My first analysis of turn 30 Soviet aircraft losses:

Larry's posted total by individual type shows 258 vs. the Axis "Air Briefing" shown for turn 30 indicates "274 enemy aircraft have been destroyed this turn"

That's close enough for government work.

Hey you guys.........John Fogger and his wife are both sick and I'd appreciate it if you guys
would send some good vibrations their way. I expect John to be back at the gaming table
sometime tomorrow. I'm hoping you see.

Hi larry
I have just got back from the hospital. the doctors have said that Allison should be able to come home next week.I am about 50% of the way into the turn. Hope to finish it later tonight or tomorrow. I have forward a copy of my "do not send files" to Petey.

Jesus, it's a lot worse than I thought. I'm glad you feel better and hope that Allison gets to come home and gets well as well. I phrased
that lousily but you know what I mean.

No hurry big guy. Do what you have to do in real life and I'll be here when you get back.

I think that's a wonderful idea. Gives Petey a better picture of what's really going on. I'll supply a copy of my end turns as well if
anybody wants them. I'm saving just about everything that TOAW produces so far.

And at the start of T31 I was greeted by this new string: The Mud turns have started. I'll bet John is elated.

Um.......the front lines haven't changed to write home about so T31's front lines are basically the same as list time we did this.

I am having a problem with hex 141209. Nothing will move through the hex unless I place an eng. unit on it. The Hex does have a bridge it but it has been repaired. I have tested it by loading a saved turn (previous turn) and blowing it. has anybody got any ideas. (apart from leaving the eng unit there )

And then at the beginning of T32 I'm presented w/ this screen. Mud prevents combat. Heavy rain prevents combat. Whoa.

It appears that all combat operations haven't been halted after all. The game engine let me schedule an attack. I have no doubt that it
would have been executed during the combat(s) phase. So there's an event flag that didn't get triggered or something. Something else
to be fixed w/ this scenario I guess.

EDIT: I said all the above because of my years-ago experience w/ FITE and not Ron's Mod. It just occurs to me that one of the changes
to Ron's Mod might be to allow combat during the mud phase. I'll have to take a look through the change-log or something to confirm so
this might not be a bug after all. I guess I need an expert's opinion.

Here's how the air war is going. I suspect that John is holding back some of his forces as a reserve to be used in the spring. No proof,
just a "Sah Spish Shun".

Hi larry
Yes Ron did allow this mod to undertake attacks during the mud turns. But if you do attack it will cost you.

I was going to use the 11th Guards Army to do the last ditch defense of Moscow but it appears that they will probably have a different
mission. Right now they serve as a strategic reserve but I'm thinking that maybe I should use them to open a hole in the German lines
somewhere. But if I spend their strength now I won't have them as a strategic reserve any more. Decisions, decisions.

I just got a file from John Fogger and it's turn 34. The front line isn't moving at all and it's like WWI trench warfare. The air war is still
going strong however and this is the approx. losses:

I'm going through the OOB moving units and setting up attacks and it just dawned on me to look at the proficiency of one of the typical
attacking units and I was not surprised to see that it's lower than the German proficiency by a really significant margin. No wonder I get
more losses in my attacks than he does. I know that I have to attack the Germans to wear them down but it just seems like such a
tragedy in terms of the numbers of losses of real men. Glad I didn't have to take part in that.

I was just now mousing over some of the Axis units and I came upon this Romanian Infantry Division that's cherry red in health. That
tends to lend me the impression that makes me suspecious that maybe the Axis units are a bit tired and at the end of their supply lines.

I just noticed just now that the RR engineers have regular engineers in the OOB and a minor ferry capability. I'm thinking I could use
the RR engineers to help my INF pass over a frozen river just like regular engineers.

This particular squadron has been on-line for a couple of turns now and I notice that it's still leaf green. I'm thinking I'm not pushing this
squadron hard enough. I've put it on minimum losses because it's proficiency was less than 50% but I'm thinking I ought to either move
it closer to the action, or put it on limited losses, or both. I'm going to do both.

So um.....the last I heard from John was his wife was in the hospital and
that was a couple of weeks ago and I sent an email saying that if he
needed to quit the game I would understand and is that wnat's happened
and I haven't gotten a reply yet and it's been quite a while so you guys
now know as much as I do about this game.

EDIT: I got a reply from Johh:

Hi larry,
I am sending this email from work so I am unable to attach anything to it. My home internet has been down since last thursday. Hopefully Optus is coming this afternoon to fix it. I am around until turn 406. I will hopefully send the turn tonight.
cheers

Okie dokie......I've received John's moves and I've watched the replay and here's the northern part of the front lines in T35.
We're locked in a WWI type of grinding blood storm and I'm advancing some Guards Infantry to try to break through John's
front lines but I'm pretty sure he's hip to what's going on and he's already started moving some units to that area so it doesn't
look like it's going to be possible to break through anytime soon. D'oh.

This view of the front lines is a little bit south of the image above and includes the Smolensk area. You can see the long line of units
moving toward the west and John's units are invisible but they are moving to the same spot my units are moving to.
