In the past games there were really only two sides, Axis & Allies. It would be really cool if there could be three in SC3. Ever since starting on the genre with Clash of Steel, I've always wanted to be able to throw my Soviets against my Allies (or vice versa) once the Germans go down.

Since we can now apparently hand over control of a country to the AI, you could, at the 'end' of the game hand over the side you wanted to fight to the AI and then declare war on them to get a homemade 'Red Star/White Star' style game.

I imagine it would also be fun to have a three player email game where you're not just angling to beat the Germans but set yourself up in a good position to hold off your former ally.

I could see this feature being an unsupported 'easter egg' sort of feature, where you have to manually hand off the country and declare war, or something built in where if one side or the other has too many Victory Locations (or something) you're given the option of starting a Soviet/Allied fight.

Similarly, in support of this, it would be really nice if instead of 'hard' ending the game at the scenario limit you could push 'one more turn' (like Civilization) and keep playing, either because you haven't quite won the war or because you want to start a Soviet/Allied 'post' war brawl. You could put a disclaimer that continuing to play past the end date is unsupported, but I had at least a couple games of SC2 where I wanted to keep going but couldn't.

Britain and France all most went to war with the Soviet Union when it invaded Finland. The French wanted to send an Allied expeditionary force to fight along side the Finnish forces. And In the Caucasus British planes were violating Soviet airspace in a planed air raid against oil installation at Batu. It was only because of the Finland request for an armistice and the mild Soviet terms that a war was prevented from happening between Allies and the Soviet Union. Otherwise there probably would have been a three way World War. Which would had been very interesting if it had happen.

So... yeah... I would like to see something like this added to the game.

A pre-combat political positioning and research era ala WiF's "Days of Decisions" would be a nice optional feature as well as having multiple player(PBEM) possibilities.

I have wondered about a third side/team also, so I understand Axis, Allies and Comintern idea. In a way, with SC 2 we experimented with this. In the WW1 games we published the Russian Civil War that had the Makhnovists change from White aligned to Red aligned. So, I can see the utility in major powers changing sides. While the axiom, the enemy of my enemy is my friend, is valid in the real world, in SC3 we may come up with 3 separate and mutually antagonistic tribes in one game, the sky is the limit –right?

Your ‘hard ending’ thought is also interesting, and I’d like to share how Bill handled it in WW1; he allowed the player to make a decision that would extend the game; in essence Bill offered a variety of victory conditions that set the game on a longer track.

I wish we could have gotten to the point (and maybe in SC3 we will) where WW2 does not end, but the games changes form Axis vs. Allies to Democracy vs. Communism. This might be interesting to some.

i prefer even up to 10 possible sides, e.g. for each major country, but 4 sides as a minimum. grigsby's waw have 5 sides (uk/usa, soviet union, china, germany, japan).
