attack happened around 2100.10.20, might it have expired with out the anyone telling me?
But the diplomacy window still said I was protected? And I had no way to beg for my life.

Small question on in the same wain while I have you here, when asking for protection, will the pirates sometimes just say no?

They'll almost always accept a protection offer (the price can go way up based on the situation though), but they may not keep it for long if they'd really rather raid you. Typically they'll tell you about that though.

So you can generally buy off a pirate fleet that's about to hit your homeworld, but that will be by far the most expensive time to buy them off.

As a pirate I accepted a protect mission and left some ships in orbit around the planet. Later I get a message that the colony has been attack by another pirate group and I have lost my fee.
Why didn't the ships in orbit attack the incoming pirates??
Am I missing something in regard to how I am suppose to protect the colony??

They should have attacked the other pirates - unless you had a truce with the other pirate faction and their first hostile action was to drop some assault pods on the planet.

Regards,

- Erik

Possible truce was in effect. I'll pay more attention next time.
