I'm trying to make my own ship designs but i have problems understanding the details of the components.
First questions:

1)Fuel Capacity: It's a number. How does that translate in distance that can be traveled before needing refuel?
2)Is Excess Energy Output wasted? Or does having Excess Energy Output make my ship use less fuel?
3)This might be the same thing as question 2) but, Thrusters don't use fuel right? They use energy created by the Reactor. So... does the reactor use fuel is the thrusters aren't using energy?
4)When does the ship use the different speed levels? Impulse, cruise, sprint.

Hmm.. I see a Movement.... "graph"?
Let me see if I got this straight.
It has a doted line which is static energy usage. That means Energy usage while ship is not moving.
There is another line for the different speed levels. Let's say for example Cruise has Energy usage 2. Does that mean that the ship energy usage at Cruise speed is <static energy usage> + 2?
Am I getting it right?

@Canute
Thanks mate, but that Thread hasn't answered any of my questions. It just says what i already know. Fuel capacity determines distance traveled before refuel.. DUUUh. But.. HOW DO YOU CALCULATE THAT DISTANCE? How many sectors does that mean?
But I think I've figured it out myself.
I see there: RANGE: 77% system diameter. So... with current fuel storage.. I can travel 77% of a system's diameter before needing refuel. Thanks mSterian. :)

Puhhh, i didn't looked into this yet, just add a few extra fuel cells, special at warships, weapons use Energy too.

But i think:
While at movement, Energy Collectors don't collect energy.
Static + hyperspeed energy use = Energy used
Energy use x Reactor fuel effecity = Fuel used.
These fuel is needed to fly the distance listet at max. hyperspeed (in pixel or whatever).
But i don't know how big are a sector in pixel.

But since you discover it by yourself you are a clever one ! :-)) Have fun at the game and don't do to much math !

Haha. I really hoped I didn't offend you Canute. And it seems I didn't. Good man.
I'm just frustrated about all the math I need to go through with so many equations (unknown variables).

For now I'm leaving hyperspace out of this, as I'm playing prewarp and am trying to optimize my build as much as possible and adapting my builds as needed.
I was trying to figure out if energy collectors would help me add more thrusters. Are you saying they're bugged?

no, not bugged, just working as intended "only working while stationary" it says in the info-text. So it is good for ships just hanging there waiting for someone to show up, so the static usage won´t drain your fuel.
