ORIGINAL: Doggie3 Hi Cowboy Ronin, Hexhead - Thanks for the very quick replies. I think I understand now that it is linked to the upgrades. I'll give an example of what I thought was possible and how I now understand it to work - I have 1st PG/27th PS in the USA set up a training group. Pilots needing training have been moved in, any decent ones are out. They fly P-38E's. 15th PG/45th PS is a front line unit in Pearl Harbour, they've got some of the best pilots I have but they fly P-36A Mohawks. I thought it was possible someway to move the aircraft between the groups - put the P-38's into Pearl and move the P-36's to be trainers. I understand now that it doesn't work that way - I change aircraft via the Upgrade button, and when I click to upgrade the 15th PG they upgrade to P-40E, except there is a (0) beside the P-40E because the factories haven't produced enough for the pool yet, or I can withdraw/disband a group and its planes will go into the pool, to be used by another group. If I have PDU on, then I will get more than just the one aircraft type to Upgrade to. Have I got it right? I've found the whole initial pilot training set-up to be quite an interesting exercise, and I have hundreds of pilots moving around the theatres over the next week. Cheers To clarify on the upgrade part, in your example, if PDU is ON, then you will have the option to change the 1st/27th PG unit to 'upgrade' to the P-36A, instead of the P-40E. After the squadron upgrades, those P-38s will flow into the pool, and you can then upgrade your 15th/45th unit to the P-38s. *Note, because the 1st/27th PG is a Restricted squadron, and set to withdraw at a certain date (see the upper left side of the group screen), you can only upgrade once you have the full complement (25 P-36As) in the pool. For non-withdrawing groups, you can upgrade as long as you have at least one in the pool. As a practical matter, I usually disband a group or two of P-36s (I think there are some unrestricted groups in SF at the start), so their P36s go into the pool and provide the 'starting capital' of old aircraft, to then start the cascade of upgrades. Those squadrons you disband will then return (empty) in a few months and you can fill them with new production. You can do similar things with the VMFs that you get in the first couple days that have F4F-3s, upgrade them to the F2A3s to free up F4F-3s for your carriers.
