I'm still learning on the Coral Sea senerio, a couple of more questions.

I am trying to get my cruisers and DD's in Brisbane to do a fast transport to either Gili or Buna, and then stay there to help against an invaision force.
I set the taskforce to human control, do not retire, but no matter how many times I do this, the taskforce never reaches, it turns around and heads back ro Brisbane, I catch it, turn it around for Gili again, then two tearns later it is heading back to Brisbane.

For the sake of argument, let's say I'm willing to sacrafice these four ships just to get the troops there, how can I do this, nothing will keep those ships on course.

If I want to give the order that under no circumstances are these ships to turn back, can that be done? because I'm not able so far.

On another note, what is the goal of the Coral sea senerio, to destroy the Japanes carriers, or hang on to Port Moresby? Should I even bother with Guadalcanal, no matter all the little moves I can make to get token strength there, the Japanese can obliterate it the carrier task force moves in.

Thanks for all the help.

Fast Transport missions by their very nature won't hang around. You can set their home port to where you are going. They should stay there, but won't unload automatically- you will have to tell them the next turn. Once they are unloaded, change their mission to surface combat.

Hope this helps

First, I've used Mission #1 to learn the mechanics of ship movement, air ops, etc., I don't worry about PM as naval air combat and TF movement seem to be the idea in #1. But I did take the surface combat force out of Brisbane and loaded the AA unit there and set it on it's way to GG. I made GG the TF's home port. The TF made it there, was spotted by a single Mavis and was promptly "sacrificed" as you put it :) (although one *can* learn the power of an air strike against a surface force this way....)

Have fun!

I'm not worthy, I never thought of making their home port the same as the destination port.

Thanks again.

Do the American carriers ever get the best of it in Coral Sea?
I have got the jump on them everytime, and had the first shot, but always seem to take the worst of it.

I've never had success CV vs CV (opnly played #1 about 4 times all the way through), but did manage to pump two fish into the side of the Shoho with my widdle submarine and was rewarded with reports of "ammunition storage hit" and "fuel storage hit"... not that one can trust reports with FOW on, but torpedos into enemy carriers is always a good thing...a very good thing :)

(btw the sub did escape)

At the beginning of a Scenario #17 PBEM game, had a carrier vs carrier engagement on 10 May (TFs were 3-4 hexes apart). Sank both IJN CVs without damage to my own.

Only time I have ever seen it. It was under the original version of UV, and the game is still in progress.
