So I'm playing the 1941 campaign as the Germans against the AI and it is the end of the campaigning season for 1943. I have reached over 12 million Soviet casualties but their casualties have been slowly decreasing since reaching that number

I have talked about this in length and people don't seem to understand its importance.

.5 % Russians return each turn, so if you not killing enough Russians per turn the "pool" decreases.

GHC return at 1%.

Basically "casualties can be divided into the dead, the captured, the crippled, the badly wounded and the slightly wounded.

Dead and POW are straightforward. Now as I understand it from past posts,

1.the slightly wounded don't show up in the disabled number but they are subtracted from the formation; they then return to duty quickly (IRL they would be treated at forward aid stations and then returned to their units)

2. the badly wounded are removed from their units and counted as "disabled" but then return to duty slowly; see Pelton's numbers above. IRL they are removed to rear area hospitals and (some) eventually return to duty but via the replacement system not returned to their units

3. The crippled are removed from their units and counted as "disabled" but never return to duty, as in real life.

Overall, I think this is a good casualty model (just my opinion) although it is hard to argue with the designed return rate since they do not show all of the casualties in the disabled number (see #1 above). Without knowing that number its impossible to argue with Joel that the return number is too high or too low (but I did try a year or so ago )
