We'll have to dig up some dirt on her then. Give Flanigan, Branigan, and Iskovich a call. They're investigators for the firm of Dewey, Fleecem, and Howe.

I think DFH were taken over by Skweezum, Stikem, Grabbit & Runn last year.

I think we can safely say the experiment is now at an end.

That's a pretty big assumption when they said check again next week. Sure it COULD be over but if it is over there's no reason for them not to say so.

An interesting point of view with regards to flash sales from the head of marketing at GOG.

It's a good point, but the essential difference is the time after release. The 'deals of the week' here have not been on any recent releases, and nobody suggested they should be. While somebody might wait a few months for a steep drop in price, nobody is likely to wait years for a title they actively want. Some people will buy who didn't before, not because they waited but because you hit their price point to reconsider - which is the whole point of the sale, after all.

What's with people?

They rant about sales as if it was a right.

Damn you Slitherine, I deserve to pay less than what you want to sell the game for. I want it sold for half price because you made it last year, and I want another 25% off because it's summer, and I want a 5 dollar coupon because it's my birthday, and I want it hand delivered to my door because I like getting presents in the mail, and I want Ian to help cut the grass when he's here because his mom was saying he was always a nice lad when he was a boy.

Do you people actually listen to your demands?

Ummm, no.

But I'd love to see a deep discount on a product released 7, 8, 10 years ago. A 16 Gig iPod Touch cost $400+ 5 years ago. Now the 5th Generation ones are selling for $200 because technology has moved on. I'd consider it ludicrous if you expected me to pay $400 for today's version of the Touch. Now if you told me I needed to pay $400 for a 1st Generation Touch from 5 years ago I'd think you were blooming insane. So why should we consider it reasonable for Matrix to offer the same thing for achingly dated games?

Technology moves forward, but, a work of art remains a work of art regardless of how long ago it was created.

I am not entirely sure a game made 5 years ago should have a shelf life just because the machine it ran on 5 years ago has been left in the dust by newer spiffy machines.

Now, if they made game X 5 years ago, and then redid game X 5 years later with all sorts of bells and whistles, it might be a leap to ask full price for the 5 year old version.

I am ok paying full price for Panzer Corps for instance, even 2 years later. But you can forget selling me full price Panzer General which is where it came from.

I'd love to pay 100 bucks for a 2014 Steel Panthers, at which point my desire to buy old style Steel Panthers original full price is going to also be not gonna happen. I admit, it seems to suck paying full price for The General's edition, but keep in mind, you are paying for 4 Mega Campaigns, not the base game. And until someone makes me a replacement for the 4 Mega Campaigns.......

Oh I know and I wasn't using it to say SALES ARE BAD... just that consistant flash sales undermine the value of the gaming industry as a whole and can be a legitimate threat to developers especally of the indie variety. I agree there's no reason a 5 year old game can't have it's price lowered, heck GOG makes its living as the second most popular digital distribution site by selling old games and much less than their original price but I think the point of not having sales all the time and definately not so soon is a valid point that we rarely hear expressed during the steam generation.

Wow. I'm not buying a wargame, I'm buying a work of art? You just blew my mind, man.

In that case, I demand to see price rises on all Matrix products older than 5 years. Immediately.
