I had just finished my second game of SUDG, my first endeavor into a 150 star galaxy, when I noticed something very strange with my homeworld. The mighty Kimshaars definitely brought enough starships when they came to attack my one and only world. They made rather quick work of my 4 frigates and 3 cruisers and blew up my planet and all I managed to kill was one cruiser. After that I was going back into that last save befoer the end to check out some video problem I've had not being able to see every line of a ship's and world's builds. As I had the cursor over the sol planet I noticed something strange in the world builds. It showed I had 2 transwarp drives on sol, but they were grayed out.:eek:

Now I had started the game building my freighter routes manually and doing the other world builds manually. Then I tried the frieghter automation and I noticed the world govenor went to town building stuff on earth. I had built a few things, but only filled about half of the build slots. I built generators and computers and labs and research facilites and replicators and nano factores but never any drives (I hadn't gotten past fusion drives before I turned the automation on). It seems like the world govenor thought my planet was spaceship sol.;)

Dang, too bad those transwarp drives didn't work on sol as I sure would have liked to blast off from the sol star system and relocated elsewheres before those big, bad Kimshaars showed up.:p

Now I did have some "instant best drives" artifacts stored on earth and had set them to automatic use. I'm wondering if somehow the world govenor used the instant best drive artifacts incorrectly on the planet. I still saw that I had some of these left on sol so I'm not sure if that happened either. I know I saw it use the "instant population" artifacts from time to time but I saw the message each time one was used.

I'll keep close tabs on my world govenor next game to see if he builds more superfluous drives on planets. I'll also make sure I don't build any.:D

funny thing--I've seen you mention this 150 star galaxy game you've been playing. my version allows me to play 50/75/100 star games....

can you confirm the 150 star setting? if so, what version are you running? I've got the latest patch, maybe that makes a difference?

draoniv;

FYI, my game also has the option of 150 worlds. I have Version 2 which came already pre-loaded on my CD.

I have the version 2.0 patch, with the 1.0 CD. Not sure why my game would be behaving differently, unless the 2.0 patch doesn't include the 1.1 and 1.2 patches (which would be, ahhh, pretty silly to do).

Help! :)

dragoniv,
It's sad you're not able to get your patched version of 2.0 to show the 150 star option. It sure makes the game a lot more fun. If I were you I'd start another thread stating this problem clearly. Maybe the patch just didn't work correctly or something but alerting Andrew to your plight might get some useful help in resolving your dilemma.

I think I read on a different post for a different patch problem that they had to install patch 1.1 and then the 2.0 patch to get everything fixed.
