If I am understanding this correctly... such a diplomat would reduce the stats of a chosen empires leaders, spies, and maybe a general or two, right?

And while on the topic of demoralizing, what is the 'range'? Would a demoralizing scientist on a research station around a planet affect a colony governer there? How about a fleet admiral refueling at a space port where one is sitting?

Thanks.

My understanding is, they will impact all other characters in the same location or fleet. I doubt the fleet refueling at a location would be effected.

I dismiss them as soon as I see they have this trait.

It is a difficult one to test unless someone sends you one of those ambassadors, but it makes sense ambassadors will affect the victim empire you send him to. So naturally I send them to empires I don't like and laugh. What I do know is that the effect is very slow so even if an admiral would affect a planet while docked to refuel the change would be so minute as to not matter anyway.

It seems to me that a scientist will affect any character at the planet the station is orbiting along with anyone at other orbiting stations. This is similar to admirals and generals affecting each other within a fleet when they aren't actually on the same ship (Generals usually being on the troop transport rather than command ship).

The only tricky one for me is spies. Unless they are performing counter espionage they tend to be listed at location: unknown. That suggests to me that they won't affect the target empire as they don't have a specific location. Worse still they may be affecting your own characters even while they are away! I don't know the truth of the mater but I play it safe and dismiss them. Usually I'll dismiss any non-ambassador with that trait, but there have been exceptions (if they are otherwise good, I need a character in that role and I can minimise their effect).

Hey, you got this all wrong hahaha.
I JUST discovered.
That trait is actually HELPFUL to you.

If you haven't noticed, ambassadors are sent to another empire's capital
SO... it actually decreases the skill of anther empire's character's skills that are at their capital. Which is usually the place every empire keeps their best characters.

If I have an otherwise effective spy that is demoralizing, I move them to the space port above my home planet when they are not in use (or while they are engaged in counter-espionage); otherwise, like Anthropoid, I dismiss them.

Sounds like a strategic use of diplomats would be in order then.

You would want to send an 'inspiring presence' diplomat to the homeworld of a trusted ally. Conversely, you'd want to send a demoralizing diplomat to the homeworld of an empire you despise.

I always suspected it worked this way, and assigned them accordingly. I don't dismiss characters because of a bad trait, rather preferring to play the hand I'm dealt.
