I don't know if this is a bug in the AI, intended behavior, or just never thought of, but I'll put it in tech support and you can move it to another section if it's not a bug/tech issue.

I've played with the AAW Tutorial Scenario. Created a SEAD mission and sent some A-7s to a reference point. They detect enemy radars and the AI moves to attack. They expend both of their ARMs and instead of going Winchester RTB they continue to fly toward the radar emitters and promptly get shot down. I would hope the AI would recognize the two ARMs are the SEAD mission, and even though the A-7s still have ordinance (Sidewinders) they aren't applicable to the SEAD mission. I take this as the AI interprets Winchester as literally having no offensive munitions at all, not no munitions applicable to to the mission type.

I just though of something...maybe this is my error in some way. Maybe I'm not checking/unchecking some box correctly or not creating the mission correctly. Maybe someone could instruct me if this is my error.

I'm not familiar with the A7 SEAD loadout but if this includes bombs (various types) as well as ARMs, then if there are bombs remaining the A7 isn't 'Winchester' according to the current SEAD doctrine. If an aircraft has only ARMs, then it should RTB Winchester once those ARMs have been fired.

You've hit it on the head, they DO have bombs.

However the maximum range for those bombs is something like 600m and the A7's tend to stay up in the 2000m alt. I haven't played around too much with the mission editor yet but maybe there is an option to set a specific altitude range for a given mission?

Yeah, I see the bomb stores in the loadout. I think it's not a bug and a wish-list/suggestion issue. It just seems to defeat the entire purpose of the mission editor and AI to have to remember to kill the mission and manually order the A-7s back to base after they fire their ARMs or they'll make a suicide run with iron bombs. I like the suggestion of many more options in the mission editor to let the user tailor the mission. Then the AI launches and follows orders. The player can then focus on other parts of the battle.

It would be useful in the mission editor to be able to select specific ammunition to trigger the RTB - Winchester event. For the A-7s, they should Winchester when the ARMs are depleted. For the Tomcats, when their missiles are gone.

The BUG in the SEAD mission appears to be that the A-7s won't change altitude to use their bombs. I had mine zipping around the engagement zone at 20k feet looking like they were making bombing runs, but never dropping anything because they were not below 610 feet. (And then they got shot down....)

I agree weapon specific RTB would be handy and there has been some discussion about this already. For example, the player may want fighter aircraft to RTB when all long/medium range A2A missiles have been fired although there are short range missiles remaining.

The altitude 'bug' during F1 Auto attacks has also been raised previously. In the meantime until this is addressed, manual altitude control is recommended.

The winchester calculation is based on the loadout role in the database. You can turn Winchester logic on and off in the ROE's.
