Does anyone know if there is a way you can force construction SUs attached to a German army group or army to help construct fortifications instead of repairing rails?

Perhaps attaching it directly to the division / FZ constructing the fort?

You cannot attach construction units to divisions, only the FZ. I could do it with FZs, but it would be expensive in APs. The HQ is supposed to help units in its chain of command if the leader passes an admin check. However, after several tests, I am not certain it actually works, especially when the unit in question has no MPs (which should not affect the SUs helping it fortify).

Pioneer/sapper units have good construction values and they can be attached to combat units. Other than that, there is no way to force construction SUs attached to HQs to focus on forts. It's all automated and not documented very well (this is mentioned in the manual, but we don't know if it actually works).

I am fine with them repairing rails but as long as they are atached directly to corps they do not do it.
Even at army level it is touch and go, so i put all finish construction units (3) under Finish high comand to actualy have the track repaired .

Remember they operate in command range of the HQ they are attached to, so it's only 5 hexes for Corps HQs. I also read somewhere (but it may be a rumor, as I can't confirm it in the manual), that said HQ must be stationary for the entire turn to send it's construction units do to their job, and lower level HQs tend to move more often that higher ones.

I wonder if it is posible to fill up a empty corps HQ with construction units and use it as a
ad hoc FDB .

Gabriel - the answer is yes.

However the computer will do the repair allocation for you - no more than one hex per turn per rail line.

I did some testing last night and came up with some intresting results :

the Hq unit does not need to be stationary for the entire turn to send his units on the job.

18th and 16th army were packed each with 12 construction batalions from OKH.

They were 15 hexes from the railheads so repair batalions shoud have worked .

They did not. So i reloaded the turn and moved them to 5 hexes from the railhead.
and they worked

Not sure if this is good or bad thing yet .
one hand it gives me control over what hexes would be repaired but on the other hand
the 15 hex range is not working .

In 41 I use OKH (locked) to send out hordes of construction units to speed-up rail repair. Moved to Minsk, OKH's contruction units should reach almost every rail location until you are advancing past Moscow/Rostov.
I rarely got corps HQ to send out contruction units to help repairing rail so tested-out this workaround. Usually left one construction unit in corps-hq at the frontline to assist units there.

That is just it , due to huge command range, OKH and to some degree army groups keep this labour force way back in the rear or spread all over the map.

As for corps HQ , I want them out of there fast , because with a construction value less than a german regiment , they are simply useless.

I did this attaching from corps to army, then lock army support, for a while, but it does not work. One, two turns later some of the pioneers were gone with the wind.
This has been issue two years ago. Nothing has changed. German Pioneers cant be kept at army level, at least not reliable. That would be a fine countermeasure against partisans but it is not to be.
